Soft music echoes in the hall as the guests watch attentively, their focus solely on the couple standing at the altar. Damien fixes his tie, trying to keep his cool. He just wants to get this over with.
“Does anyone object to this wedding?” The priest finally asks, and Damien lets out a relieved sigh.
“I object!”
All eyes turn to the hall's entrance, wide in disbelief.
Damien's mouth opens and closes, trying to speak, but nothing comes out. His mind goes blank. What?
“Who are you? Guards, take her out!” Emily, Damien's grandmother, seethes with a red face. Between anger and shame, Damien is unsure of that.
“I cannot allow Damien to marry that woman!”
“And what might be the reason?” Emily asks, voice sharp. If looks could kill, the young woman in front of her would be lifeless by now.
“Because I am Damien's lover! I am the only one who can marry him.”
Damien frowns. Lover? Really?
He shakes his head. He needs to take control of the situation before it gets worse. He glances at his bride, and she gives him a firm nod. Maybe this will end better than they expect.
Damien steps down from the altar and within seconds, he's already next to a fuming Emily.
“Explain yourself, young man!”
Damien raises his hand in surrender. “I will, Nana. I promise. How about we let the guests go first?”
Emily groans in annoyance, but there's nothing she can do anyway. The wedding cannot take place. “I shall wait for you at the VIP lounge. Don't forget to apologize to Sophie's family.”
Emily turns around and leaves the hall through the VIP door, letting her grandson handle the chaos.
Damien calls Sophie over, and when the woman is close enough, he apologizes. “I believe you know where this is going. It shouldn't have happened.”
Sophie nods with a small smile. “Well, we were planning to divorce anyway. Our families are embarrassed, yes, but at least we don't have to waste time with a useless marriage.”
Damien nods. “Thanks for understanding, Sophie. Wait here for a bit, alright? I will talk to your parents.”
Sophie nods and watches Damien walk away. Her father seems angry, while her mother seems like she's about to faint. She sighs. She can only hope they recover from this shock soon.
She turns her gaze to the woman who barged in at the last minute, ruining everything.
“What's your name?” Sophie asks.
The woman seems to hesitate at first, but she answers anyway. “Darla.”
Sophie hums. She scans Darla up and down before a conclusion comes to her mind. She smiles and leans in closer to Darla, her voice barely above whisper. “I can see that you truly love Damien. Cherish and protect your love.”
Just then, Sophie's parents come and take Sophie's hand, dragging her home with them. The guests follow suit, ending the drama there.
Darla sighs. She is scared to turn around and face Damien. She should just run, right?
Alright, she will run on the count of three. One, two…
“What the hell were you thinking?!”
