RAVEN SHOOK HIS HEAD TO CLEAR HIS THOUGHTS.
He only has one mission. It is to protect his goddess and lessen the chaos the god of lie might add.
While walking on a rocky road, Raven walked near Aia, held her hand, and guided her on a smoother path. It leaves the knight to stop holding her hand and walk alone. Raven prefers it that way.
It will take longer for them to reach their destination since they must blend in with the humans. They must remain unnoticed once they arrive at the Kingdom of Knaves. However, being cautious because a human is walking along them is more challenging for Raven now that their kind should remain unidentified.
“Why would you like to know about our kingdom, my lady?” the knight asked while hopping on a fallen tree.
It was because it was the nearest kingdom they can visit to find the god of lie, Raven thought.
“I’m hoping to meet someone.”
Raven flinched. He did not expect a vague answer from the goddess.
“A friend? A relative? Or perhaps, a lover who was gone missing?”
He is a sly one, Raven observed.
The knight was trying to know who they were.
“He is someone I know. For a very long time.”
Raven smiled as they walked on.
His goddess is a clever one. She will never trust another human again.
The knight shrugged as if it didn’t matter to him who she was after. But his words prove otherwise.
“I am intrigued because only two types of people go to our kingdom. The losers and the hunters.”
“Are you a hunter?”
“No. I am more of a loser. Don’t let the armor fool you.”
She will not be a fool, you fool.
Raven wanted to smack him.
“So, who is it? Who is the man you’re willing to risk your life for only to see a glimpse of him?”
“I am not just going to see a glimpse of him, Sir. I am going to—”
A twig snaps nearby.
Raven held Aia and covered her.
A black arrow came toward the knight’s face. He was able to see it before he moved to avoid it. It hits the branch of a tree.
There was another arrow. But the knight cut it with his sword before it hit them.
“Run!” the knight yelled.
They followed the knight. He seemed to know what was happening.
“Who are they?” the goddess asked while running.
Raven looks back and sees nothing. But his senses tell him someone is following.
“Black Wolves,” the knight replied as if that explained everything.
“I didn’t know wolves can now use a bow and an arrow.”
“This is not the time to humor me, my lady. Those Black Wolves are bounty hunters for people hiding in the Kingdom of Knaves.”
“Ah… I see. I understand now.”
“I am glad you did. Now, keep running. And do not stop until I tell you so,” the knight said as they kept running. “Their arrows could be poisoned.”
Another arrow flew near them.
Raven stopped running to see where their enemy was. The knight rolled his eyes at him. But Raven does not care if he does not follow his command. His goddess might be immortal, but she will feel pain if the attacker belongs to their kind. And if her wounds heal in a matter of seconds, it will expose them to the human they are running with, so he decided to fight back.
Raven was about to hunt their attacker when Aia held him by his arm.
“No.”
That one word urges Raven to calm himself. She was right. He should not kill any human. That is not part of their plan.
Another arrow came. And another. The hunter might gather his companions at this rate. Soon, arrows will fly to them like rain.
The knight immediately lifted Aia and ran as fast as he could. It shocked Raven because he dared to carry the goddess like a bag of stolen rice.
Raven had no choice but to follow the two. Their steps were precise. No roots or rocks would stop their feet as they moved faster towards one direction. Raven kept up with him. But it was astonishing for the shapeshifter to realize their speed was the same.
This man.
This knight.
Raven sensed he was not an ordinary human.
