The Hidden Past

17: Premonitions and Whispers

17: Premonitions and Whispers

Nov 22, 2025

Jenny watched her sister resting in the living room. Thalia had just returned from their camping trip.

She felt deeply grateful. Thalia was home—safe, unharmed. Sometimes Jenny’s premonitions came true late… sometimes not at all.

It’s fine if my vision was wrong, she told herself. What matters is that everyone survived… including Ruth.

“Sis, I’ll sleep first. I’m exhausted,” Thalia said with a faint smile.

“Okay. Rest well,” Jenny answered softly.

Thalia nodded and headed to their room.

A small tug on Jenny’s sleeve broke her thoughts. She turned and saw Greg, staring in the direction Thalia had gone.

“What is it, Greg?” she asked gently.

“Sis…” His voice trembled. “Why are there so many people following Sister Thalia?”

Jenny stiffened.
“Who’s following her?”

“Women,” Greg whispered. “They look scary… their pasts are full of pain. And they won’t stop until justice is served.”

Jenny swallowed hard. She didn’t know how to respond. Instead, she pulled Greg closer, trying to calm him.

“They’re going to bother Sister Thalia,” Greg added, eyes wide. “She knows something.”

Jenny’s confusion deepened. She had sensed something was wrong the moment Thalia walked through the door. Her quietness. The heaviness around her. Thalia never hid things like this unless they were terrible.

What happened to you? Jenny wondered.

Then—
A premonition struck her like a cold wave.

She saw Thalia inside a large white house… watching someone.
Then she saw a schoolmate die—shot before reaching her doorstep.
The gunman wore a hood. His lips curled into a smile as the girl collapsed.

Jenny gasped aloud.

Another vision flashed—
Felix helping someone.
Then Jenny herself searching for something in a place that wasn’t their home… yet felt oddly familiar.

Many people will suffer the consequences… she thought with dread.

To Jenny, it made sense. The deaths of the two murdered siblings had awakened karma.
What happened to our family—including our cousin—was not without reason.

She clenched her fist.

She had already spoken to Felix. He suspected their parents’ deaths had never been accidental. And Jenny… she had always believed that something darker was behind it. But she feared her own powers—feared what her visions implied.

Her gift only showed fragments of the future.
Greg’s gift frightened him.
She tried to protect him from seeing too much.

One vision haunted her:
A schoolmate of Thalia’s dying slowly from gunshot wounds.
The hooded man walking away, amused.

Jenny didn’t know who the girl was, but she knew:
This death would trigger everything that was coming.

Greg, now asleep beside her, breathed softly. She didn’t want to wake him. They had been playing earlier, trying to enjoy the moment.

Then—
A shadow moved across the room.

Jenny frowned.
There were only three of them in the house.

A wave of unease rose in her chest. She scanned the space—nothing.

Am I imagining things? she wondered.

Then something passed right in front of her.

Her breath hitched.

She turned toward Greg—
and froze.

Floating above him was a woman, staring intensely at the boy.
Blood dripped from her body.
Her dress was torn, creased, ragged—
her eyes hollow, desperate.

Jenny’s lungs tightened.
She couldn’t breathe.

The spirit slowly turned her head toward Jenny.

Whispers slipped into the air:

Don’t let the victims multiply.
That’s enough.
Help her.

Jenny tried to speak—but no sound escaped her throat.

If this continues, more people will suffer… and grieve.

There was sorrow in the woman’s voice. Deep, aching sorrow.

Jenny didn’t move.
She listened—fighting the urge to scream.

Use the ability that you siblings possess.

And then—
the ghost vanished.

Jenny trembled violently. She reached for a chair just to steady herself.

Your ability…?

The words echoed in her mind.

She knew Greg had a gift.
She knew hers.

But… Felix?

Did he have something too?
And Thalia?

Her fear slowly shifted into questions—heavy, tangled questions.

She felt exhaustion pull at her eyelids. She needed sleep. Tomorrow would bring new answers—or new terrors. Forcing meaning now might drive her insane.

She lifted Greg gently, carrying him to the bedroom. The boy never stirred.

What else could possibly happen next?
The thought chilled her.

She pushed open the bedroom door.

Thalia was fast asleep, exhaustion written across her face.

Jenny didn’t ask anything.
She didn’t want to disturb her peace—not after everything.

She placed Greg beside her, pulled the blanket over them both, and lay down beside them.

She prayed her dreams would be quiet tonight—

and not more visions of blood.
