The Adventurer Insurance Founder

Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Nov 15, 2025

Three days after the collapse of the southern tower foundation Evan gathered his supplies and prepared for a journey into the Deep Enclave. It was a region known in legend for housing some of the rarest magical materials. It was also known for unpredictability, unstable mana storms, and rumor of Umbra Broker patrols. Evan had never been outside Aerilon since founding Crestfall Risk Shield. He had built a system that protected adventurers, but today he would enter a danger zone himself.

Garron, Draven, Elira, and Mira waited beside the city gate. Garron wore reinforced armor. Draven carried extra blades. Elira packed cleansing herbs. Mira brought three journals filled with hazard readings and notes. Evan carried the broken Magic Risk Indicator in a leather bag. The cracked crystals glimmered faintly, as if remembering their purpose.

The guild master met them at the gate. He handed Evan a sealed letter. This gives you travel clearance across all guild posts. And a warning. The Umbra Brokers are moving. Scouts saw shadows along the ridges last night. Evan nodded. They will not stop us. The guild master placed a firm hand on Evan’s shoulder. Be careful. The city depends on your return.

The journey to the Deep Enclave began at sunrise. The landscape outside Aerilon shifted quickly from gentle plains to jagged rock formations. The air grew colder. Strange vibrations pulsed beneath the soil. Elira explained that the Enclave was formed centuries ago when mana storms ravaged the region. The storms carved tunnels and filled the soil with resonant ore. It was one of the few places where fate resonance crystals formed naturally.

Evan studied the readings Mira recorded. The resonance frequency in this region exceeded everything he had seen. Even with the broken device he could feel faint oscillations. The Enclave pulsed with potential. The stronger the region’s magic the greater the risk. Garron noted twisted trees with blackened roots. Draven found claw marks along stone pillars. Elira sensed faint traces of curse constructs. The Umbra Brokers had been here.

As they entered a narrow ravine a sudden tremor shook the ground. Rocks slid down the ridge. Garron stepped ahead. Draven raised his sword. Evan braced himself. A cluster of shadowy figures emerged from behind jagged rocks. They wore black cloaks and masks. Their presence matched the signature resonance Evan identified in his hazard charts. Umbra Brokers.

One of them stepped forward. His voice was cold. You continue to interfere. Your towers disrupt the cycle. Your numbers expose our harvest. Evan tightened his grip on the broken device. We measure danger to protect lives he said. The masked figure shook his head. Survival is not part of the design. Death fuels the shadow. You are a threat to our cycle.

Before Evan could speak further the attackers launched their ambush. Three curse blasts erupted from the shadows. Garron blocked the first with his shield. Draven sliced through the second. Elira countered the third with a cleansing barrier. Evan instinctively analyzed the pattern. The attackers coordinated using curse resonance rhythm. They pulsed their magic in a predictable cycle.

Evan shouted Time your strikes between the pulses. Garron adjusted his stance. Draven moved with surprising precision. The pulses slowed. Elira used a fate tether spell to reveal the next curse surge before it happened. Evan recorded the pattern mentally. Even in battle he looked for structure.

The Umbra Brokers retreated into the shadows leaving behind curse shards like burning coals. The group moved deeper into the ravine. The air grew thick with echoing hums. Finally they reached the entrance of the Deep Enclave mines. A long cavern mouth glowed faint blue.

Evan stared in awe. The walls pulsed like a heartbeat. Crystals emerged from the stone like veins. Some glowed blue. Others glowed purple. A few even radiated golden light. Elira explained. These are resonance ore formations. The blue ones measure mana drift. The purple ones read probability curves. The rare golden ones stabilize fate alignment.

Evan knelt and examined a cluster of golden ore. This is what we need to rebuild the device he said. It will allow us to stabilize the hazard towers. Mira took careful notes. Draven and Garron secured the area.

But the deeper they entered the stronger the vibrations. The ore hummed in irregular patterns. Elira frowned. Something is wrong. These crystals should be stable. Evan touched a purple shard. It flickered violently. That should not happen he said. Resonance ore does not flicker unless external magic alters its structure. The Umbra Brokers were not only sabotaging the city. They were corrupting the world itself.

As they reached a wide chamber Evan noticed a massive resonance crystal embedded in the ground. It pulsed unevenly. At its base dark tendrils wrapped around the stone like vines. Curse infestation. Elira gasped. They infected the root crystal. That will destabilize the entire region. Garron growled. Are they trying to collapse the Enclave.

Evan understood. The Umbra Brokers wanted uncontrolled resonance storms. Chaos storms. Predictive models would fail. Hazard towers would fall. Adventurers would die. The city would fear magic again. And the Brokers would regain power.

He made a decision. We must cleanse the root crystal. Draven stared at him. How. Evan placed the broken device on the ground. I will use the remaining resonance inside this core to realign the crystal. Elira’s eyes widened. That could destroy the device completely. Evan nodded. A tool can be rebuilt. A region cannot. He placed both hands on the broken device and focused.

He felt the resonance pulse. He guided the fractured crystal’s remaining energy into the chamber. Elira stood beside him channeling light. Garron held back curse tendrils emerging from the ground. Draven cut twisted vines that reached toward the root crystal. Mira recorded values as the resonance curve slowly stabilized.

But the curse energy resisted. It fought like a living force. Evan pressed harder. The device shook violently. Cracks spread. Elira shouted You cannot hold this alone. Evan replied Then help me. She placed both hands on the ground and summoned cleansing waves. The chamber glowed bright white. The curse tendrils withdrew.

Finally with a sharp crack the broken device shattered completely. The light surged outward. The curse vines evaporated. The root crystal pulsed with steady golden rhythm once again.

Silence followed. Evan breathed heavily. The device was gone. But the region was saved.

Draven sheathed his sword. That was reckless he said. Garron added But necessary. Elira placed a hand on Evan’s arm. You saved the Enclave.

Evan slowly stood. We have what we need he said. He held a handful of golden resonance ore. This will allow us to build a better device. Stronger. More accurate. Resistant to curse interference.

The group prepared their packs. Mira wrote the final numbers in her logbook. Evan looked at the glowing chamber one last time. The Umbra Brokers had tried to destroy the Enclave. But they failed.

Now the city had hope. And Evan had the materials he needed to fight back.

Tomorrow they would return to Aerilon. And the next stage of the war of risk and shadow would begin.

In a fantasy world where adventurers die faster than quests can be posted, one man decides to change everything. Evan Crestfall, a calm and analytical former risk modeler from another world, arrives in a land filled with monsters, dungeons, curses, and chaotic magic. After seeing how unprepared adventurers are and how little the guild understands real danger, he establishes the first Adventurer Insurance Company.

Evan creates new insurance plans that cover injuries, death benefits, equipment loss, and team based risk sharing. He introduces magical risk indicators, divination actuarial forecasting, and behavior based premium adjustment. With these tools he can predict the danger of every quest and calculate the survival chances of every adventurer.

As Evan reshapes the entire guild economy, competitors appear. Some are honest and want to learn from him. Others are black market operators who curse their customers to avoid paying claims. Between battles with magical beasts and battles with corrupt insurers, Evan must defend his growing company and prove that risk control is as heroic as any sword or spell.

This is the story of how one man builds a new industry in a world ruled by chaos and danger and how his work becomes the shield behind every hero.
