I’ve never seen Noah leave for work before; I was always asleep at the time. But after waking up at random times throughout the night I happened to be awake for it today. The apartment is small, clearly meant for one person. There’s an open area with the kitchen on one side and living room on the other, then a bathroom and bedroom that both have doors in the living room area. I don’t know what time it was when he woke up, but the sun wasn’t up yet. I was lying on the couch staring at the ceiling when he left his bedroom and headed into the bathroom. I expected him to be one of those annoying morning people who are immediately ready to handle every day, but he seemed groggier than I was. I used to have a morning routine. I would water the plants first, I wouldn’t remember to do it otherwise, and I would always look out the windows while I did it. I would eat breakfast next. Then I had a whole routine of stretches I would do, I originally had tried to work out every morning I had wanted to be as strong as possible, but I had hated it and moved on to just stretching. After that I would shower and get ready for the day. I hadn’t done the full routine in at least a year, the plants had all died pretty quickly after I started forgetting to water them or wasn’t home to do it. After that I slowly stopped doing any part of it till I reached my current state of rarely eating in the mornings and having nowhere to get ready for.
Noah came out of the shower soon after I began lamenting my own self. He had a towel wrapped around his waist and hurried into his bedroom, but I don’t think he knew I was awake. He only had a couple marks on his chest, small symbols I couldn’t make out. It struck me as odd; he was willing to let me stay here, so I guess I assumed he gave his heart out to lots of people. I lifted my hand up in front of me and looked at the intertwined marks that nearly reached my wrist, I avoided getting them as much as I could, but I still somehow ended up with new ones every year. Now they twisted up my arms and were slowly climbing my neck.
I suppose I should stop assuming things about Noah. I didn’t seem to be right about anything when it came to him. He left after a while and I got off the couch. I went over to the small empty space between the living room and kitchen and began to stretch.
