"What?" Had she heard him right?
"I wanted someone that looked like they were from California. You're perfect with your blue eyes and blonde hair." He looked her up and down. "You even have the right body type, to fit with mine." He winked at her. "Height in a love scene makes a difference."
She swallowed. "Of course it does."
He moved towards the door and opened it. "You are coming?" His Korean accent paired with a smirk made him incredibly sexy. Trish was momentarily surprised at her reaction. Be professional, she reminded herself.
"Sure am. I said I'd do anything, right?" She winked at him and followed him down the trailer steps. Squeals erupted from the crowd as they exited, and she followed him over to some chairs by the paved plaza surrounded by swaying palms near the beach.
In-ho stopped in front of another man that was talking to someone by a playback screen. "I have got a replacement. I'll do the scene with her."
The man with the ball cap took off his headphones and looked her up and down. "You will do the scene if she is the girl?"
In-ho nodded, and the man with the ball cap snapped his fingers. He started giving quick orders in Korean, and people started moving about like squirrels. A woman came over to Trish and said, "You'll need to be put into make-up."
Trish let herself be led into one of the chairs as In-ho walked over to a table in the shade. It was end to end full of food. Cold cuts, slices of cheese and bread were set out with paper plates and napkins. She watched him start building a plate when the stylist got her attention. "I'll have to take off all of your current make-up."
"Do what you need to do. I'm all yours." Trish sat in the chair, closed her eyes, and leaned back, letting the make-up artist do her work.
She heard Felicia say, "Whatever you did Trish, thank you."
She opened her eyes for a moment as she felt a make-up brush go over her cheeks. "He just seemed to need someone to run lines and then before I know it, I'm in a chair getting make-up done."
"Well, he's decided you're the right one for the female model in the video, Trish. And it will get the filming going again." She leaned and gave me a wink. "It helps sometimes to just sacrifice yourself for the cause. Besides, you get to be in a video on your second day. I've had to take the plunge myself sometimes when I first started out." She shook her head. "I was right. You're going to be a great assistant. I like someone that is willing to go all the way to get the work done." She patted Trish on the shoulder and walked away as the make-up woman continued working her magic.
Another woman came up and looked her over. "I think we can use the same skirt, but I'm going to have to change your blouse. I'll be right back."
The make-up artist finished her look with setting spray just as the costumer returned with a designer blouse of a solid blue color to match her black skirt. Her low heels were exchanged for some silver stilettos. They put them on her while she was in the chair, and then motioned for her to use a trailer to change into the blouse.
She changed and stood in front of the mirror just for a second, and didn't recognize herself. A model stood before her. The blouse was a designer brand. The heels were higher than she was used to. The make-up made her look like a different person. Her hair was perfect. She knew she'd never get her hair to do that on her own. For now, she looked like Cinderella going to the ball. All fancied up and ready to star with a Kpop idol.
She smiled. This was the best start to a job, ever. She was sure earning some brownie points with her boss, and she got to have fun being in the thick of a real pop video. She took a deep breath and walked back out. All that work getting the marketing degree was paying off.
Going down the trailer steps was tricky, but Trish made it without falling and was met outside by a man with a headset. "They're ready for you."
She followed him to an area of the street that was set with lights and angled to catch the sun. The Santa Monica Pier and other buildings gave it a distinct California vibe. In-ho was already set and ready to go. "Hi, again," she smiled.
He nodded, not saying a word, but instead turned to look at the man with the ball cap. He spoke in Korean and then said a few words in English, "Does she know the lines?"
Trish answered, "Is it the ones that we practiced in the trailer?"
In-ho answered. "Yes, do you need one more look?"
"Actually, that would help. I didn't know I'd have to say them for real."
Someone stepped up and gave her a small script, opened to the page they were shooting. She looked over the lines for "Girl" and knew she could memorize the two lines she had to say. Refreshed on what she had to do, she was confident she was ready. She handed the script back to the girl that had come forward, and turned to In-ho. "You ready to be dumped?"
He smiled back for the first time and her insides dropped. Her stomach hadn't flipped for a guy in a long time. She knew it might be hard to be angry with him. Then, she thought of Brian. Bingo. All she had to do was pretend he was Brian.
In-ho turned to the man in the red baseball cap. She figured he must be the director. He glanced at the screen to the side near him, and moved his finger down saying, "Action."
She put her hands on her hips, pulling up all her anger for Brian. "It's over."
This time, the hurt in In-ho's face cut deep. He was beautiful in the terrible pain he was showing on his face. "Don't tell me it's over. I'll do anything."
She turned, folded her arms as he placed his arm on her shoulder. She spoke her line like they had practiced. "It's over."
"Just give me one more chance. One more chance." She heard a playback of music start and In-ho started to sing. The Korean was full of emotion like he'd sung before. She really tried hard not to turn around. Then she realized, she hadn't finished reading the scene. She hadn't read the ending. She tried to not let that thought show, holding onto the anger. But the song's power and rhythm started to overpower her, like most power ballads of the past, she started to melt. Then, he turned her, pulling her close.
"Give me another chance." He held her, staring into her eyes. She blinked once, confused on what to do. Then, he kissed her. His lips pressed gently against hers and she responded. She couldn't help it. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he did around her waist. She heard the director say, "Cut." She pulled away from In-ho, breathless. God, he knew how to kiss.
She heard the director say, "Ok, now for take two."
"Take two?" Trish said, blushing.
"Yeah. We might have to do this all afternoon." In-ho smiled, not letting her go.
Best. Job. Ever!
