The Arcane City Architect

Episode 11

Episode 11

Nov 17, 2025

The chamber erupted into motion the moment Silas Verdan unleashed his shadow construct. The entity moved like liquid smoke pulled into the shape of a human figure. It had no face, no weight, no visible joints. Its edges flickered with unstable mana and its steps made no sound. Kira reacted first. She moved in front of Evan with her sword raised. The blade passed through the construct as though it were made of heavy air. The creature staggered but did not fall. It reformed instantly.

Arwyn shouted for the guards to spread out. Brunn charged forward with a roar, swinging his hammer. The impact shook the ground. Stone fragments rained from the ceiling. But the construct absorbed most of the damage. It pushed Brunn backward with a silent burst of mana force that sent him rolling across the chamber floor.

Silas watched calmly. “You cannot fight shadows. You should know this, Architect Crest. Structures cannot resist what they cannot touch.”

Evan ignored him. He studied the construct’s movement. The creature reacted to mana pressure rather than physical impact. Every time Kira swung her sword, the construct shifted its form to reduce resistance. When Brunn struck it, the creature distributed the force across its surface. This was advanced architecture in motion. A construct designed to adapt to pressure patterns.

Evan shouted, “Kira, stop attacking its body. Aim for the anchoring point. It is drawing power from a source field. Break the field and the construct collapses.”

Silas raised a brow. “Sharp eyes. Then again the guardian chose you for a reason.”

The construct lunged toward Evan. Kira intercepted again but the creature simply passed through her blade. Evan stepped aside at the last moment and pressed his hand against the floor. He felt the tremor of mana channels running beneath the chamber. The construct’s field connected to the channel through thin strands of dark mana like roots searching for water.

Evan raised his voice. “Brunn. Strike the floor. Here.”

He slammed his hand onto a specific point. Brunn trusted him and swung his hammer exactly where Evan indicated. The floor cracked. A pulse of raw mana burst upward. The construct flinched violently and its form twisted into jagged shapes. Kira struck again and this time her blade met resistance. The construct howled without sound and staggered backward.

Silas frowned. “You truly are not ordinary.”

The construct tried to re-stabilize but Evan pressed his palm against a second mana point. “Brunn, again. Now.”

The dwarf struck. The floor erupted in another pulse. The construct shrieked silently and lost its form. It collapsed into a scatter of dark mist that evaporated into nothing.

Kira breathed hard. “That thing was not alive. It felt wrong. Hollow.”

Evan stood slowly. “A shadow construct. Calren designed them. They borrow form from the surroundings. They can mimic footsteps, shapes, even voices. But they need stable mana streams to hold shape. Break the stream and they fall apart.”

Silas clapped slowly. “Excellent. Impressive. My master was right. Only another architect can counter his work.”

Arwyn stepped between Silas and Evan. “You will not leave this chamber alive. Turn yourself in.”

Silas smiled. “Why would I surrender when the Heart is already in motion?”

Evan narrowed his eyes. “What do you mean?”

Silas raised a glowing sphere from under his cloak. The stabilizer core. The Heart. Its surface pulsed with blue and gold patterns. Evan felt the entire chamber react to it. The walls trembled. The floor vibrated. Mana currents spiraled around the chamber like winds caught in a whirlpool.

Silas held the Heart with both hands. “This is only one core. But the ancient builders created many. When merged they create a resonance strong enough to reshape entire regions. Calren discovered the sequence. I preserved it.”

Evan stepped forward. “You cannot do this. You will kill thousands.”

“I will kill in order to save,” Silas replied. “Calren believed the kingdom needed a new foundation. The old cities must fall. The Heart will guide the collapse. Once the dust settles, people like you will rebuild everything the correct way.”

Evan clenched his fists. “You think destruction is design. But it is not. Architecture is not control. It is responsibility.”

Silas’s eyes shimmered. “Responsibility comes after revolution.”

He lifted the Heart. The chamber’s runes lit up bright blue. Arwyn shouted for everyone to fall back. The mana flux intensified. Evan felt the floor crack under his feet.

Silas pressed the Heart into the pedestal at the chamber’s center.

A deep roar filled the room. A wave of force blasted outward. The guards were thrown against walls. Arwyn and Kira held onto stone pillars. Brunn dug his boots into the floor while shielding his face. Evan fell to one knee, his head ringing.

Silas stood at the center of the storm. “This chamber will collapse. It is only the first step. When the Heart awakens fully the destabilization will spread to Eastwall. Then the northern provinces. Then the central kingdom.”

Evan forced himself to stand. “You will destroy everything. And nothing will be left for your so called rebirth.”

Silas tilted his head. “You underestimate the blueprint.”

The chamber ceiling cracked. Massive chunks of stone crashed down. Evan grabbed Arwyn’s arm. “We need to leave. Now.”

Kira pulled Brunn to his feet. The guards scrambled while the chamber shook like a living beast. Silas walked calmly toward a hidden side tunnel that opened as if responding to his presence.

Evan shouted, “Silas. Stop.”

Silas turned to him with a strange sadness. “You have potential. But you lack vision. When the collapse begins, remember that I offered you the chance to join us.”

He vanished into the darkness. The side tunnel sealed behind him.

Evan looked at the Heart glowing violently in the pedestal. The mana channels around the chamber spiraled out of control, feeding the unstable core. The structure groaned. The entire valley trembled.

Arwyn shouted, “Evan, can we stop it?”

Evan looked at the Heart. Looked at the runes. Looked at the collapsing ceiling.

“Yes,” he said. “But not here.”

He took a deep breath. Pressed his hands against the pedestal.

And ripped the Heart free.

Light burst across the room.

The chamber collapsed.

And everything turned white.
