Nature Tycoon of the Magic Realm

Nov 17, 2025

The sky darkened quickly as Ethan and Arwyn pressed deeper into the eastern cliffs. The red light of dusk faded into violet, and the glowing threads under the ground began to sharpen into clearer lines. The land itself seemed alert, its energy tense and focused. Siroth appeared overhead, responding to Arwyn’s whistle, circling wide arcs above them. His low call vibrated across the canyon walls, echoing through the wild terrain.

Ethan felt the ley lines shifting with every step they took. The pull was stronger than at the northern ridge, as if something deeper gnawed at the very roots of the land. He moved faster, guided not by sight but by instinct. The glowing threads beneath the earth pulsed like veins under skin. They flickered with warning.

Arwyn stayed close, her steps light yet controlled. Her breath formed faint clouds in the cooling air. “The pull is stronger here,” she said. “Stronger than anything I have felt before.”

Ethan nodded. “Something big is happening. Bigger than a single circle.”

They reached a narrow stretch of cliff where the ground rose sharply. The path was unstable, but the ley lines formed a faint guide across the stone. Ethan placed one hand on the ground and let the land speak. The pulse beneath his palm felt jagged. Unsteady. Afraid.

Arwyn knelt beside him. “What do you see.”

“It’s close,” Ethan said. “The extractor. Or whatever they’re building.”

They pushed upward through the narrow pass. The wind grew louder. It howled across the cliffside with an unnatural pitch. Ethan sensed the cause before he saw it. A distortion in the threads. A place where magic bent in unnatural angles.

Then Arwyn stopped abruptly, raising her hand. “There.”

Ethan looked through the trees and saw it.

A wide platform of stone jutted out from the cliff face, forming a natural terrace. But the terrace was no longer natural. At its center stood a tall structure made of dark stone. Unlike the small circle they had destroyed earlier, this one rose like a pillar. Thick runes cut into its surface glowed with pale, sickening light. A ring of smaller stones surrounded it, each humming with draining energy.

This was not a simple extractor.
It was a siphon tower.

Ethan’s heart pounded. “This could drain an entire region.”

Arwyn’s face hardened. “This is no rogue mage. This is a coordinated design.”

As they stepped closer Ethan felt the pull of the siphon tower like a strong current pulling at a riverbank. The ground around the tower was cracked, as if its life had been sucked dry.

Arwyn whispered, “Can you break it.”

Ethan shook his head. “Not alone. A circle is one thing. But this… this is anchored deep into the threads.”

Arwyn scanned the area. “Then we need a plan.”

Ethan stepped toward the tower. The closer he came, the more the land pulsed in distress. He felt the pain of the threads deep beneath the surface. They struggled, resisting the drain but losing strength with each passing moment.

Arwyn pointed toward a cluster of tracks on the ground. “Someone built this recently. These footprints are fresh.”

Ethan followed the tracks with his eyes. They led to a narrow path at the far end of the terrace. “Whoever built this is still nearby.”

Arwyn’s grip tightened on her blade. “We will confront them.”

But before they could take another step, the siphon tower pulsed with sudden intensity. The stones vibrated. Light shot upward in a column that pierced the night sky.

Ethan shielded his eyes. “It’s activating.”

Arwyn gritted her teeth. “We need to shut it down before it drains the ridge.”

Ethan placed his hand on the ground. The threads surged into his palm with raw information. Directions. Patterns. Weak points.

He saw it.

“The runes on the base,” Ethan said. “They’re the key. If we disrupt the lower glyphs the siphon will collapse.”

Arwyn stepped toward the nearest stone. “Then guide me.”

“Strike where the lines intersect,” Ethan said. “Three points. Right base. Left base. Then the center.”

Arwyn nodded once. “Call it.”

Ethan closed his eyes, reading the thread. The patterns shifted rapidly. The land resisted the siphon, but it needed direction.

“Now!” Ethan said.

Arwyn swept her blade across the right base. The rune cracked and released a burst of dark smoke. The siphon tower shuddered.

“Left!” Ethan called.

Arwyn dashed across the stones and struck the second glyph. It cracked with a sharp flash of light. Sparks scattered across the terrace.

The siphon tower screamed. A deep vibrating hum filled the air.

Ethan felt pressure slam against his senses. He staggered. “The center! Hurry!”

Arwyn lunged forward. The center glyph glowed with harsh white light. She raised her blade—

A wall of force slammed into her.

“Arwyn!” Ethan shouted.

She crashed against a rock and rolled aside, stunned. The siphon tower pulsed again, pushing back with violent magical force. Ethan ran to her side.

“I’m fine,” Arwyn hissed. “But I need an opening.”

Siroth screeched from above. The giant eagle dove through the air. His wings struck the siphon tower with a burst of wind so powerful it bent the light column.

Ethan shouted, “Now!”

Arwyn surged to her feet and sliced through the central glyph.

The tower froze. The runes went dark.

Then the entire structure cracked.

A massive wave of magic exploded outward.

Ethan grabbed Arwyn and pulled her to the ground. Siroth shielded them with his wings as the tower shattered into shards of stone and ash.

When the dust settled the ley lines pulsed again—slowly, but with relief.

Arwyn lifted herself up, coughing. “You saw the weak points.”

“The land showed me,” Ethan said.

Arwyn nodded. “Then it trusts you even more than I thought.”

But Ethan was not relieved.

Because in the rubble, near the base of the tower, lay a small metal insignia.

A symbol of a hooded figure holding a staff.

Arwyn picked it up. “I know this mark.”

Ethan looked at her. “Who does it belong to.”

Arwyn’s expression turned grim.

“An order from beyond the valley. A group that believes all magic belongs to them.”

Ethan clenched his fists. “Then they will return.”

Arwyn tucked the insignia into her belt. “And we will be ready.”

They stood together on the shattered terrace as the land hummed beneath them.

The valley had been attacked twice.
It would happen again.
But Ethan now knew the threads.
And the land now knew him.

He would protect it.

Whatever it took.
