Arcane Waste Engineer

Episode 13

Episode 13

Nov 18, 2025

The morning air carried the scent of damp stone and faint mana drifting from cracks in old buildings As I approached the tower workers and apprentices were already gathered in a wide circle around the structure Their faces tense but determined Today was the day we activated the Purification Ring the final major component of the Mana Incineration Tower and the part most feared by the public

The ring looked simple from the outside a wide stone band carved around the tower’s mid level But inside it ran a complex network of rune channels small filters and enchanted stones It would take incoming contaminated air strip mana out and release it as harmless vapor The challenge was making sure the mana stripped from the air did not pool or spark inside the ring

Solen stood beside me staff in hand His eyes looked sharper than usual He said we must proceed carefully The Purification Ring required more precision than the previous sections If we made one mistake energy could leak creating a burst of unstable air flow louder than an explosion

Workers carried crates of powdered chalk and silver flakes Apprentices held buckets of moisture stones and jars of glow dust used to track rune activity Leron brought the activation crystals and placed them on a wooden table Each crystal glowed faint blue bright enough to cast soft light on the stone floor

I walked around the ring inspecting each rune line Some were shallow some deep but all had to be even and active Correct activation meant the glow traveled smoothly from bottom to top Incorrect activation meant sparks bounced in uneven patterns I adjusted several lines with chalk smoothing curves and sharpening angles It reminded me of adjusting wiring in old facilities on Earth A single loose connection could shut down an entire system

Once satisfied I stepped back and took a slow breath Everyone watched me closely Workers guards even a few curious residents standing behind the rope boundary I raised my voice explaining the process First we would test a small section of the ring If it held stable we would activate the entire band around the tower No one moved Everyone listened like students waiting for their first lesson

Leron inserted the first activation crystal The ring pulsed softly alternating between blue and white light The glow climbed upward slowly The air grew warm not hot but steady like metal being heated carefully I placed my hand on the stone feeling the vibrations They were rhythmic like a slow breathing pattern

Good stable I whispered

Next we activated the second section It pulsed brighter but remained calm The glow shifted to a soft gold then faded back to blue I checked the lines again Everything looked correct Solen nodded telling me to proceed with the full activation

Leron stepped toward the large central socket and placed the main activation crystal inside The entire ring lit up instantly A wave of soft blue light circled the tower climbing to the top and falling back to the base in a smooth spiral Workers gasped The sound echoed like a deep breath being drawn through ancient stone

Then we began the real test

Two guards brought a sealed container filled with low level red dust The dust was harmless in small amounts but unstable enough to activate the purification ring I told everyone to step back I unsealed the container letting a faint cloud rise into the air The dust drifted upward toward the ring The air shimmered as the dust touched the glowing lines The ring brightened pulsing faster catching the contaminated air and pulling it through small ventilation channels

Moments later clear white vapor emerged from the upper vents The dust had been stripped clean transformed into harmless particles that fell to the ground like soft snow Workers cheered softly but I raised a hand asking them to stay alert The ring had more tests to pass

We repeated the experiment with stronger dust and small cursed fragments Each time the ring handled them easily It hummed softly and released purified air without noise The apprentices stared in awe One whispered this was the first time they had seen cursed fragments turn silent

But then something unexpected happened As we prepared to test a small piece of black waste the tower shook lightly Not violently but enough for workers to glance around Nervous murmurs filled the area Then I noticed faint vibrations coming from the ground not from the tower Something approached

A moment later three robed figures walked toward us They wore royal insignia The nobles who opposed the tower The leader stepped forward carrying a scroll He announced loudly the council received too many complaints Residents feared the tower residents feared the recent sabotage incidents and residents feared accidents caused by uncontrolled magic He claimed the tower must halt operation until further investigation

The workers fell silent Some exchanged angry glances Others worried about their jobs Solen stepped forward arguing the tower was stable and essential The noble dismissed him with a wave saying the tower invited hostility from rogue groups and turning it off would calm political tensions

I looked at the noble He avoided my eyes I realized this was not about safety This was an attempt to stall the project long enough for the Ash Guild to escalate their attacks

I stepped forward and explained calmly that we just tested the ring successfully I offered to let the nobles examine the tower themselves but they declined The leader said they did not need evidence because the public feared what they did not understand

The argument grew louder Workers tried to defend the tower but nobles shouted back The scene drew residents from surrounding streets Some yelled that they wanted the tower Others cried that they feared it The field filled with voices rising and crashing like waves in a storm

To restore control Solen raised his staff and struck the ground Light rippled outward Everyone fell silent

He declared the tower would remain active until the council held a formal meeting He ordered the nobles to leave They glared but obeyed reluctantly mumbling angrily as they walked away

The crowd slowly dispersed Worried looks remained on many faces but the tension eased

When the field became quiet again Leron approached telling me something troubling He said he felt a faint pulse from the tower during the noble’s argument A strange rhythm He believed it might be reacting to strong emotion around it The tower was designed to stabilize mana flow but if intense fear surrounded it perhaps some energy could resonate with the runes

It was a chilling thought A structure shaped by order affected by emotion But even with that risk we could not stop

At sunset we locked the tower’s activation control for the night I inspected every line ensuring no cracks or disruptions Workers remained close by sleeping in the tents again Guards doubled their patrols

As I sat on a wooden crate near the ring I whispered to myself The tower breathes the tower purifies but the kingdom still struggles to understand why it is needed Tomorrow we test black waste Tomorrow we face whatever fear remains

When a modern waste management specialist is pulled into a fantasy kingdom filled with magical residue and unstable enchanted trash, he becomes the first Arcane Waste Engineer in history. Armed with practical engineering logic and zero tolerance for unsafe disposal, he transforms a chaotic world of spell dust, monster remains, rogue magic crystals, and discarded cursed items into a structured system of magical recycling and safe waste treatment.
He introduces arcane sorting rules, enchanted recycling stations, mana powered incineration towers, and magical composting sites that turn monster organs and spell soaked debris into new resources.
But danger rises from every corner. Illegal workshops smuggle toxic magic waste into the black market. Old nobles spread fear about mana pollution to sabotage his reforms. The alchemists guild opposes his regulated system for handling monster corpses. And the people of the Old City protest his new incineration tower.
Caught between politics, fear, and arcane chaos, he must prove that safe disposal can shape a better future and that even magic needs proper engineering.
