The Princess' First Dance

Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Nov 26, 2025

Not too long after, Eugene was dispatched to join the The Scarlet Shield (red knight order) and The Obsidian Vanguard (black knight order) to meet the foreign envoys half way to escort and protect them on the way to the empire safely. There are still a lot of monsters near the borders and experienced knights of the Veridian Empire are the only ones who knew how to subdue them since foreigners may not be familiar or used to them. Aside from being invited to the coming of age ceremony to strengthen the relationship with the empire and build certain friendship and connections with the nobles, these envoys will extend their stay as special guests in the royal palace for a few months until the announcement and coronation of the crown prince as they would need to have a new peace treaty among the representatives of each country. Most of the envoys are also about to come of age and were born royals. Some of the princes and princesses sent were the heirs andheiresses to the throne who are also in search for a spouse (one of Jenny's brothers who will be crown prince will meet his fated here). This expedition was conducted just three months away from the coming of age ceremony. Jenny also became quite busy as the officer in charge on the captain' behalf. When she found time to take a breather, she pouted at the sudden thought hit her. Why does it feel like deja vu? Again not a single word nor a letter. They're no longer strangers nor acquaintances or even close friends. But what are we? She thought. How do we define this vague unlabeled relationship? More than friends but less than lovers? I don't like the the sound of that. Then she regretted the times she avoided him. There were times she only avoided him to tease him and get back at him for making fun of her since she also liked seeing his reactions as he looked dejected like a puppy. She kinda saw invisible dog ears drooping or a wagging tail whenever he's so excited to see her. She was getting distracted with thoughts of his cute moments then she once again remembered, how could he? But the last confrontation with Eugene before their journey did not end well so maybe he felt hurt and held a grudge. She laid her head down on the desk and turned to look at Eugene's desk. Even though she was the acting captain while he was away, she still worked on her on table at their shared office. She stared at it for a long time and became even more sulky as a memory of herself flashed through her mind, rumaging through his table and drawers to check if he had left her a letter but no, it was empty. She even asked the other knights but they wondered why she was asking them. If he were to leave a letter, shouldn't he have left it to her since she's the vice captain and not with the knights? How embarasing. Good thing the knights didn't suspect anything and did not probed more. But do they really do not notice anything? Hmmm. Jenny eventually gave up on her wishful thinking but she still felt uneasy. She's not used to them being apart anymore and she misses him. How could her younger self have survive without seeing him for a few years? Now she can't even last a few weeks or months. However, she thought of a brilliant idea. She snucked up to his mansion again and stormed on his study which she haven't entered yet. This time she didn't dressed up as a maid or servant for disguise. She just impusively went there as herself in her night wear as it was an impromptu trip. There, she finally found what she had been wanting for. Eugene's desk was placed nearby the balcony window and the drapes were tucked on the side to let the sun or moonlight in like one may think that there's a person inside the room. No, it was set up this way because it was waiting for a person to come in. Jenny chuckled as he predicted and expected she would come. Now he knows her full well he can read her like a book. Something was sparkling because of the moonlight on the desk. When Jenny came close, she saw a glittering envelope and a stem of rose. It looks like it's been sitting there for days since he left but the rose is still fresh. When she held the rose up to her nose, it was no longer glowing. He used a preservation spell. It was a high level magic recently discovered by her fourth brother, Cedric who just came back from studying abroad. It was unexpected they became friendly with each other. She knew full well, that this capable brother of hers, was a shy person by nature who only befriends few people he likes. This must mean Eugen already got one approval out of four. Going back to the letter, the contents were quite short and brief but Jenny still loved it regardless. It was better than nothing she said. She treasured it more since it was the first letter she received from him. It was a sweet gesture afterall. The very next day, Jenny ran to the Magic Tower to seek her beloved brother her brother. As she expressed her intention to send a reply, Cedric gently patted her head. As the two youngest siblings, they have this some sort of special bond. They even came up with the same goal and dream of becomjng the Grand Master and Supreme Commander together. Jenny felt his support as he gave her a magical golden sparrow which she can use to send a letter. But once it delivers the letter to the recipient, it will vanish. It is still being researched and developed so he can only give her one. Jenny thought she only had one chance so she have to make the most out of it. She's not gonna waste this opportunity to send a simple reply. Of course not. She wrote him like a diary and finally sent her messenger sparrow on a journey in one and a half month. When it reached the hands of Eugene, it was just in time as they were on their way back home with the foreign envoys. He kept the journal in his inner coat pocket and signalled the horse to move forward as he waved goodbye at the disappearing golden sparrow.

A Note to My Readers,

The first story in the first volume of the "Echoes of the Heart" collection will be entering a hiatus.

Rest assured, the story will continue sometime in December. This brief pause is necessary to allow me to prepare for an important matter, which will also give me ample time to improve my writing and the story's progress.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Sincerely,
Sereneia (author)

P.S. As a temporary parting gift before the break, here is the eighth chapter of The Princess' First Dance. The original plan for this was to be a 10-chapter story. It may or may not end exactly at chapter 10, but the conclusion is definitely near. I hope this latest chapter brings more anticipation, interest, and patience as you wait for the story to continue and unfold its final act.

This was one of my initial story boards that I wanted to write. Most of the story ideas I had were in a modern setting. The typical japanese shoujo manga trope (high school, college romance). But I after I came across and became fond of rofan (romance fantasy, a korean manhwa genre), I wanted to try and produce that type of story. As of the moment, this is the only rofan story I have. One friday on the third week of October during my 25th year, I finally started writing this story after having a chat with my superior at work about publishing my writing. I already shared some of it to her verbally before. But I wanted to share a story to her with my own writing that's why I pulled out my phone, opened my rusty ole notes, scrolled through my story boards, and I finally chose this as the first story to tell. It became the start that sparked my imagination and I was able to unleash my heart. I hope to share this story with many more people. Now I went out of the shell and pulled my determination to publish this and more.
