He looked back up to see that she was finished sorting and awaiting his response. He nodded to this one, since it seemed she had picked it during a safe time. He vaguely wondered if her instinct skill might have played a part in her luck so far but without trying to look he was not sure. He watched as she pulled more of the berries out, handing him a large leaf next that was bright blue with green veins. He noticed that a couple of the ones she had grabbed were dark red, and waved his hand to get her attention before pointing at the dark red and shaking his head no. She looked back confused, and lifted one of the bright berries. He shook his head yes, and when she lifted a dark red one, he shook his head no again. Realization seemed to hit her then, and she carefully took the dark red ones out and placed them in a new pile, the bright red ones going into the “safe” pile.

Now that he was confident she knew how to sort them he turned back to the large leaf in his hand. Using “Appraise” once more, he read the provided info:

Object: Healing Palm Leaf

Characteristics: A large leafy plant that is nutritious but has an awful flavor and is found only in the Mystic Forest. Most used for its healing properties. When applied topically to an injury or processed and ingested, speeds up healing time and prevents infection. Bright blue with green veins.

Rarity: Very Rare

A rare herb? What are the odds that a random leaf she picked up would be an excellent healing herb that was hard to find? Also, how was he supposed to signal to her that it was safe but not appealing? He had always eaten whatever he could find to stay alive and complete his missions, but he remembered from his time undercover that most people would not willingly eat things that tasted nasty to them. As he was pondering how to explain this, he noticed that she had finished and was looking at him expectantly. Reaching forward to grab a berry that had slipped from her shirt-basket made his injury pull and he gave an involuntary jerk of pain that gave him an idea. 

Giving her the berry, he lifted his shirt to expose his cut completely and placed the leaf on top of the wound. He then nodded to her to show it was good for injuries and she excitedly gave him the other leaves she had collected to place on his wound. As she was piling the other couple leaves into his lap he noticed a decent gash on her wrist, probably gained while she was out foraging. He took one of the leaves and placed it on her gash, her whole body freezing in shock for a second before she gave him a wide smile that made her eyes crinkle. Seeing her smile filled him with a weird warmth and tingling sensation, one he had not felt in any previous encounters with someone that his memory could place. He didn’t have time to focus on that though as she had finished sorting and was now splitting the berries in half, and they began to munch on their meager dinner as the two suns sank below the treeline and darkness fell.
