Chapter 4: No reason for failure

Alongside the class about primordial crystals, Pierce also had lessons about the history of magic and the 8 great mages. He learned that every mage was from a different kingdom. He really wanted to know who the one from Octina was. For some reason, there was only a little information about him. His name was Coal. He was once the strongest, but the others stopped him when he tried to master very dangerous spells. Currently there’s no one in the position of the great mage. The other countries apparently don’t trust Octina after what happened.

Pierce was very interested in the history of magic so he passed the class with flying colors. The same couldn’t be said about Seth’s class. It was the day of the final exam. The students had to perform a spell with a primordial crystal. Without any experience, Pierce was a little worried.

All of the students gathered to the classroom.  The atmosphere was really intense. Seth wrote the order which the students came to perform the spell. When Pierce looked at the board, he was in shock. He was the first one.

“Come here, Pierce,“ Seth said.

“Um...sure,” Pierce answered.

Pierce went in front of the class and was given a thunder crystal.

He looked at Seth and asked: “Do I really have to do this in front of the entire class”

“Just focus on performing a spell with your entire body. Be one with the crystal,” Seth encouraged.

Pierce took a deep breath and close his eyes. He felt a connection to the crystal and a sparkle in his hands. He wasn’t afraid anymore and lifted his hand. Sparks of lightning were in his fingertip.

“Now create a ball of lightning with it,” Seth advised.

Just as Pierce was attempting to perform it, the lightning in his exploded across the classroom causing some of the student’s hairs and the walls to light on fire.

“Oh, shi...oot," Pierce shouted.

Everyone started to panic and Pierce was horrified. Seth quickly performed an ice spell that created a freezing wave of air. All of the fire was gone. The classroom was dead silent and everyone stared at Pierce. He turned to face Seth.

Seth looked at him with a cold stare and said: “We need to talk”
