The Arcane Medical Engineer

Nov 23, 2025

By late afternoon the rolling hills gave way to gentle valleys marked by scattered cottages and fields where mana infused crops swayed in the breeze. The scent of wild herbs and clean air carried across the wind. Ethan felt tension lift from his body as he realized they were approaching a place untouched by Guild authority. Sera smiled softly saying they had reached the outskirts of Lumerin.

The village appeared ahead nestled among low hills and surrounded by a modest wooden fence. Mana lanterns hung from posts though dimmer than those in Ardin giving the village a peaceful glow. Children ran across open fields chasing small creatures made of faintly glowing vines. Elderly villagers sat along porches weaving charms from natural fibers. The entire scene stood in stark contrast to the tense marble halls of Ardin.

As they entered Lumerin villagers paused to watch them. Their expressions held curiosity rather than suspicion. Sera greeted them warmly introducing Ethan as a healer researcher. Mira introduced herself quietly while Haldric nodded gruffly. Drienne offered a polite bow. The villagers welcomed them with simple kindness guiding them toward the central square where an old healer house stood.

Inside, the head healer of Lumerin a gentle middle aged man named Talen greeted them. He had soft eyes and wore robes stitched with symbols representing wisdom rather than rank. He invited them to sit and offered warm herbal tea. He listened attentively as Sera explained what had happened at the tribunal. She spoke of Ethan’s invention the accusations the escape and the pursuit. Talen remained silent through the entire story then spoke slowly.

He said the Guild had forgotten the purpose of healing. He said they protected power instead of people. He said Lumerin had long rejected their control and welcomed any knowledge that brought hope. When Ethan presented the Arcane Scan System Talen examined the casing with reverence. He did not ask whether the device challenged tradition. He asked only whether it helped the injured.

Ethan nodded.

Talen asked for a demonstration.

They entered a quiet room where a young woman lay on a bed clutching her stomach. She had been suffering from recurring mana sickness for months. Local healers treated symptoms but could not find the cause. Sera explained that the sickness returned every few days leaving the woman weak and feverish.

Ethan removed the casing and set up the Arcane Scan System. He took a breath and activated the rings. The soft hum filled the room. The glow wrapped around the woman’s body forming a slow ripple of mana patterns. Drienne studied the lines and nodded as Ethan pointed to a twisting distortion near the lower abdomen. He explained the pattern indicated a mana knot caused by lingering curse residue. Sera prepared a gentle cleansing spell guided by the scan. The mana knot dissolved steadily. The woman exhaled softly and opened her eyes for the first time that day.

Talen stared with stunned admiration. He said no healer in Lumerin had ever detected that kind of internal disruption. He asked Ethan how he built such a device. Ethan explained the principles as simply as he could. Talen listened carefully not with disbelief but with respect.

Word of the demonstration spread instantly. Villagers gathered outside eager to see the device. Some brought their children. Others came with old injuries. Talen asked Ethan to rest first but Ethan insisted he would help as many as he safely could.

For hours Ethan and Sera worked together scanning villagers guiding treatments and explaining patterns. Drienne documented everything while Mira comforted patients. Haldric watched the entrance for any sign of Guild pursuit but saw none.

As evening fell the village square glowed with lantern light. People thanked Ethan offering food handmade crafts and blessings. Ethan felt overwhelmed. These were simple villagers with no political agenda no desire for control only gratitude for healing.

Sera touched Ethan’s arm. She whispered that this was what healing should be. Accessible. Precise. Safe. Ethan looked at the scan system and felt warmth stir in his chest. Lumerin had shown him a glimpse of the future.

That night after returning to the healer house Ethan stepped outside. He gazed at the stars scattered like distant mana sparks across the sky. Sera joined him leaning quietly against his shoulder. She said the Guild might still come. But she also said they had allies now. Real allies. Ethan nodded. The world was vast and filled with people who wanted progress.

Tomorrow they would continue building.

And the Arcane Scan System would illuminate the path forward.

Ethan Lau is a medical device engineer who spent years designing imaging systems and surgical instruments for modern hospitals. During a late night at the lab a burst of light consumes him and he wakes up in a medieval fantasy world where mana flows like air and magic shapes daily life.

But the healing system of this world is primitive. Healers rely on intuition instead of measurement. Curses are treated with unstable spells that sometimes work and sometimes backfire. Internal injuries are diagnosed only by guesswork. Even the royal capital has no real medical equipment. Ethan sees a world filled with power yet lacking precision.

Using his engineering background he begins building the first magical medical devices the world has ever seen

Mana Scan System
A mana powered scanner that reveals internal wounds blocked mana flow curse residue and damaged organs. It becomes the magical world equivalent of MRI and CT combined.

Arcane Surgical Tools
Mana stabilized scalpels self cleaning blades vibration guided micro lances and enchanted surgical rigs that allow precise low risk operations even for healers with limited control.

Healing Assist Chambers
Controlled spell output environments that prevent healer burnout and regulate treatment strength for safer procedures.

Arcane Sterilization Lanterns
Tools that eliminate curse fragments and magical pathogens more effectively than fire or holy water.

With each invention Ethan shakes the entire kingdom. The Healer Guild sees him as a threat. Nobles fight to control his technologies. The royal family views him as a national treasure. Magical black markets attempt to steal his devices. And as Ethan learns more he discovers diseases caused by unstable mana corrupted monsters and curses that act like programmable infections.

Ethan is not just inventing tools. He is rebuilding the medical foundation of an entire magical world. His work will redefine healing surgery and life itself.
