An hour went by, as well as two episodes. The wine was very good, and Trish was almost done with her second glass. They were about to start their third episode when Jackie said, "You know, I'm starting to get a bit sleepy. Let me at least get you both set up into where you're sleeping tonight." She turned to In-ho. "You don't mind the couch do you?"
"No, that will be fine," he said with an muted tone.
"Marcy said Trish could sleep in her room. So, that leaves the couch. I'll go get some blankets for you." Jackie got off the couch and went into the other room. Trish could hear the movement of cupboards opening down the hall.
"I'll get our bags from the car." Before Trish could say anything, In-ho was moving towards the door, and going outside.
Trish got up and followed Jackie. She figured if In-ho needed help, he would have asked. When she got behind Jackie in the hallway, she said quietly, "Need me to do anything?"
"Thanks." Jackie grabbed a set of sheets she had over her arm. "You can help by grabbing the other side. It's hard to pull them across with one set of hands." They moved into the bedroom, and started to make the bed. As they adjusting the sheets together, Jackie commented, "God, he's gorgeous."
Trish tried to hide her grin. "I know."
"It must be amazing working with him." She gave her sheet a quick tug.
Thinking quickly, Trish said, "We're on a business trip to San Francisco." There, that covered everything quickly. After all, it was agency business to get him to where he needed to go, which, it was turning out, was his high school reunion. Who knows what kind of trouble she'd get into if she mentioned she was escorting a K-pop star. She felt she had to keep this low key and keep this a secret operation.
Jackie rolled her eyes. "That has gotta suck. He's too cute not to go after. But work colleagues should always be off limits."
"Really?" They had started to spread out a blanket. Trish got a better hold of the blanket as they shook it over the bed.
"Yeah. I got involved with a guy that worked with me in a coffee shop back during my sophomore year." Jackie shook the other side of the blanket, laid it down, and smoothed it out. "When we broke up, it just made it awkward at work. I ended up just getting another job, which sucked, because I really liked working at that shop."
"Well, we're keeping it professional." She lied. Because if she said what was going on, she may be in all sorts of trouble with Felicia if it didn't work out. But she'd gotten the go ahead to make him comfortable. She just didn't want to make it awkward and have to change jobs. What Jackie said fed her deepest fear. She needed to keep this job no matter what happened.
Jackie looked up from smoothing the blanket out. "I would. It's a shame to let all that gorgeous guyness go to waste."
"Well, he is a person. He's pretty cool, you know." Trish looked behind Jackie and realized In-ho was standing in the bedroom doorway.
In-ho said, "Is the restroom down the hall?"
Jackie answered, "Yeah. Just down that way." The girls watched him walk out of the doorway, listened to his footsteps in the hall, and heard the bathroom door close. Then, Jackie said, "Oh shit, you think he heard us?"
Trish shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know." They both moved from the bedroom to the living room, both carrying more blankets, pillows and sheets. Jackie started setting up the larger couch as a makeshift bed. She stacked the pillows against the armrest, and laid down the blanket. Then, Jackie reached for the blanket that Trish was holding. She tucked in the sides, and then pulled down the other blanket. "He should be comfortable."
They both sat down on the couch. Trish noticed their luggage near the front door. In-ho must have brought them in and left them there before going to the restroom. He was really super nice, doing things like that.
Jackie asked, "Do you want first shower in the morning?"
"Actually, I usually shower at night." Trish eased off the end of the cushion.
"Do you think In-ho likes morning or evening showers?" Jackie's smile widened to an evil grin.
"I don't know. You'll have to ask him." Trish felt a bit awkward joking about him like that. Like he was an object. She knew she was getting to know him. He was more than just the K-pop star exterior. He was In-ho. A little silly and joking at times. But serious in a second. Like hot and cold. Did she already know that much about him? Was this how you thought about a friend?
Just then, In-ho walked into the room. "No, I don't need a shower in the morning. I'll wait until we get to San Francisco tomorrow."
You could see the disappointment in Jackie's face. "Well, okay. We made up the couch for you. Let me know if you need anything else for out here."
Jackie got up, motioning to him to have a seat. She stood by the couch. "If you want Trish, I'll show you where everything is for a shower."
Trish answered with a nod, grabbed her bag, and they both walked towards the kitchen, nearing the hallway. Jackie whispered, "Struck down. Denied. But at least the view is enjoyable." She turned, looking down the hall at In-ho and smiled. He seemed to be adjusting the blankets, and sliding underneath one.
Trish said, "I'll put my stuff in the bedroom first." Jackie nodded, left the bedroom, and Trish heard the water running in the shower a few moments later. After placing her bag in the bedroom, Trish walked to the bathroom.
When Trish went in, Jackie was putting her hand under the water. "You got to let it run a little before the hot water starts." She pointed to the towels in the bathroom cabinet. "There are some clean ones. And you can use the liquid soap." She lowered her voice. "I'll see if In-ho needs some more wine."
"It's been a long day, Jackie." She tried to keep the irritation out of her voice. "I need to get him to the City in one piece. So, not too much wine."
"Hey, you can't beat a girl for trying. I don't work with him." She winked at Trish.
Dread started in Trish's center. She figured she needed to get this shower over with to make sure nothing happened to embarrass anyone. Or was she just worried that In-ho and Jackie would try hooking up. Would she be jealous if they did?
She tried to brush the thought from her mind. Her feelings were already too muddled. She didn't know what to make out of any of what had happened. Except that she wanted In-ho to kiss her again. Maybe something else. And that was probably not going to happen now. She was just going to be his friend, help him with this reunion thing, and head back to LA.
She got undressed, heading into the shower. But her thoughts kept swirling in her mind. Maybe if she kept telling herself that, she'll be able to stop feeling this way. Her heart was racing, just thinking that Jackie might be trying something. Why did that bother her? It shouldn't. Maybe he wanted to meet new girls or something. But somehow he didn't seem like he met people a lot, and that's why she thought it would be a good idea to bring him here. Meet some people, interact. Well, maybe she had to let him have that chance. Even if Jackie continued to hit on him, it didn't mean he'd do something. He was too much a gentlemen it seemed.
That seemed to settle her fluttering stomach. She knew In-ho was a big boy. Man, really. But knowing that Jackie might be going after him still irritated her. She took a deep breath. If she got this shower over with fast, she could get back in the living room and it might stop Jackie's tactics.
She got out, and was toweling off, when she heard a knock at the door.
"Hey Trish." It was Jackie's voice. "You almost done?"
"Yeah." The door opened before she could stop it. Trish wrapped the towel around herself. Jackie came in and squatted on the toilet. "God, I haven't drank this much in a while. Sorry, had to break the seal." A trickle splashed into the porcelain bowl.
Trish said, "No prob. I understand."
Jackie finished, flushed, and stood to adjust herself. "Hurry up. We've put in another series that is one of my favorites. I want you to see it." Jackie headed out the door before Trish could answer. What was Jackie up to?
Trish finished toweling off, put on her sweats and t-shirt she'd brought in the bathroom for sleeping in, and moved out to the living room. On the screen, was In-ho, talking to a gorgeous Korean girl, looking hurt and discouraged. The subtitles revealed the meaning of the Korean in English. The actress was basically telling his character that she didn't feel anything for him anymore.
Trish froze. Could Jackie figure out the man on the couch was the same man on the screen? She looked over to In-ho, who was watching the screen, and looking sideways at Jackie. He had a slight smile on his face, like he was waiting for something to happen. The rest of his body seemed tense. The only sound was the Korean in the room from the TV. The screen was definitely playing back In-ho's voice.
All of a sudden, the screen froze. Jackie's eyes got wide and bright. "Holy crap, are you Woo In-ho?" Jackie said holding the remote. She sat up and looked right at him. "I haven't put the connection together until now. I wasn't sure until I heard the voice on the screen. I never forget a face. The voice just confirms it."
In-ho licked his lips. He didn't say a word, but his smile grew bigger.
Jackie leaned forward. "So, are you him?"
