Skygrain Market Administrator

Nov 25, 2025

The night passed slowly for Alden He remained in the Administration Hall long after Tarin and the scouts returned Their faces were windburned and tired but alive Mira checked each of them for signs of vortex exposure before sending them to rest Dax dismissed the guards and closed the north deck for the remainder of the night The corridor had been drawn but its structure was fragile and no one wanted unnecessary ships drifting near it until the shaping team took over

Alden stood at the tall windows watching the sky lighten from midnight blue to pale gray The first thin line of dawn touched the edge of the archipelago illuminating the drifting islands in soft silver It gave the world a quiet sacred feeling A brief moment when the air was still enough to make people forget the constant movement around them

He did not forget The map table glowed behind him showing the corridor line pulsing steadily like a faint heartbeat The anchors were reacting to the slow shifting of the early morning currents The line bent slightly but held The shaping team would arrive any minute to settle the mana threads and turn the temporary corridor into a legal recognized route

Mira approached rubbing her eyes from lack of sleep The shaping crew is on their way They have the large anchors the stabilizers and the mana rings This should hold if the sky stays calm

If Alden had learned anything in his years managing Skygrain Market it was that the sky never stayed calm for long But for the moment he allowed himself to hope

He went out onto the balcony The shaping crew boarded a wide platform vessel built for slow precise maneuvers The vessel carried heavy anchor crystals aligned along metal rails At the center of the platform a circle of shapers stood ready their hands glowing with soft light They wore hooded cloaks to protect against mana surges and the early dawn breeze made their cloaks ripple like flags

Tarin joined Alden on the balcony He looked much better than he had hours before though the wind shaping from the night mission still lingered on his clothes The sky is quieter now he said It should be a clean shaping run

Alden nodded It needs to be If Cloudport catches wind of this corridor before we fully register the route they may try to contest it

Tarin gave a half smile They cannot contest what is already built And it is nearly built

The shaping vessel drifted toward the first anchor The shapers stepped forward and extended their hands Light moved from their palms to the anchor forming a glowing ring around it The ring expanded twisted and locked onto the anchor like a magnet catching a metal shard The air rippled around the process soft waves trembling outward like ripples in water

Alden watched carefully If the shapers made even one mistake the corridor could collapse or worse destabilize the nearby currents forcing the route team to begin again The vessel moved to the second marker repeating the process The sky responded with gentle shifts letting the shaping settle smoothly

Mira monitored the readings from the hall Her voice echoed faintly from behind Alden The pressure is stable Everything is moving correctly

Alden felt tension slide from his shoulders slowly like sand falling from a tilted bowl The shaping continued across the third and fourth markers The corridor brightened on the map glowing a deep gold instead of faint white The fifth marker the crucial one was reached last The shaping crew formed a circle lifting their hands in a synchronized motion The air trembled A low hum filled the sky like distant thunder

The corridor line snapped into alignment It glowed bright and clear A stable path spanning the distance between Starcrest Ridge and Lowwind Cradle A direct line to Mistvine Island

Alden exhaled A quiet relieved breath Skygrain Market now held control over a fresh route A new artery through the sky economy

The shaping vessel returned and the shapers disembarked leaving behind a glowing ribbon path stretching across the morning air The team went into the hall to finalize paperwork and upload the route into the official registry within the hour Once uploaded no rival city would claim it The corridor would be a Skygrain first route legally protected recognized by the continental trade council

As Alden turned to go back inside a courier sprinted up the ramp breathless He held a crystal message shard The seal on it was unmistakable Cloudport’s emblem carved into blue stone

Alden took the shard The surface glowed activating the message A smooth calm voice filled the balcony It was Varek Clovestone leader of the Cloudport Consortium

Administrator Crowford congratulations I hear you have been busy this evening We at Cloudport admire initiative I hope your new corridor serves you well After all the sky favors those who act boldly Does it not

Alden recognized the tone immediately Polite on the surface sharp underneath A confirmation Cloudport already knew their move Somehow they always learned too fast But Varek’s message did not sound threatened It sounded amused That troubled Alden more than any direct challenge

Alden turned to Mira Did we broadcast anything publicly after the shaping

She shook her head No one outside Skygrain knows the route exists yet Unless someone watched us from distance

Tarin frowned Cloudport must have scouts near our borders They monitor everything

Alden held the shard by his side Cloudport knew They always acted fast when the wind changed He knew their next move would follow soon Perhaps a direct push Perhaps something quieter

Still the new corridor existed Skygrain had taken the first step in protecting its supply chain and guiding trade traffic before Cloudport could twist it The morning sun rose higher turning the corridor’s mana lines into a shimmering arch across the sky A visible mark of Skygrain’s determination

Alden stood with his team surrounding him The shaping crew finished their formal report The corridor’s legal registry crystal rested on the map table waiting for his final signature He placed his hand on the crystal It flashed gold finalizing the registration

Skygrain Market had officially expanded the sky routes

Whatever Cloudport did next he was ready to answer
