The lieutenant general threw Andri into his office and slammed the door shut behind him.
Andri asked, “What do you want, Koda? I thought the military was done with me after you killed my dad.”
“Not until you proved that you shouldn’t be forgotten. What was your motive for creating the Spiders?”
Andri looked Koda dead in the eye as he said, “To kill Bugs.”
“It wasn’t for vengeance?”
“No,” Andri said bluntly.
“So you don’t feel upset or anything about what I did, or what your father did to you?”
Andri crossed his arms and said, “I don’t care. Can I go now?”
Koda wandered to his desk and picked up a pen.
“What’s the rush?”
Andri’s gaze focused on a spot on the ground ahead of Koda’s desk and he felt his skin shutter.
“I just want to leave. You’re done with me, right?”
“You seem uncomfortable Andri, are you alright? Could it be that you actually do care about your dad?”
Andri screamed, “I do not!”
Koda put down the pen and stared at Andri. His face was contorted with rage, and for some reason Koda felt he was starting to lose his composure.
“You can kill my father a hundred more times right here, I don’t give a crap!”
“Hm?”
Koda walked to Andri’s side and put a hand on his shoulder. He asked darkly, “So what’s the deal with the Eryi kid?”
Andri’s eyes went wide and he glared death into Koda, but it did little to scare him.
“There is no deal.”
“Don’t kid me, Andri. I know you’re up to something. It’s not like you to keep those around you alive, especially those who get on your nerves. I can tell by the way you look at him, that you see him as disposable.”
Andri only stared at Koda, and Koda let him go.
“Fine, you can leave. Do whatever you want, I owe you that much.”
Andri reached for the door knob, but before he left, he stated, “Eryi is worth more to me than any of you, and I won’t have anyone controlling him but me.”
The door slammed behind him and Koda sat in silence. He looked to a spot before his desk and sighed.
“You sure created a monster, didn’t you, old friend?”
As Andri walked through the halls he felt a racing in his heart, it thumped and thumped, ripping through his skin. Memories flashed back at him like a light switch turning off and on. His fathers dying eyes, the nothingness in Koda’s expression, his father’s dying words.
“I’m sorry.”
Andri nearly collapsed at those words, because as soon as they had come up from the shadows of his mind, they hit as hard as a bomb. He put his hand against the wall for safety, and then he saw that his hand had not landed on a wall, but on a window. This was the room that Alba and Lumi had awoken in earlier and fought against the mutant. Inside, Alba, Lumi, and Eryi were standing before Freya. Freya was explaining something, but neither Lumi nor Eryi were paying attention. Eryi was fiddling with his hands, and Lumi kept on interrupting Freya.
“I will bring in weapons for you all, and I have a line up of five mutants for you all to fight against,” Freya said before she was interrupted by Lumi groaning with annoyance.
“Just let me go make weapons!”
Freya ignored her, as this was the tenth time this had happened.
“You have ten minutes to get settled and make your plans. I’ll give you a hint as to what mutant it will be… If you stop trying to talk over me Lumi!”
Lumi yelled, “If you let me go make weapons then I’ll stop! But clearly you’re just asking me to continue.”
Freya declared, “No hint then!”
Freya stomped out of the room and the door locked from behind her.
“Well, way to go, Lumi,” Alba said with a scoff. “Now you got nothing that you wanted and doomed us as well.”
Freya came up to Andri and said, “Get in there as well.”
Andri smiled and said, “Nice ring.”
Freya watched as Andri walked into the room and the door locked behind him with a click. She felt her heart drop down low, and Andri’s dark empty eyes stained a picture within her mind. She subconsciously rubbed her ring as she walked away. Eryi lifted his head swiftly and a smile grew on his lips, and Alba stated, “There he is.”
Andri waved with a smile and said, “Hi everyone!”
Lumi asked with crossed arms, “So, did the lieutenant guy put you through the wringer?”
“No,” Andri said with a pause. “He just asked me some stupid questions and let me leave. Honestly, it seems he was trying to show his authority or something. Not like it worked.”
Eryi asked softly, “Show his authority?”
Andri rolled his eyes and said, “That old man was really trying to scare me. He must have forgotten that I don’t give a crap.”
“Um, does he know you?” Eryi asked.
Andri shot Eryi a glare, telling him that he asked too much.
Alba explained, “Freya said she’s going to deliver weapons and have us fight against five mutants.”
Andri hummed and stated, “Should be easy.”
The way he said that, with such honesty, it truly felt like he meant exactly that. Memories of their fight with the mutant played in Lumi and Alba’s minds, and they both internally cried out, “What is he talking about?”
Suddenly a compartment on the side of a wall popped out and the group all gathered around it. Inside were guns and daggers, but there wasn’t enough for them to have two of each. There were two guns, and two daggers.
Alba asked, “What do we do?”
Lumi butted in and grabbed a gun.
“I want this one!”
Alba shot Lumi a judgmental glare, and he saw both Andri and Eryi standing by without saying anything.
“Andri? Which one do you want?”
Andri stepped forward and grabbed a gun, and said with a smile, “I was thinking maybe I would be nice and let you have a gun, but I changed my mind, haha!”
Alba thought of punching Andri right then and there, but he knew that he might die if he did so. Eryi and Alba looked at their daggers, and Alba mumbled, “Today is going to be the day that I die.”
Alba said, “We should make a plan. Lumi, you have a sniper, so you should go to the highest level.
Lumi yelled, “You don’t control me!”
A silence filled the room and then Lumi laughed and walked away saying, “Just kidding, just kidding! You all take things way too seriously.”
Alba couldn’t help but roll his eyes at her joke, but then he turned to Andri and Eryi. He found he couldn’t say a word to direct Andri, so he said, “Eryi, you should stay with me.”
Eryi looked at Andri, and Andri nodded his head.
“Go with him.”
Eryi hesitantly went to Alba, and then a blaring alarm sounded. Slowly a cage descended from an opening in the roof, and Lumi who was running up the stairs made eye contact with the bug. Its shield-shaped head sent shivers down Lumi’s skin, as she read about this bug in books.
“It’s an Asian giant hornet!”
