As I walked toward the altar, my heart pounded loudly—with each step, I felt as if something incomprehensible was staring at me.
Eventually, I reached the nun. The moment I looked into her eyes, she whispered to me in a soothing yet deeply suspicious tone.
“Ohh, I’ve finally found you…” (Nun)
Instinctively, I stepped back—two steps—startled, unable to understand what she meant by finding me.
Slowly, I tried to regain my composure and stepped forward again so I wouldn’t draw unnecessary attention from my classmates.
With a serious tone, I asked what she meant by those strange words I couldn’t comprehend.
“What do you mean by ‘finding me’? I don’t understand what you’re talking about…”
Right after I said that, the nun grabbed my left hand and pressed it against a crystal sphere glowing bluish-white.
My heart wouldn’t stop racing—not because I had fallen in love, but because of the terror of what might happen in this unfamiliar world.
At one point, I wondered, “Do my classmates not care for their own lives, or is something clouding their sanity?”
From the corner of my eye, I looked at my classmates.
I had no idea what was happening, but some of them… their forms had changed into grotesque, deformed shapes.
“No… this is just an illusion!”
A fraction of a second later, I looked up at the nun holding me—and to my horror, she had transformed into a woman with black crocodile-like scales, glowing red eyes, and several horns jutting out from the sides of her eyes.
“Ahhhhh—no!! …Am I going insane!?”
I screamed at the top of my lungs.
But the grand cathedral and my classmates vanished in an instant—
—and I found myself inside the body of a mysterious man I didn’t recognize.
---
“What happened… why are my memories so blurry…”
I rubbed my head, trying to recall anything, but all I could remember was my name, Wise Lurack, and a few names of my neighbors.
That was all.
When I stood up, the face I saw in the mirror felt strange—no… there weren’t even words to describe this unfamiliarity.
I grabbed the white shirt hanging nearby and walked out of the room I had apparently been sleeping in.
As I walked down the hallway, several framed photos hung on the wall—showing me together with a woman.
Was she my wife? My sister? …I couldn’t remember.
When I stepped out of the small house I was living in, sunlight gently brushed my skin.
“So warm…”
As I stood there, enjoying the warmth, someone suddenly greeted me cheerfully.
I turned toward the voice and saw a cat-eared woman with a long tail—clearly some kind of demi-human.
She was Miss Folcaf.
“Ahh, Mr. Wise, are you feeling better?—Oh, by the way, have you heard? The Kingdom of Kindes has welcomed heroes from another world. Apparently, many heroes were summoned this time~” (Folcaf)
I could only stand silently at the surprising news, but with a polite smile, I nodded at Miss Folcaf.
“Ahh… yes. I just hope the best for the Kingdom of Kindes…”
Just as I was about to head back inside, I heard loud cheers from the villagers announcing that the summoned heroes were performing an introductory ritual in the capital.
“Ahh, that must be the procession… Are you going too, Mr. Wise!?” (Folcaf)
Hearing that, I felt a slight curiosity toward those heroes.
But before I could answer, Miss Folcaf grabbed my hand with excitement.
“No need to answer, Mr. Wise—come on! Let’s go see the ones who will change the fate of the Kingdom of Kindes~” (Folcaf)
Strangely, I felt calmer seeing Miss Folcaf’s warm smile.
The haziness in my memories slowly faded as I watched her cheerful expression—someone I could barely remember.
