The Vinter

Despondency

Despondency

Dec 01, 2025

Having finished discussing the plan, which consisted of two stages, namely, to get there and not to die.

- Worw, Hil'tse, Ludwig, and Helm you will go behind me and Vinter, and then we will split to the sides and attack these bastards at the same time.

As soon as Zertera finished, everyone shouted loudly and moved forward towards Eining, which was in the middle of a rather dense forest, which gave the team little protection from instant death at the hands of a skilled archer, but for the Elven mages, this forest was an almost unlimited resource.

However, even knowing this, no one doubted Zertera's actions, except for a few of the six. However, they were ignored because it would only slow them down, and then they would not even reach the walls of Eining, which still had to be overcome.

But Vinter, who still didn't understand why they were here at all and why they were the only ones going, asked Zertera a little awkwardly.

- Ahem, Master, I've been wanting to ask you for a long time... why the hell are we with the Elves and the bloody Crown?

- Grrr so Hilshes didn't tell you anything else before he sent you here?

- No.

- Then listen. We're here because the Order is secretly acting on the orders of the Crown, because the Crown doesn't want to get its hands dirty, so we're acting as mercenaries.

Then Zertera told us that they were here to capture the last stronghold of the Elves who went against the current Elven King who wanted to take full control of the forest.

As Zertera's group set off, the Elf who had sent them on this mission returned to the prince who was slumped over on his throne in his tent.

- My lord, the dirty bastards have left. But let me ask you one thing.

- For a good job, I'll let you ask me, but only this once.

With a slight smile on his face, the prince looked at the Elf and leaned on the back of his silver throne, waiting for the question.

- Why are we sending such a magical group of humans on such an important mission?

- Oh my friend, who said they would be alone?

- I just thought that if they were going to go, they would be there.

- Well, thinking is clearly not your thing, but to make your little brain feel a little euphoric from such important knowledge, I'll tell you.

He stood up and tapped him lightly on the forehead with the tip of his finger and continued to smile.

- These “humans”, as you put it, are only a distraction, for why should my army get their hands dirty with that dirt when they can do it, besides, their own King left them no choice.

Rising, the prince straightened his back and took a few steps towards the exit of the tent.

- As for our goals, everything is simple, the forest itself is our goal, and that dirty blood prevents ‘Him’ from being born.

****

Reaching the entrance to the forest, Helm, without even getting off his horse, took out several Elven scouts hiding in the tree crowns, at the same moment Zertera ordered the cancellation of the plan and ordered a new one about a quick breakthrough to the walls.

- Worw, Hil'tse, Ludwig, Helm! Take your men and spread out so as not to slow each other down in this forest!

Having finished, he jumped down from his horse at full speed and ran into the forest without delay, while Vinter had to slow down and run to the master, who had already started fighting with the Elves in the middle of the forest.

- Damn it! They could have waited for me!

Zertera did not pay attention to his student's cry, but the Elves did, and they paid for it by wasting their lives, as Zertera killed them in the same moment.

- Thank you and move faster!

- I'm sorry I'm not on the same level as you, master!

Although they had a short dialogue, they kept running as fast as they could, but in an instant a group of 6 Elves jumped down from above, 2 of them aimed at Vinter and the rest at Zertera.

- Grrr Vinter don't stay with them!

At the same time, Vinter successfully blocked a sudden attack from an Elf, which he immediately counterattacked and delivered a stabbing blow that clearly entered the Elf's neck, from which a large amount of blood began to flow in an instant, the second Elf, although he tried to prevent it, Zertera finished him off faster.

- ...We'll talk about the process later.

Zertera said in a quiet and calm voice and finished off the Elf that his student had wounded, and with that they moved on, and the closer they got, the more dead Elves appeared on their way, and it was clear from the wounds that it was the work of Zertera's men.

After a few more minutes of running, they heard the sounds of battle and familiar voices shouting at each other. When they got even closer, they noticed that the four were being pinned against the walls of Eining.

- Ooooh Zertera!

Hil'tse shouted happily as he covered Worw's back and noticed Zertera and Vinter crawling behind him, while Helm covered Hil'tse from the archer who was about to take a shot, and Ludwig used his swords to climb the wall of Eining, which was covered with various roots.

Zertera looked at Vinter exclaimed.

- Remember your promise!

And then, using the magic of his armour that he had seen earlier, he made a sharp dash towards Helm, while at the same time Worw, assessing the situation and shouting with joy, also followed Ludwig.

- I'll be damned if you're not happy! Wait for Helm and me!

Not satisfied, Helm, who was still fighting off the attacking Elves, shouted at his comrades who were enjoying the scene. At the same time, Zertera approached and began to attack the Elves from behind.

Thus, he took some enemies on himself, allowing Helm and Hil'tse to deal with the Elves and start climbing the wall. Vinter was only halfway there, so although he wanted to help the master, he was too far away, but Zertera was at a level of skill that the number of enemies did not matter.

But this only applied when there were no Knights or advanced mages who could easily destroy an incredible number of enemies at once.

****

While Zertera and Helm were fighting on the ground, Worw and Ludwig had already gathered on top of the wall, where they started fighting against the Elven archers and several Elves with spears.

- You know, it wasn't so bad from the bottom.

- Haha, was the great Worw really afraid of a few dozen archers and five spears?

- I wish I was! Never in my life.

With this shout, he threw one of his axes at the archer and rushed at the Elf with the spear, Ludwig laughed out loud, which scared the already frightened Elves who had never seen a bunch of crazy people chopping down dozens of their brothers and sisters.

And when he was done, he rushed at the Elf with a spear, which he used to hide from the archers. Having deflected the first attack of the spear with his short sword, he slipped to its owner and stabbed him in the neck, and without drawing his sword he pushed the Elf in front of the archers.

At the same time, Worw grabbed the shaft of the Elven spear and pulled it towards him, causing its owner to fall face first to the ground, and without hesitation Worw threw his other axe at him, which crushed the Elven skull with a crunch.

Then he twisted his spear and pointed it at the 2 Elves with spears, who lost 3 men in an instant.

- Fuck, Ludwig, leave me some archers!

While Worw was dealing with the spears, Ludwig was throwing the Elven corpse from hand to defend himself from the arrows that were stuck in the corpse, and at the same time he managed to kill those who did not have time to react to the attack or those who eventually ran out of arrows.

After some time of this battle, a spear flew from Ludwig's side and hit the Elven head.

- Hey! I almost got him!

At the same time, he heard a rough laugh behind him and the sound of an axe being pulled out of the Elf's body.

- I told you to leave me some!

Having finished with the spears, Worw joined in the killing of the archers, who were less than a dozen at that moment.

- I left it, look how many are running from your side!

Turning his head to the side, Worw noticed about 15 Elves with bows running from the opposite side of Eining's wall, and while he was looking they had already aimed and almost launched their arrows into flight.

- You know, I was thinking I'd leave the archers to you!

With that, he began to descend into the middle of the Eining, leaving Ludwig alone with a bunch of archers.

- You bloody bastard!

Shouting, he threw the corpse at the elves in front of him and went after Worw, who started laughing out loud. Downstairs, Zertera successfully dealt with the enemies and together with Helm and Hil'tse watched Vinter run towards them.

- Without you, Vinter, we wouldn't have made it!

- Haha and Helm, we couldn't have done it without our valiant Vinter.

Zertera laughed a little too, but quickly stopped and hit the fools on the head, because after all, Vinter was his student and as a master he could not ignore such things.

- Khe don't listen to them!

- Don't worry master, I never listened to those fools.

Zertera laughed again, and Helm and Hil'tse glared at him, but Zertera distracted them by saying that the archers who had come for Ludwig and Worw were already over them.

- The damned Elves never give us a moment's respite!

- We're storming them, of course they won't give us a break!

Then Zertera ordered us to scatter and look for a way to get to the top, so he and Vinterwill go one way, and they will go the other.

- And Hil'tse, if you find this dibs first...

He was interrupted in mid-sentence by an arrow that almost hit Vinter, but Hil'tse managed to block it with his shield.

- You'll thank me later!

At that moment, Vinterwas pulled by the arm and forced to run, and the other two did the same, so now they were separated again, but now they were looking for a way to get inside.

- Master, I'll find a way out, you jump in and help them,

- Do you realise you're literally telling me to leave you?

- Yes! And I'm not too young to worry about me any more.

- Grrr, Okay, but just try to die, and I'll come back and kill you again myself!

Having finished, Zertera abruptly stopped and ran towards the wall, which he then jumped on without any difficulty, while Vinter continued to run along the wall in search of a safe place to quickly gather himself.

****

After running for a while, he noticed an open gate and heard the sounds of a battle, and running closer, he noticed a wounded Worw fighting off the Elves with spears.

- Worw! Bring them here!

He accelerated a little and began to run towards Worv, who was not very happy to see Vinter, because he had enough problems. However, Vinter was just approaching and was already preparing to attack the Elves.

Taking out the stolen Elven sword, he put his hands out to the side and shouted, attracting the attention of several Elves and giving Worw a better chance of survival. The Elves prepared for Vinter's attack and pointed their spears at him, stopping him.

However, he was not confused and jumped back, and quickly ran back, the elves in turn ran after him. Thanks to Vinter, Worw was able to run into the forest where the elves' spears were only in the way, so he quickly dealt with them.

Although Vinter didn't know how to fight with a spear, he knew that the local forest was too dense to fight with one, so he did the same as Worw. He took a little longer and was not as clumsy, but he dealt with the pursuers and then ran to Worw to help.

After a few long seconds he finally reached Worw, who was sitting on top of the elven corpses, clutching his stomach wound.

- He-he, I didn't think I'd have to be rescued by a shit like you Vinter...

He looked at Vinter, who had already reached into his bag for the bottles of potions he had brought with him. Taking one, he threw it to Worw and shouted in a commanding tone.

- Drink it, or I'll pour it into you!

And without waiting for Worw to act, he ran to the gate to find the master and help the others, even though he knew that he was more of a hindrance than a help, but neither his mind nor his heart allowed him to leave Zertera.

But as soon as Vinter's silhouette disappeared, a dozen Elves hiding in the crowns of the dense forest rushed at the wounded and unarmed Worw, and without shouting or unnecessary actions finished him off, and at the same time slow clapping of hands came from the forest, the owner of which was enjoying this action.

Meanwhile, Zertera found Ludwig running along the wall, away from the elven mages, who, although they did not have much power, had no problem killing one person.

- Ludwig! Over here!

Hearing Zertera's shout, he ran in his direction, and Zertera, on the contrary, ran in his direction, and when they crossed paths, he ordered him to find Vinter the others while he dealt with the magicians, although Ludwig tried to argue, but the shouting of the approaching magicians did not give him much choice, so he continued to run,

And Helm and Hil'ts had just started to climb the wall, as they had been chased by the bunch of archers on top of them all this time.

- Ugh! I thought those bastards would never end.

- Be glad you had enough arrows, or we would have kept running around the walls.

When they got out, they saw Vinter running on one side and Ludwig on the other, and as if to make matters worse, a bunch of angry Elves were running after them.

- I'm going to Ludwig!

- I'm going to Ludwig!

They shouted at the same time and looked at each other and cursed.

- Fuck! Okay, I'll go to Vinter you go to Ludwig.

- Hurray! And don't die over there.

They punched each other and ran away, and after a while they reached Ludwig and Vinter almost simultaneously.

- Vinter, bring them here!

Hearing Hil'tse shout, he rushed towards him without hesitation, hoping for help, as he could not cope with a dozen armed Elves with spears and several bows.

Meanwhile, Helm used his bow to deflect the spear attacks, and as soon as he found an arrow that was flying at him, he was glad because he could shoot back because he had spent all his ammo on the way to Ludwig.

- Ludwig, you bitch, find me some arrows if you want to live!

- Grrr, I'm going to get rid of the fucking spears and find you some fucking arrows!

Using his swords, Ludwig managed to repel the attacks, but he could do nothing against the wall of Elven spears, so all he could do was fight back and at the same time protect Helm who was picking up arrows.

At one point, however, these two battles were interrupted by an incredible noise, followed by a huge root chasing Zertera, who was trying to fight back and at the same time trying to escape along the wall he had just gathered on a few minutes earlier.
