a side street parking spot. Tomás knew what he had to do. He had to book it and keep his suit as dry as possible. After parking, he took a deep breath.
“It’s now or never,” he stated, placing the suit underneath his uniform jacket. Maybe his past years of playing soccer would help him sprint. With a quick hop over the sidewalk puddle, he ran with his arms clutching his suit tucked underneath his jacket. He carefully darted around the few souls who braved the rain and avoided any large puddles he could spot. His shoes might be soaked for the dance, but he wouldn’t let his suit get a splash. After ascending the stairs like a boxer, he made it to the front entrance of Nina’s school. Tomás looked down at his watch again. 6:20. He was going to make it in the nick of time.
Nina nonchalantly looked at the heart-shaped sugar cookies, chocolates, and bright red punch. Most of the dads had already gotten to the dance. She didn’t want to look up from the table and be disappointed.
“So, when is the special dance going to happen?” an evil voice cackled. Preston had come over just to rub it in.
“Soon! He’s going to be here! I- “
“Nina!”
Her dad was standing at the gym entrance. He made it! Nina was too excited to speak.
“Wait, you guys are wearing matching outfits too?!” cried Preston in disbelief. But Nina didn’t hear her. She was already running towards her dad.
