Attack The Future

The Image of a Ghost

The Image of a Ghost

Dec 03, 2025

The next morning, Levi tried to act normal. He went through training, walked the halls, exchanged nods with soldiers. But people noticed something. They couldn’t quite place it.

His eyes… weren’t they a different color yesterday?

But no one questioned it. Supernaturals always changed in strange ways. They shrugged it off.

Levi walked outside toward the courtyard, absently adjusting the collar around his neck. His mind kept replaying the memories that had returned — Steve, Jesabell, the fire, the screams, his childhood… everything.

He turned a corner—

—and almost bumped straight into someone.

A man with black hair. Calm eyes. The familiar jawline Levi remembered from his childhood.

Steve.

Levi froze.
His breath caught.
And before he could stop himself, he whispered:

“Dad…”

Lucy, Steve’s assistant, blinked beside him.
“What was that?” Steve asked, raising an eyebrow.

“N-Nothing,” Levi muttered quickly, looking down.

Steve continued walking, speaking to Lucy about some upcoming board meeting. But Lucy’s eyes weren’t following the words. She stared back at Levi.

His hair… his eyes… he looks exactly like Steve did at his age… but that’s impossible… right?

A chill ran down her spine, but she stayed quiet. This wasn’t the place.

Steve Jeyser, the Power Behind the World

Word spread quietly through the team that Steve had visited the base again. Even among soldiers, his name carried weight.

He wasn’t just rich — he was the owner of the most successful tech company on the planet, the company that supplied the government with:

  • Anti-supernatural weapons

  • Military armor

  • Tracking systems

  • City protection grids

Everything.

To the world, Steve was a genius.
To Levi… he was the man who left him behind.

The Mission

Later that day, alarms echoed through the base.
A mission was issued: a size-shifting supernatural had appeared in a nearby abandoned city zone.

The team deployed immediately — Levi, Zeith, Mary, Vanessa, Cameron, and several soldiers.

The creature towered above buildings, its body expanding and contracting like it breathed through its entire form.

The battle was chaotic:

  • Zeith launched flashes of purple lightning

  • Mary coordinated movements, calm and sharp

  • Vanessa and several soldiers provided support fire

  • Cameron tried to get close to the creature’s legs

But the creature was unpredictable.
Its size changed too fast.
Its movements were too erratic.

At one point, Cameron got pinned.
The creature lunged—its massive jaws opening wide.

Cameron froze.

“CAMERON!” Levi shouted.

Without thinking, Levi sprinted straight at him.

He shoved Cameron out of the way—
—and the creature swallowed Levi instead.

The battlefield went silent.

Mary’s eyes widened.
Vanessa covered her mouth.
Even the soldiers whispered:

“Levi…?”

Cameron’s chest tightened. A burning anger surged through him.

“NO!” he yelled, dashing forward faster than he ever had. His movements blurred, almost super-human. He struck the creature again and again, but its size advantage overwhelmed him.

It threw Cameron aside.

The creature raised its arm to finish him—

—and then—

A beam of light pierced through its torso.

Slow. Bright. Controlled.

The creature staggered, collapsing slightly.

Then the wound tore open — and Levi stepped out, emerging through the torn surface, his body glowing faintly with green light.

Everyone stared.

Levi stood tall, calm, breathing steadily.
The green in his eyes shimmered like a storm ready to break.

Then he vanished.

A blur of speed tore across the battlefield.
Levi struck the creature with clean, precise blows — faster than the human eye could track.

His collar — the suppression device — snapped off and fell to the ground, sparks flying.

“Is that… Levi?” Mary whispered.

Zeith, for once, said words:
“…He awakened.”

With one final strike, Levi launched forward and delivered a powerful punch.
The creature hit the ground and didn’t rise again.

Silence.

Dozens of soldiers watched in awe.
Cameron stared, confused, shocked, and strangely proud.
Vanessa had tears of relief in her eyes.
Mary exhaled a slow breath she didn’t realize she was holding.

Levi stood at the center of the battlefield, green eyes glowing softly, surrounded by dust and light.

He didn’t smile.
He didn’t celebrate.

He simply looked up at the sky…

…knowing that the life he had lived until now — the lie — was finally cracking apart.
