LEGACY: Primordial Origins

Chapter 4 - Killing an imp

Chapter 4 - Killing an imp

Dec 07, 2025

Within Legacy there are 3 divisions made to fight, acquire, and support.

The first division is the Demon extermination.

Made to combat demons specifically, they are individuals who wield Divine Treasures who kill demons to protect the public.

The second division, the Intellect archivers.

Its sole purpose is to gather information, whether it's about demons, divine treasures, or the whereabouts of the place these demons are summoned.

Lastly, the Support division.

Where they evacuate, give first aid, and clean up the aftermath of the battle after the demon extermination division is done.

"That's all?" Alice asks, looking at Ira as they walk around the sidewalk, patrolling around the city of Ordi.

1 week after her interview, today is the day she starts her first mission.

The tapping sound the concrete ground can be heard with each step the people around them take.

Many sounds of people talking are overlapping, but Ira and Alice can still hear each other. As they walk side by side trying not to bump into the people.

"Well, that's just the demon extermination part. Legacy was originally a police department before the whole demons thing." Ira says, looking back at Alice.

"And to this day they still are a Police Department, just that new secret role unknown to society were added."

"Really, that's interesting. Mind telling me more?"

"Maybe another time, or you could ask Graim; he is, after all, the current head of Legacy."

Alice focuses on the road in front of her, avoiding people while sticking close to Ira. "I guess another time. So what's my first mission?"

"Killing an imp." Ira stops at an alleyway and looks at the ominous dark alley.

Alice stops as well, besides Ira. "What does an imp look like?"

"Picture a small gremlin or goblin with red skin with abnormally large ears and a tail as long as their legs with an arrow-like head at the end of their tail," as Ira explains to Alice while looking at their surroundings.

"That is VERY descriptive for describing an imp." Alice grips the small-like cylinder in her left hand.

"It's one of the common demons we slay. It's a hassle since there's quite the number of them, but don't worry, they're not that strong. Practically anyone can kill them."

Ira pats Alice's back and pushes her into the alley. Alice stumbles a little before gaining her footing.

"I'll be just behind you. I'm just here to supervise."

"Alright." Alice starts walking into the alley while Ira follows behind.

Looking around the dirty and smelly alley, she pinches her nose.

"(Ugh.)"

Staying alert. Somewhere around behind the dumpster in the alley, something can be heard.

"Krrr." Distorted growling echoes in the somewhat narrow alley.

As Alice is near the dumpster where the sound of the growling can be heard.

Suddenly something red jumps out from behind the dumpster.

The small cylinder-shaped thing in her hand expands and reveals that it is a compacted bowstaff with a spiked end, making it look like a spear in a way.

Using one hand, she stabs the imp in its small body straight in its torso.

Thanks to the somewhat narrow alleyway, she easily stabs the imp onto the ground without missing.

Slowly the imp disappears. Traces of colored black-looking ashes can be seen as the imp slowly disintegrates into the wind.

"Okay, where's the next place?" Alice looks at Ira with his hands crossed.

"An amateur at best, but still better than most. You're quick to respond to danger. But that's all for today. You can do whatever you want since you finished your task."

"Really?!" With a puzzled look, Alice's voice cracks as she says it.

She removes the pointed bowstaff from the ground, then returns it back into its compacted cylinder form.

"The mission Graim told me to give to you is to 'kill an imp,' meaning singular. Plus, it's your first week starting officially. You won't be given hard tasks yet."

"Also let's get out of here; it smells."

Alice is feeling a little disappointed but brushes off the feeling.

"Then let me accompany you; I have nothing to do and it's a Saturday anyway."

…….

Knock...knock...knock

"Come in."

Ira enters Graims office.

Closing the door behind him. Ira's cold and dark eyes stare into Graim's bright yellow eyes.

"This is quite the surprise; usually you don't visit me unless I call for you, and especially this late at night? So what's the occasion?" Graim rests his face on his hand.

"Just came to ask a question since I was curious," Ira says as he's leaning on the wall next to the door while crossing his hands.

Graim points to the chair in front of him. "Well, why don't you take a seat then?"

"No thanks, I'm comfortable enough here."

Graim kept a smile on his face. "Suit yourself then. Before you ask, how did her mission go?"

"Pretty fine."

"That's all? Nothing else to tell me?"

"Nothing interesting."

"Haha, alright then. Go ahead and ask your question."

"Why did you immediately give her that type of mission? She's still new to all this. She needs to adjust just like the other newbies."

"Completely different from the usual procedures. Are you trying to kill her on her first day?"

Graim answers, "Well, for starters, I personally tested her fighting skills myself. She took my punch and didn't bat an eye, which is why I assigned that mission to her rather than let her train with the new recruits, and plus, I asked you to supervise her, right? So all in all, everything is okay."

"Plus, you already know, right? I'm merely setting up the stage for her family reunion."

Ira is quietly thinking about why Graim is doing what he is saying.

"Even so... you have no say in Alice and her parents choice on why they did what they had to do."

"Just because he is away on a mission."

While keeping a smile on his face. The atmosphere around Graim continues to be a mystery.

"I'm leaving."

Graim looking a bit saddened. "Aw, really? But then again lately I have noticed you've been quite busy.... So I'll let you go back to whatever that is you're doing."

Ira stops leaning on the door and opens the door. Closing it from behind before he leaves as Graim watches Ira leave.

"....."

Graim still had his face resting on his hand. Closing his eyes for a few seconds before...

A large smirk appears on his face as he opens his eyes. The sclera of Graims eye turns from white to pitch black.

[You try to act like you care, but...you're being as hypocritical as me. But then again, you're not really being honest with yourself.]

[Avatar of the Primordial Dark.]

[Well whatever, the seeds have been sown now; all I need is to let it grow.]

Chaptee 4 end...
