The forest was dense, moonstriders jumped in and out of view at the smallest bit of sound and wisps hovered around small plants. Within the tangle of multicoloured trees there was a large clearing where a venue had been set up. To many obviously doing this in the forest was a bad idea, Somewhere out here is where getting attacked would be most common.
The venue wasn't one that was too big. It was normal of what they'd find in the city, a medium sized wooden stage just with added mana fueled lights, several seats all in front and an area behind the stage for both the performers and the high elves helping. Vywr walked around the venue. Once, twice, and again. He paused as he came up on Taru again who was standing in place, the same place he's been every time he walked by. He was reading a book and not at all looking around.
"If a fractal snuck up you would've been attacked." Vywr spoke.
"Not the first time." Taru flipped a page. "And probably not the last. I trust you to keep us safe though."
Vywr sighed deeply. "That is a bad habit…"
Taru moved himself inside once he and Vywr finished looking around, or more once Vywr finished looking around. The first seat stayed outside while Taru sat inside, Imani was also inside, she was reading through her own work.
"Honestly… why couldn't they just hold this in a city. I do admire such show of artistry especially when they want to make show of such unknown talent… but to drag all four of us and our assistants out of work- ugh… They had to know how dangerous this is." Imani shook her head.
Taru hummed. "uh huh…"
"He isn't listening." Jemm and Yoshi both said in unison while still doing their own things too. "We found that book in the archives two days ago and he's insisted on reading it in full ever since…" He shook his head.
"It's not important… I just am interested in what it's about." Taru mumbled.
Jemm crawled towards Taru to look and he immediately shoved his face away.
"Okay." Jemm moved back to where he was.
Imani laughed a bit and began gathering her things. "I heard this concert is gonna have a lot of different acts and music. Are you guys going to go watch them?"
"That sounds fun!" Jemm stood.
"Eh maybe…" Yoshi put her manaslate away.
Taru didn't say anything, he just flipped another page.
Vywr opened the door, looking between the four of them. He then walked up to Taru and grabbed his book, pulling it up. He read over it a moment before closing it. "Are you trying to get yourself exiled? File this when we get back." He tossed it aside. Taru made a face and got up. "Yeah yeah whatever… I read what I wanted anyways so I don't care. Is there a fractal out there is that why you've come in here harassing us- Hey-" Taru didn't fight him as he was dragged out of the room.
"Why do you enjoy making scenes like that in front of others?" Taru groaned. Vywr let him go and turned towards him, he was much more gentle and soft.
"Doing what? I needed your attention for a matter and I couldn't figure a way to get your attention effectively."
Taru facepalmed. "This exactly… you knew damn well the book i was reading wasn't forbidden so why would you say out loud that it was." He lowered his hand, making a really annoyed face.
"… I apologize. I panicked." Vywr bowed slightly. "Now back to the task at hand. I've set up patrolers all around the venue and the stronger patrolers I've left them in the city because I'm going to return with Imani. I want you to stay here with Yoshi and your assistant to watch this place. You're capable enough to handle this place yourself but I'm not capable enough to handle an entire city alone. Besides it'll be great training for Myi."
Taru sighed. "You talk so nicely… fine sure… Me and Jemm will stay here with the tree berserker while you two cover my area." He shook his head. "Just don't slack off okay? Or me and you are having a long talk when this is through." He stepped closer.
Vywr tilted his head to the side a bit. "Oh? Only if I slack off?"
Imani cleared her throat. "Vywr. We should be on our way yes?"
The two stepped apart very quickly and Vywr bowed to Taru before walking towards Imani, the two leaving.
Jemm and Yoshi both hummed. "So what was that?"
"Are you two close?"
"Yeah that was weird."
"Shut up we have work to do." Taru turned and began walking the other way, tying his hair up in a different way.
Not too long after everyone got in place many elves began to arrive. All carrying various instruments and other tools for performance. Yoshi tugged at Taru's sleeve and he leaned over. "Hm? Is something there?"
"No, that one looks like you though." She pointed at one of the performers standing at the check in still.
Taru physically cringed.
"Not all elves with red horns have to look like me." He sat back.
"She also has purple hair." Yoshi crossed her arms.
"Not all elves with purple hair have to look like me." He spoke again.
"So are we just gonna sit up here until a fractal shows up— If a fractal shows up that is." Jemm cut in. "Cause It would be nice to see the acts ourselves."
Taru hummed and laid his head back, turning his head side to side. "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… Yes. Besides we can hear and kinda see everything from up here so we won't be missing anything."
Yoshi and Jemm traded looks before Yoshi took out her manaslate. "You just don't like music."
"I literally did not say that." Taru sat up.
"Then let's go down and watch." her fingers tapped against the screen quickly.
"We're here to keep everyone safe not watch a show. Besides it's just music if you wanna wanna listen to some so bad then do it on your screen." He huffed.
"Not the same."
"Yes it is."
"Nuh uh."
"The hell do you mean- nope I'm not arguing with you."
The sound of cheering distracted them from their argument. Both Yoshi and Jemm moved towards the edge of where they were all sitting as the performers began their routines. It wasn't just singing and dancing, it was also magic shows and special acts which were all very cool. As the acts drew on and the sun got closer and closer to the horizon more and more began to show up.
"I thought it would begin to thin out as it went on but there's only more people… they still came despite how dangerous it is…" Jemm whistled.
"They probably have some big act saved at the end that everyone wants to see regardless of its potential dangers. That or the performer is some powerful elf." Yoshi went back to playing on her slate.
"More powerful than you?" Jemm leaned against the rail.
"That's not a high bar to clear." Yoshi mumbled.
"Okay… more powerful than him." He motioned to Taru.
The two stared at him, they kinda expected him to chime in by getting upset or saying something snarky but he didn't say anything at all, he actually just straight up ignored them. So they just went back to what they were doing. "Probably not… But it doesn't take much to defeat a small fractal." Yoshi finally replied.
The lights suddenly dimmed below before they burst back up and the cheering from before was even louder. Someone began singing and both Jemm and Yoshi stood, leaning over to see. "Oh shit it's MiMi, no wonder everyone is coming out here for her." Yoshi held her manaslate up to record and Jemm scooted closer to see. "Yeeaaah her voice is amazing… she's so siii-" He trailed off. Oh shit right the other day… he almost completely forgot that's Taru's sister… no wonder he doesn't care the two of them clearly hate each other.
Jemm slowly turned and looked at Taru who was still looking out off the other side of the point. "Stop looking at me." He called. "I don't care about whatever you're watching."
He most definitely cares he isn't hiding it well.
MiMi was one of the top idols of their current lunar era. While still considered new she made quite a name with her mysterious nature. Though looks aren't something everyone can escape, it's undeniable she looks exactly like the former and current third seats yet no one can confirm that since no one can find her real name, it's something she and her team go a great length to hide. So to everyone she's simply a very good looking lookalike to a high elf. Despite the connection her looks afford her since she's popular not only because of her looks she also is one of the few idols to sing not using a path which caused quite a stir with the other idols when she first started out, though now she's not alone. She's everything everyone wants from an idol plus a mysterious past.
MiMi sung in place as the others around her danced around, using their own abilities to make effects. Only once her verse finished did she join the others in their dance. Her purple hair was tied back in a ponytail and it danced around as she twirled and dipped. Once they finished what they heard was only the first part of the act someone suddenly climbed up there.
"Third and Fourth seat… and other guy… we've taken care of any fractals that have come close and the organizers said you guys can come down for a break before the next act. They're gonna turn down the lights to the normal level to not attract any beasts." He spoke.
Taru stared at the guy for a moment and while the others are used to Taru's blank brainless stare normal elves not usually around the high elf definitely are not, so he reeled back a bit. "Okay. We'll be down in a moment." Taru finally spoke.
The patroller let out a slow breath and began down the ladder, mumbling under his breath.
The three made their way down and the room they were in was basically the same as the one they had been given when all four of them were there. Some drinks and snacks had been laid out including a special cup with a note from Imani addressed specifically to Taru, which he took immediately and began eating.
"So do we just sit in here until we hear the music begin again?" Yoshi sat down.
"I think I left something on the roof… I'm gonna go get that." Jemm turned and walked out. He didn't actually leave anything, he just wanted to walk around. Sitting in one place all night is so boring even if there's a concert involved. As he walked around he found himself at the end of the hall… oh well time to turn back!
He turned around and two elves dressed in the same routine gear MiMi's dancers had were standing behind him. Ah…
"You were at that restaurant the other day when I went in to order. Now you're here snooping backstage…" It was MiMi? She stopped between them and raised her hand, shooing them away.
The two dancers bowed and walked away, she waited until their footsteps completely left the hall before she continued speaking. "Did my brother send you or something? I know they asked the high elves to be here but that coward didn't even show up so I'm assuming only a few of them are there. Regardless why are you here, that's no coincidence." She squinted.
[Are all of them like this… moons the rest of his family really must suck…]
Jemm's gaze wandered away for a moment before back to her. "Actually he is here he's just been preferably staying on the roof…" He spoke.
"What is he gonna jump or something?" She tilted her head up a bit.
Wow.
"Wow" He blinked "I… I mean no… I'm sure the ground would suffer more than him if he did— Aren't you siblings!?"
"Yeah and? Besides you still haven't answered my question!" She kicked the wall next to his head and he heard it crack. Hell he actually saw the crack when he looked over… Having really strong kicks must run in his family too! Unfortunately for him it looked like height is the only thing he didn't get…
Jemm put his hands up. "I'm his assistant! When we were at the shop that day it's cause we were visiting my sister she owns the shop!" He spoke quickly.
MiMi's gaze softened slightly… before she drove her heel into the wall more. "Then why is he avoiding being in the open huh? He embarrassed to be seen around me or something!?"
"Uh… I mean you two didn't seem to get along when you met in the shop… also if this is how you greet people I could guess one reason he's avoiding you…" Jemm mumbled. She tore her heel out and slammed her hand next to his face this time, moving close. "Look, I never needed for any of you to come here. If anything I'd love it if all of those glorified sacrifices stayed in the city instead of trying to play hero out here. However if Taru Is gonna come all the way out here and then pussy out by hiding from me on the roof then that just tells me all I need to know about anything he's thought about the past few years." She leaned close. "Let me guess, he's told you it was my fault huh? I was the one who did everything and all he did was-"
"Meiko, leave him out of this." Taru spoke. He was standing behind her with his arms crossed. "I haven't told him anything, all he knows is that we're related."
MiMi, or Meiko, stood straight and turned around. They truly were the spitting image of each other, the same crimson horns in the same shape, the same pink eyes with white irises, the same long purple hair with purple ends. The only difference being Taru's red cut ends and Meiko's towering height.
Meiko crossed her arms, walking up to him and mirroring him as she stared down at him. "Are you finally going to say it?"
"Say what?" Taru squinted.
Meiko closed her eyes before walking around him. "If you still don't know then there's no point hammering it in your head again since it just falls right back out. Cause then it wont be sincere, just go back to the roof."
