Dear Diary,
Forgive my silence. I was confined to my chamber for several days, and you were hidden away within my secret room, lest you be discovered. My punishment was earned, though I still believe my mother harsh.
During my confinement, Vidi visited me. She stood at the doorway, hands clasped, and said softly, “Sister, Mother sent me up, but I have nothing to do. Will you play with me?”
I regret my response. “No,” I told her. “Why would I play with you? I am nearly thirteen, and you are but nine. The difference is vast.”
She wept, and Mother soon followed. Though I was scolded fiercely, I was spared further punishment. Praise be to Purist for small mercies.
My birthday is but a month away. I am excited… I think.
