“Yep I drew the short straw. None of the people in the civil corps here is a night owl. You have magic powers or some shit to me since you’re a night owl. I’m running on like… pure caffeine.” He looked really sleepy.
“Yep, night owl and an early bird.” Granted it all came from my training as a member of the flying pigs but he didn’t need to know that, being called magical was actually pretty nice.
Arlo looked at me dumbfounded, clearly shocked someone could be both. His mental maybe face was hilarious! I wanted to laugh, but that'd be disrespectful.
“You are either blessed or cursed.” Arlo found the answer to the math problem of my sleep schedule.
I caved. I bursted out into my obnoxious loud laughter that came with the occasional snort. I was laughing for a solid 5 minutes till my sides began to hurt so I tried to calm down my laughter.
“What's so funny?” Arlo seemed a bit annoyed by me now.
“Your half asleep face is hilarious, and the pause you take to determine I’m ‘blessed or cursed.’” I answered as my laughter began to subside.
“I don’t know if I should be offended or not?” Arlo took another pause.
“Well I gotta take this wood back to my place, see you.” I picked up the logs I’d chopped and passed him, our shoulders brushed against each other’s. And I could determine I was taller than he was, by maybe just a few inches.
“See you.” Arlo told me as I passed.
When I got back to the cabin I placed the logs beside my house in a neat stack that a woodworker would be proud of then turned the wood to planks. After that I entered the cabin and fell into a restless sleep due to the chilly draft of night air flowing into the home.
Later in the morning, after I woke up, I began to collect stones and rocks just laying around outside. I decided to leave my axe at home because I didn’t want to scare people I pass or whom pass me, but had my kusarigama on me -I’m big on what ifs and enjoys having a weapon on me- just in case. I ended up taking most of the day to gather rocks, and near sundown I went home and made a pile(more like pyramid) of the rocks to organise them. Then crafted the pickaxe and the woodcutters axe.
I hadn’t seen Arlos today, and didn’t talk to anyone but myself -I really need a pet so I don’t seem crazy- as I thought outloud. By the time I’d finished crafting the tools it was too late for the builder’s guild building to be open so I decided to go for a run. I’d mapped out the path I took earlier today as I also explored the outskirts of town today. I hadn’t gone into town really yet but I wasn’t in a rush. I can take good care of myself and don’t need others support when it comes to survival.
I was running by the river near the cliff when I heard voices, I managed to identify one as Arlo but there were 2 more. They sounded in trouble -more like in a tough battle- so I acted on my instincts and sped up to go and help. But then I stoped. It was Arlo’s job, not mine anymore. I was gonna turn around and go back on my trail, but when I turned around there were monsters behind me, angry. The monsters were sea urchins.
