Loving Lorenzo

Chapter 1.2

Chapter 1.2

Jan 02, 2026

After working on sales for a while, Lorenzo logged off for the day and left his office to go look for Mercer, who had been gone ever since he took the papers back to his father. While walking through the halls of the main Corp. building he overheard his father and Mercer talking. He quietly stood by the door and listened in.

“Listened Mercer,” His father spoke up. “I need you to make some arrangements to clear Lorenzo’s schedule to be free for the two days before my birthday. I’m going to hold myself a birthday party and its very crucial for him to be there.”

“Oh alright, I’ll see what I can do Mr. Mathew,” Mercer said softly.

From the crack in the door, Lorenzo could see Mercer bow slightly and shake his father’s hand before leaving. As the door opened from the inside, Lorenzo quickly jumped back and pretended to be looking at his phone. Mercer walked out and noticed him.

“Mr. Mathew, what are you doing?” He spoke up curiously startling Lorenzo.

“Oh um hi,” Lorenzo fumbled with his phone and put it back in his pocket. “I was just looking for you- heh.”

“Oh I was just talking with your father, what did you need?”

“Nothing,” He shoved his hands in his back pocket. “I was just getting ready to head out for the day and didn’t know if you were also done, since you never came back to my office and all.”

“Oh no, I’m sorry. I got caught up in delivering files for people,” Mercer said guiltily. “I’m sorry for not being where I was supposed to,” He looked down.

“Don’t worry too much, as long as you’re doing something here then it is okay, just don’t wander off and get lost,” Lorenzo joked. “We don’t wand you wandering around like a lost puppy,” He don’t flirted. Though being the person he was, Mercer didn’t noticed and just shrugged it off.

“Don t worry that will never happen sir,” He smiled. “But thank you.”

“No worried,” Lorenzo swung his bag over his shoulder and started walking to the door. “Well I’m going to get going so you have a nice night.”

Mercer looked up and waves. “You too Mr. Mathew.”

A little while after Lorenzo left, Mercer did some cleaning up of the office before leaving as well. By that time most people in the building were already gone and it was normal for him to close up by himself on most nights.

Mercer stood by the door and rummaged through his bag before pulling out a black key. He turned the lights off and walked out. Taking a deep breath of the fresh night time city air. He locked up the building and headed for home.

Mercer lived in a small studio apartment with a tiny balcony and flowers, The rent wasn’t too bad for New York, but still high. But because of his high paying job, he always had enough for groceries, living expenses, and giving money to his parents, even keeping some aside for little wants and needs.

Lorenzo, lived in a grand penthouse. He had more than enough money to spare and spend. Often buying expensive cars and exotic fish (which he had a knack for). Though unlike Mercer’s apartment, Lorenzo’s was empty and bare, only containing needed containing and a giant fish tank. He didn’t have time to decorate or felt the need too, since work and his father’s company was everything. Mercer on the other hand lived his life and valued the small home; though Lorenzo did too. It was just that Mercer made home home and Lorenzo’s home was just a place to sleep and feel alone.

After hours for both men were totally different from one another. Mercer would spend his time going grocery shopping, lounging around, or doing menial things around the house. Where as Lorenzo would have constant phone calls from different companies or be stuck going late night sales. Some nights he would drink his time away with buddies but more or so alone.

Though tonight was the same for both. Once Mercer got home he showered and ate while watching TV. Lorenzo did the same and when it was time for sleep they both lay in bed thinking about how lonely their lives were, even through they lived in a big city. Though neither showed it, they both longed for a relationship, but at times it was hard because one many was gay and the other confused. They were close to their families but not as close with each other. Maybe if they were open with one another they could combine their loneliness and create a beautiful relationship. They were so physically close yet so far in knowing and understanding each other.
