Everyone knows what the human portion of San Francisco is like. A scenic coastal city with one of the most well known landmarks. But far less people know what the Crossbreed portions of San Francisco are like, either because of ignorance or fear or both. Most Crossbreeds who just want to be left alone and live their own life don’t come into the human portions unless they really have to. There’s no need to. All the Crossbreed portions are self-sufficient. There’s the Sewer Colonies, usually used by Rat Crossbreeds or those similar, but most others stay in the wilderness. Some prefer up in the mountains if their animal sides enjoy high altitude, the Aquatic Crossbreeds stay in or near the rivers or and oceans, others, such as Wolf Crossbreeds stay in the level floored forest near the border. Wolf Crossbreed often serve as the leaders of the forest settlement, passing on the responsibility to their children when the time comes.
Today, the current leaders, Darren and Rebecca, were having their first child, Dakota. Dakota had golden blonde hair and baby blue eyes, much like her parents. When she transformed into her wolf form, her fur was snow white.
As Dakota grew up she eventually met her best friend, Thea, a Moose Crossbreed. When she was 9, Darren was taking the two of them out on a walk around the forest to teach them things when Dakota noticed the human city.
“Dad? What’s that over there?”
Darren deflated. “Oh, that. That’s the human settlement, Dakota. Stay away from there, they don’t like us. If they ever see you, they will try to hurt you,”
“But why? And how come they come into our forest if they don’t like us so much? Why don’t they just stay there then?”
“Who told you the humans came into our forest?”
“The other kids at school. They always say their parents tell them to hide and stay quiet until they go away,”
“Well honey, the humans don’t like us so much, they don’t want us to be in our settlement either. They think they deserve all of San Francisco. When you grow up, it’s going to be your main responsibility to protect our people from them.
Dakota looked down at the human city, sad and scared and hurt and Darren picked up on it.
“B-But, that’s nothing you have to worry about right now. I have some good news! You wonder why mom hasn’t been joining us?”
Dakota nodded.
“Well, you’re going to have a little brother!”
Theo perked up at that.
“That’s awesome!” She hugged Dakota hard. “D, you’re going to be a big sister!”
“Re-really? When?!”
Darren ruffled her hair. “In a couple months,”
Dakota jumped for joy. “YAY!”
A couple months later, Dakota’s little brother, Miles, was born and their family was complete. Dakota grew to be very protective of her little brother right away.
One night, Dakota was helping Miles learn how to walk before it was time for sleep.
“You’re doing great, Miles,”
Rebecca chuckled. “You’re very nice to your brother,”
“I love him, mom,”
“I know. You’re very sweet. But come on, it’s time for bed,”
Rebecca led Dakota to bed.
