Unknown destiny (BL)

Crossing the Line

Crossing the Line

Dec 30, 2025

The morning sunlight spilled into the apartment, warm but not enough to chase away the tight knot in my chest. Felix had already left for work, leaving me with the quiet hum of the city outside and my restless thoughts.

I was sitting at the table, trying to focus on a design sketch, when the doorbell rang.

Rylan.

I froze. My heart skipped part fear, part anticipation, part longing I didn’t dare name.

He stepped inside without waiting for an answer, calm, deliberate, and completely unafraid of the space he was claiming. “Kai,” he said softly, but there was something sharp in his tone   determination, maybe even a hint of warning.

I swallowed, words trapped in my throat. “R-Rylan… what are you doing here?”

“I can’t stay away,” he said, stepping closer. The air around him seemed charged, as if it carried the storm I hadn’t realized I’d been holding back. “Not anymore. Not after last night. Not after… everything.”

I wanted to argue. To tell him I had Felix, that I was safe, that I was okay. But my throat tightened, and I couldn’t speak.

He reached out, just barely, brushing a stray strand of hair from my face. The touch was gentle, but it ignited a spark I couldn’t ignore. “I don’t care what anyone says,” he murmured. “I’m not leaving you. Not now. Not ever.”

I felt tears prick my eyes, the ache in my chest both familiar and unbearable. “Rylan… I ”

He shook his head, silencing me with a look. “No. Let me say it first. You’ve been through enough. You don’t have to fight me or anyone else. I’ll fight for you. You’re mine.”

I stumbled back slightly, heart hammering. Part of me wanted to run to him, to let him hold me. Another part wanted to flee, afraid of the intensity, the claim, the raw honesty in his eyes.

“I…” I started again, but the words faltered.

Before I could finish, my phone buzzed. Felix. A message: Lunch today?

I glanced at the screen, then back at Rylan. The storm in his eyes didn’t fade. He saw the message, the flicker of hesitation on my face, and his jaw tightened imperceptibly.

“Felix?” he asked quietly, almost like a warning.

I nodded, guilty. “He… asked me to lunch.”

Rylan’s eyes darkened slightly, but he didn’t step back. Instead, he reached for my hand, firm, claiming it without words. “Doesn’t matter. I’m here. I’m not letting go.”

I felt the pull Rylan’s steady, fierce insistence, Felix’s warm, comforting presence in my life. The line between them, between desire and loyalty, blurred.

And I realized something terrifying. I didn’t want to choose. Not yet.

All I knew was that both of them had a hold on me. And the storm of emotions swirling around me was only beginning.

The city lights outside flickered like distant stars, but inside, my chest was a storm I couldn’t control. Rylan’s presence lingered like a shadow I couldn’t ignore, heavy, deliberate, demanding attention.

He didn’t speak at first, just leaned casually against the doorway, watching me fidget with my sketchpad. Every glance, every shift in posture felt intentional, claiming a space I hadn’t realized he wanted.

“I can’t stop thinking about last night,” he said finally, voice low but firm. “About what happened at the party, about your mom ” I flinched at the word, my chest tightening. “…about everything.”

I swallowed hard. “R-Rylan…” My voice faltered. I didn’t know what to say, what I wanted, what I could even admit.

He stepped closer, reducing the distance between us to a fraction of a breath. “Kai,” he murmured, placing a hand lightly on my shoulder, “I’m not leaving. You can lean on me. You always have.”

My chest throbbed painfully. Part of me wanted to collapse into him, to let his hands hold me steady. Another part resisted, remembering Felix’s warm presence, the quiet safety he offered every day.

“I… I don’t know…” I whispered, the words breaking in my throat.

He didn’t force me to explain. He simply stayed, patient yet insistent, eyes holding mine with a quiet intensity. “You don’t have to know yet. Just… don’t push me away.”

And that was it the quiet power behind his words, the promise in his touch, the possessive edge I couldn’t ignore.

I sank onto the couch, exhausted by the tug between them, by the pull of two hearts claiming me in different ways. My hands shook slightly, and I closed my eyes, leaning back against the cushions.

Rylan crouched beside me, not touching, just close enough that I could feel the heat radiating from him. “Kai… you can trust me. I’ll protect you. I’ll be here. No matter what.”

“Kai,” he said softly, stepping closer. “You’re quiet tonight. Thinking too much again?”

I swallowed, unsure if I could admit the truth   that I was thinking about him, about Felix, about every tangle of emotion I couldn’t untie. “Maybe,” I murmured, voice barely above the rain.

He crouched beside me, just close enough that the warmth of his presence brushed against me. “You don’t have to handle it alone,” he said quietly. “I’m here. You can lean on me.”

I wanted to. God, I wanted to. But the thought of Felix his laughter, his careful attention, his unwavering support   pulled me back, like a second anchor in the storm. My hands trembled as I folded them in my lap.

“I… I don’t know how,” I admitted finally, voice breaking. “I don’t know how to… choose. How to… feel without hurting someone.”

Rylan’s hand brushed lightly over mine, not pressing, just a whisper of contact, a claim without words. “You’re not choosing yet. You don’t have to. Just… trust me to be here. That’s enough for now.”

My chest tightened, and I closed my eyes. The ache of longing, guilt, and desire mingled inside me like fire and ice. I leaned back, letting myself feel it all, knowing that the next time Felix came home, I’d have to face both anchors tugging at me.

He didn’t move, didn’t speak further. He just stayed, a steady presence, patient and unwavering, letting me exist in the storm without judgment. And somehow… that made the ache sharper, the longing deeper.

I didn’t speak. I didn’t move. But I felt it   the invisible thread between us, taut and unbroken, pulling me toward something I wasn’t ready to name.

And I realized, as the rain tapped against the glass, that the storm inside me wasn’t going to settle anytime soon.

Rylan’s eyes met mine, unwavering, claiming. And I… didn’t want him to ever let go.
