Then I took a step forward, then another, until I stood between Kuro and Hikari, drawing their attention.
"I don't know what's going on here."
I began, looking at each other. Hikari was about to speak, but her voice trembled, and even though she could have spoken, I stopped her before she could.
"And yes, I know, Kuro might not be the best with words..." I said, sighing before continuing. "But she hasn't done anything to make you want her gone."
Hikari froze, her eyes widening. She clearly hadn't expected this response, much less that I would side with Kuro, who now also seemed like a statue. She said nothing, no curt comment like always, nothing. She just watched.
"You said it yourself, you don't know what's going on." Hikari said, her eyes now filled with something I had never seen in her before... tears.
Seeing this, I tensed up, and a feeling of guilt welled up in my chest. I hadn't meant to make her cry.
Kuro, on the other hand, was frozen in place, but what also made me feel lost was the tear that fell down her cheek... not of anger... not of fear like Hikari's, it seemed to be a tear of hope.
"I..." I froze for a moment before taking a breath and then continuing. "Yes, I don't know what's going on. But I don't think you should be in this kind of dynamic of hatred upon hatred."
Hikari looked at me, as if what I was saying made no sense. Tears streamed down her cheeks, tears of pain, of sadness, perhaps even of fear.
"Please," she said, looking at me with pleading eyes. "Please..."
She repeated. And without realizing it, I was now in trouble, which could turn out very well, or very badly.
Decision:
-Take Hikari's hand
-Take Kuro's hand (Go Where Darkness Chose Me)
-Take both of their hands
