I had to go back and look! They're so much smaller by episode 8– even in episode 1 they look less gnarly than the ones shown in her memory here. Maybe her powers blinked out as soon as they started healing/fading away? That has the potential to be a lot of trouble if, say, the princess actually survived and is here somewhere but got shrapnel from the shipwreck under her skin in any way.
