I heard the heavy door to the dungeon open and scrambled even deeper into the corner. Hoping maybe they won't see me and will instead just leave. Thats when I felt the chain around my ankle. I felt my eyes roll back and I was forced into a memory.
-Twelve years ago-
I was being dragged down a long hallway under the pack house by my hair. I had made Him angry again. One of the guards kept dragging me even when I tripped and skinned my knee. We made it to the end of the hallway and I could hear beeping as he put in a code to open the door.
He was waiting on the other side of the door. I tried to struggle but the guard just gripped harder and yanked me in.
"Will that be all Sir?" The guard asked
"Yes, thank you Gabriel."
Gabriel threw me to the ground and walked out closing the door behind him. I was petrified in fear. I couldn't even force myself to breath.
"Now Now Sunny what did you do this time? I've been told by many that you haven't been following the rules again. What do I do to bad girls? Ah yes I punish them!" He giggled. He always loved hurting me. Whether i deserved it or not. The pack always just fed him whatever he wanted to hear. Whether I broke the rules or not.
"Are we feeling the electric chair? Or a good whipping? Ah why not both!" I could hear the pure joy in his voice. This was going to be like nothing I'd felt before. This was by far the worst punishment I had in all 6 years of being alive.
I felt my little body being shaken. The memory was getting blurry? Was I going to pass out?
-Present Time-
"There you go come back to us. Just breath. Everything is going to be alright little wolf." I didn't recognize this wolf's voice. I felt myself jerk away.
"Get away from me!" I was always sensitive after a flashback. Especially after That flashback. That punishment solidified my plan to run away even if I died in the woods that would have been better than living in that pack.
"Hey its alright we aren't going to hurt you little wolf. How about we take the shackle off and we brijgn you topside? Are you hungry? You've been down here since about 3 o'clock when Devin brought you in." Why was this mystery wolf being so nice. Didn't the other wolf say he was going to get his brother? Is this him?
"Why...why are you treating me like this? I'm a prisoner."
"For starters you are not a prisoner. You never should have been brought in the way you were nor should you have been locked in this cell."
"But I'm a rogue? I though rogues were killed when they tresspassed?" I wasn't understanding this wolf. I wasn't well versed in our laws but, I knew rogues were bad no matter what.
"Typically yes they are treated like that or similarly. However, You're just a kid and we don't treat children that way rogue or not."
"But I'm not a kid! I'll be 18 in a few hours." I didn't know what time it was but, I could tell it was dark outside through the tiny window in my cell.
"That still makes you a kid. You technically can't even sniff your mate out yet." I felt a shiver of fear go down my spine.
"I don't have one. That's what He always said. That bad wolves don't get mates and that I was destined to be stuck with Him forever." I shouldn't have said that. Stupid Sunny always running your mouth.
"Everyone has a mate somewhere out there. Who told you all those things? Your Alpha?" Shit I knew I said too much. I felt myself freeze at the thought of him. I would never tell anyone who my old Alpha was. Never. I was also done with this conversation.
"Alright little wolf at least let me properly introduce myself. My name is Darevin but most call me Dare. I am the Alpha of Crystal Water Pack. And this other guy is my twin brother Devin our Beta. Can you tell me your name?" Darevin sounded like a nice enough Alpha but, thats how they gain your trust. I couldn't risk telling them my actual name.
"Sara. My...my name is Sara." Good lie Sunny!
"Are you telling me the truth little wolf?" Darevin asked. I just nodded. Something about lying to him just didn't sit right with me but, I didn't have a choice.
"Alright if you're sure that you're telling the truth lets go to the kitchen and get something to eat."
Sunny has been on the run for over eight years. Life wasn't easy for a measly 10-year-old surviving on her own. Living purely on her werewolf instincts she's survived on her own. Honing her hearing and smell in order to sense danger long before it strikes. She's only ever known loneliness. What happens when she runs into another wolf's territory? Will all her struggling be for naught or will she finally know what it is to live?
