Hiroto waved to the two of them and went back to talking with the girls.
Kanato and Satoru walked into their shared classroom, they both were lucky enough to sit next to each other. Satoru thought it would be a great opportunity to mess around, they could pass notes to one another and share stupid drawings. Though that was not even close to what happened.
Kanato was extremely devoted to his studies and no matter what Satoru tried to do to get Kanato distracted it never worked, when Kanato was in class or studying the entire world seemed to fall away. But that did not mean Kanato liked doing schoolwork. Kanato hated his assignments and studying more than anything but he was afraid of his mother and did what was asked of him. If he were to ever let his grades slip, even a bit she would threaten to make him stop doing the things that mattered most to him.
Before class started Kanato laid out his textbook, notebook and pencil case in an orderly fashion. That was Kanato for you, very neat and organized. Whereas Saotru on the other hand was far less organized, he just had a single pencil and his notebook out, though it looked to be more of a sketchbook rather than a notebook. All Satoru had was his sister and she could’ve cared less about his grades and how well he did in school, that was hardly her concern. Because of that Satoru did the bare minimum to keep himself from failing, he wasn’t overly ambitious and had no real goals, he just went about his days in the same way, nothing in his world ever seemed to change.
Class eventually started and it proceeded the same as always. Satoru doodled in his notebook while taking down notes here and there. Kanato was ever focused, jotting down notes and following along with the textbook.
Eventually it was time for lunch. Kanato and Satoru waited outside of their classroom for Hiroto with their lunches in hand. They didn’t have to wait long before Hiroto came out of the room next to theirs with a smile and wallet ready to go .
“Are you getting your usual yakisoba bread?” Kanato asked, noticing the wallet.
“Indeed! I’ll be right back. Actually let me meet you guys on the roof,” Hiroto said.
“Alright, we’ll head up there then,” Kanato nodded and watched as Hiroto practically sprinted down the halls to the school store in order to buy his beloved yakisoba bread before it ran out.
The two then made their way over to the stairwell and headed up to the roof. Once they made it to the roof they sat themselves down on the bench that was up there. Satoru leaned up against the chainlink fence and looked up at the sky.
It didn’t take long before Hiroto returned, yakisoba bread in hand. “Hope I didn’t keep you guys waiting for too long.”
Satoru looked at Hiroto, “took you long enough,” he said sarcastically with a smile on his face.
“Oh shut up, you know I took just as I always do,” Hiroto said, playfully smacking Satoru on the shoulder.
The three laughed and opened their lunch boxes, eating in silence, just enjoying each other’s company.
Though halfway through, Kanato stopped eating and looked into the distance before speaking.
“You know I’ve been doing some thinking recently…” Kanato said as he stopped eating.
Both Hiroto and Satoru paused and looked at Kanato, whatever Kanato was about to say it sounded pretty serious.
“What is it?” Hiroto asked, mouth still full of yakisoba bread.
“I’ve been thinking over this for a while and I want to know your thoughts on starting a band,” Kanato said, hesitation in his voice.
Satoru and Hiroto’s eyes widened, they never really expected those words to come out of Kanato’s mouth, after all who would expect that? As unexpected as it was, it wasn't the most insane thing for Kanato to propose. After all, the three had a deep love for music, especially Kanato.
Kanato had a cheap guitar that his mom bought him as a kid but he loved that thing, he practiced and played it every day. Kanato always made it his goal to learn the songs on the new CDs he bought. At first he knew how to play every song he had but as his collection grew the harder it became for him to do that. Kanato also loved to play for Hiroto and Satoru, he would learn their favorite songs and show them the next time they met up.
As for the other two they loved music as much as Kanato did but they hadn’t the first clue how to play. They just went to the shows and listened to the music but that was the extent of it. Though Satoru did wonder sometimes what it would be like to create music and play in a band but that was just a fantasy he had from time to time, nothing all that serious.
Hiroto was the first to chime in, “sure, I think it could be fun,” he smiled.
Satoru’s jaw dropped, he couldn’t believe that Hiroto just agreed without much thought. Satoru also thought it could be fun but at the same time there were so many logistics that they would have to figure out and it’s not like they really knew what they were doing.
Satoru was skeptical, “I’m not fully convinced, how is this supposed to work? Neither Hiroto nor I know what we’re doing and it’s not like we have any money to be able to do anything as grand as starting a full fledged band.”
Kanato smiled and waved his hand, "don't worry I know what I’m doing. I’ve been looking into this stuff for a while now. My thought is that we’ll first get jobs since we can’t do anything without money, after that we’ll go find some cheap place that we can rent out as our studio, then get our instruments and we can learn how to play as we go.”
“Okay but it’s gonna take us a while to learn how to play anything decent. It’ll take too long besides you’re the only one that knows how to do anything. As important as the guitar is, we can't rely on that. Also we’re still in school, how are we going to be able to do any of these things?” Satoru questioned.
“Hmm yeah Satoru does bring up some good points. I’m all down to try but I also don’t want to waste my time,” Hiroto chimed in.
“Trust me, if we just practice everyday we should be able to make something worthwhile in no time. We just have to put time into it.” Kanato pleaded.
Satoru sighed, “alright. I’ll give it a shot but if this proves to be a waste of my time I’m quitting.”
Kanato’s face lit up and a smile bloomed on his lips, “thanks you guys! I promise not to disappoint you both!” he said, practically jumping on Hiroto and Satoru, hugging them close.
“Yeah yeah, now get off me,” Satoru said, trying to push Kanato off of him.
Kanato eventually released the two of them, “okay, how about we meet up this Sunday to go looking around for jobs? If we want to get started we should get started sooner rather than later.”
Hiroto nodded, “wow, you really have been planning this for a while. That works for me,” he agreed.
“That’s fine with me, though you better send us more details,” Satoru added.
Kanato smiled, “yeah yeah, don’t worry I’ll be sure to do that tonight.”
