CHAPTER 2

The morning air had a weight to it, heavy and expectant, though no one could yet name why. Students trickled into the courtyard in neat streams, their uniforms crisp, their steps careful. Phones vibrated in pockets, buzzing with cryptic notifications, yet most dismissed them as glitches. Some glanced at their screens nervously, furrowing their brows, but no one wanted to admit that something was… wrong.

Seanan Ratanakorn walked through the crowd like a shadow drifting over the bright colors of the students’ lives. His eyes scanned the scene with quiet precision. Every gesture, every glance, every whispered word was cataloged and stored in his mind. He saw the girl who tugged nervously at her hair, the boy who avoided looking directly at the teacher, the tiny shift in posture that betrayed fear in someone who wanted to appear brave.

To the world, Seanan was untouchable: brilliant, admired, flawless. But in the hollow spaces behind his eyes, memory and guilt intertwined. The image of his twin, Sena, flashed before him—small, fragile, vulnerable. He had watched, powerless, while the cruelty of others carved invisible scars into him. The sting of regret was a shadow that never left.

"I won’t fail again," Seanan thought. "They won’t hurt anyone else without paying attention to what I see."

Across the courtyard, a figure hesitated at the edge of the crowd. Kavi Chatchai adjusted the strap of his backpack, taking a cautious step forward. The Heartthrob Group flanked him, their presence as effortless and magnetic as the sun itself. Pawin, the leader, gave a small nod. “First day, kid. Try not to trip.”

Kavi’s lips curved in a polite, controlled smile. “I don’t plan to.”

He scanned the courtyard, taking in the hierarchy, the subtle power dynamics, the four girls who circled the Heartthrobs like satellites. Their eyes sparkled with admiration and envy in equal measure. It was a delicate ecosystem of social influence—and Kavi, though new, could sense the underlying tension.

Seanan noticed him immediately. The boy wasn’t loud. He wasn’t trying to impress. But there was a calm, observant energy that drew attention—not intentionally, but naturally. Seanan tilted his head slightly, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Interesting. He sees what most people don’t.

Classes began, and the first subtle cracks appeared. Seanan sat at his usual spot in the back, notebook perfectly aligned, pen poised. Around him, whispers carried fragments of fear and confusion:

“Did you get that message?”
“How do they know what I did last weekend?”
“This has to be a prank.”

Kavi opened his phone discreetly. A single line appeared on the screen:

"Watch closely. Your choices matter."

He felt a shiver run down his spine. He glanced at Seanan, who was already scrolling through his own messages with serene focus. Calm, unbothered, precise.

"Of course," Kavi thought. "He knows what’s coming."

The day’s lessons blurred under the pressure of the invisible Game. Students received prompts and notifications that seemed tailored to their insecurities. Small, seemingly innocuous questions—about friendships, choices, regrets—appeared on their devices, but with an edge that made them doubt themselves.

A girl named Belle’s phone vibrated. Her screen read:

"Who do you really admire? Be honest."

She glanced at her friends for reassurance, but their eyes were wide with uncertainty. Even the Heartthrob Group members exchanged uneasy glances. Pawin’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second before he masked it with casual arrogance.

Kavi noticed Seanan’s eyes on the scene. Calm. Calculating. Not a hint of fear.

"He isn’t just observing," Kavi realized. "He’s… guiding it."

A memory struck Seanan suddenly. He saw Sena, trembling in the school bathroom, clutching his notebook. Tears blurred his vision as other students whispered behind the closed door. Seanan had been outside, powerless, a silent witness to the cruelty that left his twin broken and wary of the world.

"They’ll see," Seanan thought, jaw tightening. "They’ll see the consequences of indifference. And they’ll see that pain is more than fleeting—it shapes everything."

By lunch, the courtyard was thick with unease. Phones vibrated incessantly. Students huddled in small groups, whispering theories, panicked and frantic. Kavi approached Seanan cautiously, careful not to draw attention.

“Hey… you’re… okay, right?” he asked softly.

Seanan’s gaze flicked up. Calm. Assessing. He tilted his head slightly. “Do you mean physically?”

“No… mentally,” Kavi replied, swallowing. “This… thing is weird. But you… you don’t seem affected.”

Seanan considered him for a moment. Then, almost imperceptibly, a faint smile tugged at his lips. Analytical. Precise.

“Some people are built for observation. Some are built for reaction. I fall into the first category.”

Kavi felt a chill. “And the others?”

Seanan’s eyes drifted to the Heartthrob Group, whose confident faces were slowly cracking under the weight of their own insecurities. “They’re not aware… yet.”

The Game escalated. Messages became more personal, more pointed. Secrets, fears, regrets—all were exposed in carefully phrased sentences that forced students to confront themselves.

To Pawin:

"You think everyone admires you. But who do you admire? Name them."

To Mint:

"You pretend to care for your friends. But what do you fear losing most?"

Students reacted differently. Some laughed nervously, some cried quietly, some froze. Panic spread like wildfire.

Kavi watched Seanan again. Calm. Precise. Calculating.

"He knows exactly how far to push them," Kavi thought. "And he’s watching everything… even me."

Flashbacks to Sena continued to haunt Seanan. He saw the twin who had feared ridicule, the twin who had cried silently, the twin who had whispered apologies for sins that weren’t his own.

"I cannot let this happen again," Seanan thought. "They will feel the weight of what they’ve done—but not like me. Not through cruelty. Through truth."

By mid-afternoon, the tension had reached a boiling point. Even the Heartthrob Group’s composure was slipping. Tawan’s laugh faltered, Mek’s usual secrecy became paranoia, Niran’s jokes lost their humor. Kavi noticed it all, and yet he couldn’t look away from Seanan. Something about the boy’s calm, cold precision drew him in.

“Do you… know who’s behind this?” Kavi asked during a quiet moment, voice low.

Seanan’s eyes met his. A shadow of amusement flickered there.

“Perhaps. Perhaps not. But the more interesting question is—who will survive their own choices?”

Kavi shivered. There was something magnetic and dangerous about Seanan. And he knew, even without fully understanding, that he wanted to be involved, wanted to be near him.

By the time classes ended, whispers had turned to murmurs of chaos. Students were panicking, crying, laughing nervously. The four girls whispered among themselves, throwing glances at Seanan with curiosity and fear.

Seanan moved through it all like a shadow. Calm. Observant. He had already predicted the first cracks in the social structure, the fractures that would form in relationships and trust. And he had noticed Kavi’s attention.

"Curious," Seanan thought. "A new variable. Perhaps useful… perhaps dangerous."

That evening, Seanan returned to his room, locking the door behind him. He opened his phone. Another message blinked on the screen:

"Observe. Evaluate. Decide."

He read the words carefully. Not one letter seemed random. Every punctuation, every space, was deliberate. Someone was watching. Someone was testing him—or perhaps waiting for him to make the first move.

Seanan’s lips curved slightly.

"Interesting," he whispered. "The evaluation is deeper than I imagined."

Kavi sat across the city, replaying the day over and over in his mind. His thoughts kept returning to Seanan—the way he moved, observed, and predicted.

"There’s more to him than anyone sees," Kavi thought. "And I need to understand it."

Neither of them knew yet that the first fault lines had begun to spread. Friendships would fracture. Secrets would surface. Shadows from the past—of Sena, of mistakes, of cruelty—would begin to reshape their world.

As the city lights flickered on, a final notification appeared on Seanan’s phone:

"First round complete. Observe the cracks."

Seanan’s eyes gleamed, calm and deadly precise.

"Let the evaluation continue," he murmured.

Outside, the world seemed normal. But beneath the surface, the quiet storm had begun. And nothing would ever be the same.
