Hana discovered the note by accident.
It was folded neatly inside Minjae’s notebook, tucked between pages of class notes and half-finished doodles. She hadn’t meant to snoop—he’d asked her to grab it from his bag while he went to buy drinks.
She hesitated.
Then unfolded it.
Things I like.
The list was short.
-
Quiet places
-
Rainy afternoons
-
Drawing sounds
-
Sitting by windows
-
Hana
Her breath caught.
She stared at the last line, written a little darker than the rest, like he’d pressed the pen down harder.
“Hana?”
She nearly jumped out of her skin.
Minjae stood there, two drinks in hand, eyes flicking from her face to the paper.
“Oh—! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—” She quickly folded it back, cheeks burning. “I wasn’t trying to read your stuff.”
He went still.
Then… he laughed.
Soft. Embarrassed.
“I forgot I left that in there,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck.
“So… that’s why?” Hana asked quietly.
He tilted his head. “Why what?”
“Why you like me.”
Minjae stepped closer, voice low and calm. “I liked you before I knew why.”
She looked down at her hands. “I still don’t really get it.”
“That’s okay,” he said. “You don’t have to.”
He reached out, hesitated—then gently took her hand.
“When you draw,” he continued, “you forget the world exists. I wanted to be part of that quiet.”
Hana felt something warm settle in her chest.
“I’m still ordinary,” she said.
Minjae smiled. “Good. So am I.”
They sat by the window together, rain tapping softly against the glass.
And for once, Hana didn’t feel invisible at all.
