The story of a festival decades ago goes as such: Leviathan fractals ravaged the sea not far from Sunrises coast. Two young recruits to one of the fishing ships saw the storm they brewed and the impending doom coming to the shores.
The older recruit dashed out onto the sea using a small boat and charging into the storming tempest. Unknown to her her junior joined her out on the sea. The two felled both the storm and the beasts with a mix of explosive fire and raging storms. At just 36 and 14 the two saved their home from a worse fate.
Though every action causes a reaction, while they stopped the beasts they failed to minimize the tsunami the shocks from battle caused. The older recruit used her flames to burn as much water as possible but the waterside structures and elves still suffered severely.
Vyshima still lives with the regret of not being faster or stronger.
Jasper also harbours the guilt that the storm he released allowed this to happen.
Because of this the two went in opposite directions mentally. Vyshima wished for strength while Jasper wished to suppress the storm he held.
Following those storms many came forth to help. Including a stargrapher who had been sent to the exile for reasons unknown. Together the three became the first fangs of the dragon.
Not long after a girl seemingly fell from the stars. She knew not her name or her home. So she was offered a new home and became the fourth fang.
A dragon with only fangs though does not bite as hard as one with a full set. Vyshima decided to take in two kids as well. Ones who lost everything they had when another round of waves hit. Remembering her guilt, she took them as her own.
Crescent grove stepped in as the storms got worse. An envoy they offered to send to assess damage and give a report…
"We're nearing the frosted zones. Lower the sails so we can lose momentum before we hit the tempest." Mercyi called.
Jasper walked up next to Vyshima, sheathing his swords to his hip. "It hasn't been this bad since…"
"Don't." She spoke low. "We'll get rid of them as always… The others are planted there to stop the waves."
"Can we trust them though… How do we know they won't just run…" Jasper frowned. Vyshima reached over and placed a hand on his shoulder. "They are friends of Imani, and she is practically one of us. If she can trust them then I will too."
"Love can leave us blind to reality." He mumbled. She removed her hand and walked closer to the railing.
"It can also help us see the truth. About others, about the world, and about ourselves." She smiled back at him. "And I've never been wrong whenever I trust in my girl."
They slowed as they reached a massive whirlpool. Flying fractals circled it and immediately began to swoop. Vyshima drew her halberd and pulled the string on the handle back. An arrow of flame appeared and she shot a scatter of them across the sky. Mercyi also had drawn their bow, trying to keep a steady aim as they also shot fire arrows.
Imani opened her hand and a wand of ice began to form. Once ready she raised her arms and began to make motions as if she were directing a band. Ice swirled around her before shooting into the sky. With each wave and sharp conduction the ice swirled around, if it missed it came waving back.
Imani Msuya. The Second of the High Elves. Despite her status as a royal she's one of the most lethal elves in battle besides the First and Third seats. Using graceful movements and sharp focus she conducts her attacks from her wand until all targets lie frozen or otherwise. However one will not escape her performance should they challenge her.
The boat began to slow and without waiting Vyshima launched off of the deck and into the sky. Imani and Jasper followed close behind.
Several snake like fractals burst up out of the water, their jaws wide as they shot towards the captain.
"YOU TWO! I'M GONNA GO FOR THAT BIG ONE! TAKE CARE OF THE SHRIMPS!" Flame cloaked her halberd as she twirled it around and slammed down, cracking the teeth before flipping her halberd around and firing several arrows into its mouth. The fractal screeched and wriggled around. Its tail came up as it went down into the water, trying to grab her. She jumped off of its face and aimed down, more arrows appearing. It pelted the beast which shot back up again.
Vyshima covered her halberd and self in flame and spun down. cracking its face and knocking it back into the water. "WHAT'S WRONG? SCARED OF A LITTLE FIRE?" She shouted. The Fractal sprung back up. There it was, the gem… was under its tongue.
Imani and Jasper both danced around the fractals springing forward and chomping at them. Lighting struck heavy around them while ice stabbed into them to keep them immobilized. Jasper sliced into them, using lightning to shatter the gems while Imani continued to direct elements around to keep them occupied. "This is… more than I've ever seen…" Imani huffed, slicing another down. Jasper continued to leap between them, stabbing through another to hit the gem before going to another. "I know. But stay focused… There's a reason for all of them that we can find out later." Jasper called back to her, shattering a few more.
Fire exploded from behind them as the leviathan taking the hit exploded and Vyshima came crashing down, landing on the back of another and using her halberd as a crutch. "I fear it'll be chaotic for quite a while. There's at least three more like that massive one still under the water."
Jasper grit his teeth. "This will take forever… they'll disperse and go for the shore if we don't deal with them…"
Imani hummed, before beginning to untie her hair. "We only need to shatter them, a hard kick through the throat should suffice." Using Taru's method isn't very sane or safe… but in this instant it could work.
"Kick?? That'll hurt us more than-" Jasper turned to her but Vyshima burst out laughing. "You gonna power up, sugar? I think I get ya." She pulled her halberd out. "Jasper, me and her can make quick work of these however it won't be safe. I want you and Mercyi to get closer to shore to handle the shockwave or any escaped snakes."
Jasper hesitated a moment before he turned and quickly jumped back towards the boat. Once they saw the boat leaving the two turned back towards the swirling tempest. A dark pit, occasionally lit up by the fractals pulsing with mana.
"You can take the lead, I'll use as much strength as I can until I gotta join you." Vyshima rested her weapon on her shoulders. Imani opened her hand and her wand disappeared. "Very well, do be careful though."
Slowly her hair began to become wavy and its hue elevated just slightly. Her eyes began to glow and her horns grew just slightly. In her hand was now a new wand, one made of colder ice.
An ethereal form, all elves can take one but only the most skilled can truly hold it for battle.
By condensing their own mana and drawing in mana from the outside they spread this condensed mana through their body and allow themselves to access a higher level of their power. Though the toll it takes on their reserves and energy is massive. It's a one time chance on an all out.
Imani jumped into the air and kicked down into the tempest, Ice spread over the surface in seconds, though immediately two fractals came bursting up, their jaws wide. She raised her wand and the ice that didn't get fully crushed or melted spiked towards them, stabbing straight through them. One exploded but the other wriggled and retreated underwater.
"No you don't." She raised her wand again and the water shot into the air, pulling it back out of the water. She dashed forward, and using ice as a casting, kicked the beast through the throat, causing it to burst.
Meanwhile below Vyshima jumped between each of the smaller fractals that continued to swarm, shattering them in one or two hits. Though there were so so many. "What the hell… is going on… that there's so many of these damn snakes-" She narrowly dodged being biten and slammed her halberd into another to kill it.
They all rose up around her at the same time, mouths open. As they crashed down onto her fire exploded between them and caused them to explode. She had taken her ethereal form. Vyshima jolted into the air, hovering there as she loaded her bow. "Ice Queen, do you have any idea about why there's so many of these stupid snakes?"
"Not even one, I've never seen this many in one place let alone so angry… Did the storm kill a lot of fish?" She continued to direct elements over the swarming beasts.
"Even when they do this doesn't happen like this! Maybe once or twice we get a pack of 4 but never this many continuously…not in years" She fired another arrow. "At this rate they're gonna reach the shore."
"How did you deal with this last time?" Imani paused, looking over to her. Vyshima paused in her shot, squinting. "Hellfire Hurricane…" She mumbled. "Me and Jasper put our powers together and using his storm strix he pulled them around me and i used this form to burn them to ash… but we can't… That caused too big of a shockwave and we couldn't stop it…"
Imani closed her eyes a moment, before she pointed her wand. "I don't mean to overstep… but that may be our only option. I can do the hurricane part and we will trust the others to stop any thing it causes."
Vyshima fired her arrow, before sheathing her weapon. She took a deep breath before pointing. "Over the Tempest. We do it there."
Even on shore the wind was getting harsher and the water was crashing further and further onto shore. The ship docked just a bit from harbour and Jasper immediately used his strix to jump off and begin across the water. Mercyi ran to the rail and shouted. "HEY JASPER! WAIT WHERE ARE YOU GOING!"
Jasper stopped and looked back. "I NEED TO MAKE SURE THE COAST STAYS SAFE."
Mercyi let out a long sigh. "We left those high elves there though! Shouldn't we minimize the impact before it reaches!"
"No! I can't trust someone else to do my job!" He turned and continued running.
The wind died down as he got closer, plants and wood were coiled on the coast, trying to absorb and block the surging water. The wind was all coiling to one spot, Taru was floating just a bit off the ground, drawing the wind into himself and calming it down just a bit. Meanwhile Jemm, Yoshi, and the twins were trying their best to direct people away from the coast and to higher ground. Jasper walked up to Juilietta who was sitting and watching Taru. "Juilie… what's going on are you all okay?" He took her face.
Juilietta lit up and smiled. "Jazzz you're back! Did Shima get rid of the baddies?"
"N… No… her and the envoy are working on it… what's going on." He looked up.
"The wind got reeeal bad and it was causing stuff to go flying so green sweater began to float and it calmed down, isn't that incredible?" She hummed.
Jasper squinted slightly, the emotional wreak was actually useful huh… He looked really focused too so he shouldn't say anything to bother him. Though a few fractals came swooping down. Jasper drew his sword to kill them but before he could move Taru opened his eyes and swung his leg around, the wind went straight into them and shattered both, the wind scattering the goo before it could fall on them.
Juilietta began clapping and laughing while Jasper stood watching. Guess none of the high elves were to be underestimated…
Imani floated above the tempest, wind and ice began to swirl around her. Vyshima floated just above her, watching as slowly a vortex of water began to rise around them, causing the fractals to be sucked into it. Vyshima drew in a breath before letting out a loud yell. Fire exploded around her and the wind and rising vortex around them turned into a mass of fire.
One everyone could see from the shore. Jasper turned and watched the fire, his eyes widening and his ears picking up just a bit.
"… she isn't…"
