1001 Dark Tales

Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Jan 16, 2026

I easily slipped through the train with Fox's muscle memory. However, as I walked around more, I realized it was abandoned. I had thought it was weird that no one was guarding the prince's chamber. You would expect not only the treasure to be protected but the prince himself. Something is going on.

I stepped out of the shadows, no longer caring if anyone saw me. I mean, there would have to be someone who would actually have to be here for them to see me. I bolted in the direction I had seen one of them go off in. Trying to recall the plans my brother had me go over. Usually, he was the only one who bothered remembering all that shit.

However, knowing this character, he would have it buried deep in his memory somewhere. He hated being useless because of his muteness. Therefore, he performed every task perfectly. After a moment of searching, the plans filled my mind. I didn't even pause in my stride.

I just changed directions, running toward the man positioned closest to where the treasure was thought to be. I slipped back into the shadows the closer I got. Knowing that if what I thought was right, I could definitely get caught by someone, the closer I was to this place. I slipped into the man's hiding spot right as he was going to slip out.

His eyes widened in surprise. "Lord Fox? What are you doing, he--."

I held a finger to my lips, telling him to be quiet as I slipped a rock from my pocket. Surprisingly, as it is. Fox likes to collect them to give to Raven. Something not even his brother knows about. They would go to a nearby lake.

So Fox could listen to her talk while she skipped rocks he found. I thought it was stupid, but his habit came in handy in this situation. I hurled the rock into the vase that was right outside the door we were targeting. The vase shattered on impact. Making enough noise to attract anyone nearby.

The man next to me. Lord Tiger, since his mask was a tiger, stared at me like I had gone insane. I ignored him, instead watching as over twenty soldiers burst out that door, weapons ready to run someone through. Shock once again filled Lord Tiger's face. Thankfully, he knew how to keep quiet despite it.

The soldiers stared at the rock and the broken vase, as if they couldn't understand what was going on. They probably expected Ravenhood herself or at least one of her men. Before they could get their brains back on track. I slipped two more rocks out of my pocket. Then I hurled them in the other direction, ensuring they hit something and traveled as far away from us as possible.

The soldiers followed the sound. Racing after those rocks, thinking they were a person. Once they were completely out of sight, I jerked my head, telling Lord Tiger we should probably go. Thankfully, he understood what I meant and followed me when I went to leave. Not really what I was going to do if he didn't understand.

As we slipped through the train, we grabbed everyone else. I didn't have to do anything since they instantly listened to Lord Tiger. I didn't lead them to the exits, though. They had to know that someone was on the train. I mean, unless they're stupid enough to believe that a rock can just magically appear out of nowhere and shatter a vase.

Instead, we hid in an abandoned room. Of course, most were upset. Whispering that I was ruining Lord Bear and Lady Hood's plan. I ignored them, knowing that even if I tried to communicate with them about how I saved their lives. They wouldn't believe me.

Fox had tried at first. However, it was a lot of work to communicate with him, so they went to his brother instead. Just because I was more than okay with not doing anything doesn't mean everyone was. Lord Tiger stepped in front of everyone, a look of disgust on his face.

"How can you say something like that? Lord Fox risked his life saving not only me but you guys too. When he realized something was wrong, he didn't just stay where he was. If he hadn't done what he did, then I would have died fighting against over twenty soldiers. Once they were done with me, they would have gone after you."

Everyone bowed their heads at his words; guilt filled their faces.

Lord Tiger turned to me, lowering his head in a bow. "I am sorry, Lord Fox."

I raised my eyebrow at him, asking why he was apologizing.

"I was one of the ones you tried communicating with earlier on. However, I would go to your brother because it was easier. Will you forgive me?"

I raised my hand about to gesture that actions speak louder than words. Then, I realized he probably wouldn't understand me and just lowered my hand instead. I just nodded in agreement. Everyone else started speaking up, offering their own types of apologies. Completely forgetting that we need to be quiet.

I held my finger to my lips to remind them. Unlike before, they fell silent instantly. If I were the real Fox, I would be ecstatic. I really couldn't care less. Still, Raven will be happy, so I'm not completely against this development.

Still, even if we're completely silent, we can't just stay here. Once this train stops, they will search every inch to find us. So either we fight our way out or find a way to slip out through an exit they aren't guarding. I gestured to Lord Tiger to come to me. He was by my side instantly.

I jerked my head towards the door, hoping he would understand.

"You want me to find somewhere we can slip out before the train stops?"

At my nod, he was slipping out the door.

I found an old quill in an antique shop and decided to buy it since I have always wanted to write with quills. However, as soon as I touched the quill to the paper, I was transported into the book. I wasn't the only one there, though three males who always hide their identities behind masks were in the book with me. They claim the quill belongs to them, and I must return it. Since I refuse, they follow me into every book I go into. One day, I was debating which of my mature books to write when I accidentally spilled the ink onto my book, 1001 Dark Tales. The only way they'll help me out of the book is if I give the quill back, and there is now a fourth. As I go through more of the book with them, I start noticing things. Things I had never planned for in my book, and it concerned me because even though I hadn't written those parts yet, none of the other stories I had used the quill on had ever gone that off track. However, when we tried to leave the book, it wouldn't let us back out. It seems we're stuck in the book until we finish all 1001 Dark Tales.
