Eyes, Wolves, and Moving Thrones

Chapter 19 : Eyes, Wolves, and Moving Thrones

The car slowed and stopped in front of a massive building.

Glass walls reflected Neon City’s lights like liquid fire. Above the entrance, a single symbol glowed calmly.

" L "

Mekisa stepped out of the car.

Yumiko leaned out of the window. “I’ll park nearby. Don’t disappear, okay  Sis.”

Mekisa nodded.

As the car pulled away, her phone vibrated.

An unknown ID.
She looked at the screen and smiled.

Unknown ID: Hey, Mekisa. I have information about the unknown shareholders.

Mekisa typed calmly.

Mekisa: Oh? Don’t play tricks with me.

Unknown ID: Oh my… you’ve developed a sharp mind.

Mekisa exhaled.

Mekisa: Enough word games. You knew about them before. You didn’t tell me.

Unknown ID: Haha… you’re right. I always knew.

Her fingers paused.

Mekisa: Then tell me ; why not earlier?

The reply came slowly.

Unknown ID: I’m not your babysitter.
Some steps must be walked alone.

If you want to survive what’s ahead, you must grow stronger than my expectations.

A pause.

Unknown ID: Good luck with your special hunt… or interview, my Lioness.

Mekisa clicked her tongue, slightly annoyed.

Mekisa: Fine. But remember
even a hunter’s season comes.
And when it does, I’ll participate too.

She added one last line.

Mekisa: I’ll call you Eye.

No reply came.

Just then

“BOO!”

Mekisa jumped.
Yumiko stood behind her, grinning widely.

“Wow,” Yumiko teased. “Kevi successor already has a secret boyfriend?”

Mekisa quickly slipped her phone into her pocket and pinched Yumiko’s ear.
“Ow-hey!”

“I’m older than you by few months,” Mekisa said firmly.

 “Respect me, little one.”

Yumiko smirked. “So… that means you admit I’m your sister?”

Mekisa froze for a second.

Then she abruptly turned away.

“No,” she said quickly. “We’re late. Let’s go.”

Yumiko blinked, slightly plan smile but didn’t argue.

They walked toward the building together.

As Mekisa moved forward, her thoughts sharpened.

"This isn’t my home.
My home is waiting at Sunshine Orphanage.
Everything else… is a battlefield.
She glanced sideways at Yumiko.
Wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Yumiko.
Eye.
The unknown shareholders.
And even… Yukiro."

The glass doors slid open.

Mekisa and Yumiko stepped inside
And both stopped.
Stunned.

Elsewhere.

Yukiro sat across from his sister, arms crossed.

“Even if they’ve identified the second unknown shareholder,” he said, “meeting them for a business deal should be impossible.”

His sister nodded. “Normally, yes.”

Yukiro looked down, thinking.

"My Lioness… you’re moving fast.
That’s good.
A faint smile touched his lips.
But your Frog King won’t stay in his small pond forever."

He looked up suddenly.

“Did you know,” he said casually, “that Neon City roads are famous for nails?”

His sister laughed. “So you want my help?”

Yukiro nodded. “Yeah.”

She smirked. “I miss my old outfit too.”

Yukiro tilted his head. “yeah ,that outfit shut you big sis . Sis… my phone sometimes has foresight.”

She raised an eyebrow. “And what does it say now?”

Yukiro smiled slightly.
“It says Lady Shizuka and Mr. Kaito’s car tire is about to go flat.”

His sister laughed softly.

“That’s very close,” she said.

“Let’s make it true my way.”

Somewhere in Neon City
Threads tightened.
Plans overlapped.
And the hunt quietly changed direction.
