Fallen Jewel

Chapter 7- Reika

Chapter 7- Reika

Jan 23, 2026

I felt like the walking dead.

I should not have stayed up all night scrolling around.

I leaned my head against the cold window. Ari sat beside me, and Krishna sat in front of us. To think that Eren was sitting in that exact spot a while ago. The train began to move, and we continued to sit in silence.

"Do you think Eren went through much pain?" I asked no one in particular. Everyone continued to stay quiet. I looked out the window to watch the blur of trees, grass, and a body of water as the train ran by. Without knowing, I dozed off to sleep.

_________
My big brother picked me up. "Stop crying. I didn't mean to break your toy."

I had been playing with my glass doll until a ball flew from nowhere and broke it. I looked at his face, but it was blurry.

"I am telling Mama!" I cried out. Big brother sat me down.

"I guess I will get yelled at," he sighed. I sniffed and stuck my tongue out.

"I won't tell if you promise to buy me a new one."

"Fine, I'll buy it."

"Yay!" I cheered and hugged my brother. He hugged me back gently, but all of a sudden, I couldn't breathe. His arms crushed my ribs. I cried out for him to stop, but he wouldn't budge. Darkness began to swallow me up. A sweet melody from a flute eased me. I could finally breathe! I opened my eyes only to find myself alone.

________

I woke up breathing hard.

"Hey, you alright?" Ari asked from beside me. I looked at her concerned face and nodded.

"Just had a bad dream," I told her. I glanced at Krishna, who was sitting with his arms crossed across his chest. He had his hair half-up in a bun and half-down. I remember hearing the same flute sound in my dreams.

 Was it him?

Ari nudged me, "Why are you staring at him?" she whispered, only for me to hear.

"I didn't mean to. How long was I asleep for?" I asked her.

Ari glanced at the time on her phone, then looked at me. "Three hours." I yawned then stretched my arms.

"How many languages do you know?" Ari asked Krishna.

"Six, I think," he said, sounding unsure. I gaped at him with wide eyes. Bro, I only know one, and I suck at it.

"What type of weapon are you?"

"I didn't know this was an interrogation."

"Just answer the damn question."

"You'll find out soon enough," he said and gave her a wink.

"He reminds me of someone," Ari grumbled out loud. I don't think she likes him. She looked ready to bite his head off, while Krishna looked like he was enjoying it.

"Do you guys think Caleb's alright?" I asked, changing the topic before World War three started.

"I hope he is," Krishna said.

"Man, I deserve a vacation after this," Ari yawned out loud.

I glanced out the window. "I think we are here," I told them. Watching as the train slowly came to a stop in a deserted station. Once it stopped, we grabbed our stuff and got off the train. We caught a lucky taxi and headed for the small town named Ashwood.

This was where Eren was sent for the last time. The town was quiet; not many people here.

Ari rubbed her arms as a shiver ran down her. "I'm getting goosebumps." I glanced at Krishna, whose eyes were wide.

I turned towards him. "What's wrong?"

His eyes focused on me. There's blood in the air." He was so pale.

"What do you mean?" I asked him. He didn't reply. We kept on walking on the road, not scared of any car running us over.

Ari suddenly stopped walking. "Oh my lord, people were butchered here." She put a sleeve on her nose to cover it.

"What are you guys talking about?" I asked them, but none of them bothered to explain what was happening. Krishna and Ari glanced at one another, millions of words being exchanged between them in one glance.

Since I'm a holder, I could probably not since something as they could.

"Can you please tell me what is going on?" I asked at the end of my patience. Ari and Krishna came in front of me as if expecting something. My left eye suddenly began to throb. My knees buckled, and I tried to gasp, but a scream erupted from my lips. Blood dripped on the road around me.

Someone was whistling, and the sound sent shivers down my spine. My eyes activated, and I could see the demons surrounding us.

"It's an ambush," I breathed out. Ari pulled on her necklace, and it transformed into her weapon. Krishna pulled out his flute from the back of his pants, but it suddenly turned into a trident. The beautiful gold trident glowed with green light from the Mani.

"So, you're also a handler," Ari noted as she looked around her surroundings.

Krishna smirked, "Looks like my secret's out."

"If you both are done flirting, can we please focus?" I told them as I got up. There was still blood dripping from my left eye.

"Let's connect," Ari suggested. We all put one earbud in our ears. The demons circled us. There were three of us pressing our backs to one another. There was a whole horde of them, and from the look of it, they were level three.

We could barely fight against a level one without any injuries.

All hope of surviving this mission faded away like a slap on the face.

We were gonna die here.

I took off my glove and took a deep breath as the mental lock on my hand opened. I felt the weight get heavier as it got bigger and blinded me by the light. The demons closed around us slowly. I waited for the right moment to attack, but an eerie melody coming from someone whistling froze me.

No one's supposed to be here.

I glanced around, but there were only demons around us.

Something's not right. How did they know we were here? At that moment, I remembered a lesson from Caleb.

"When it seems you're about to lose the fight and end up dead. You must run," he had told us during training.

"We need to run," I told everyone.

"What?" Ari said in confusion as her head turned around to look at me. "Why?"

"This was all planned out. They knew we were coming here. They had plenty of time to set the stage to kill us. We don't have a choice but to run," I explained to them. We all glanced at one another and agreed.

This fight was no match for us.

"Here's the plan: Ari, you hit as many demons when you spin your chain in an arc around us. Krishna, you'll go for any that are close to us and can't be hit by a long-distance weapon. And'll try to create an escape route." They all agreed to the plan and waited until I gave them a go.

Something was still off, but I couldn't place my finger on it. I gave them a go, and we began to fight for our lives. Ari spun her weapon around us, killing off the demons father away from us. Krishna swung his trident around and stabbed the demons close to us. I clawed, smashed, and sent the demons flying.

"Alright, run!" I screamed as an opening for us to escape was created. The thing about level three demons is that they can revive. All the vaporized dust began to form around us and began to take the form of their bodies. A form of a toddler. All three of us ran with our might.

Was Eren trapped like this, too?

 Did he take them head-on?

Alone?

We ran into a forest, hoping to lose the demons since they were unintelligent. My hand was back to normal since it would have dragged on the floor. I looked behind us to find the demons gone. I stopped, and others did too.

"I think we lost them," I panted.

"We need to call and report this to Caleb," Ari told us with his hand on her hips. He may be the only one capable of getting us out of here. I sat down on the ground.

"What were you all talking about before?" I asked them one last time.

"The air smelled like blood, which proved why no one was here. Everyone in this town was slaughtered," Krishna said, and soon after, silence followed. I glanced back at where we came from and thought of the town.

Kids were laughing as they played without a worry in the world. Couples are enjoying their dates. Families were going out for a walk, but one day their whole world crumbled right in a moment. Trying their best to run from the devil that came to this happy town. Trying their best to fight against it and protect the ones they love. But all their tries left them dead, drowning in their blood.

I rubbed my face from the horror. I opened my mouth to tell Ari to call Caleb, but the eerie whistling sound froze me. None of us was whistling then.

Who?
Seven people stepped out of the shadows around us. They all had an immortal look to them. Five of them were male, and the rest were female.

They looked like siblings. Same midnight hair that shone brighter than the stars, scary coal colored eyes, beautiful dark skin that made me jealous, and weird star-shaped tattoos on their left arms. The man in the center with a mole on the bottom of his right eye was whistling that tune.

He stopped and gave me a wolfish smile.
