When I woke up the first thing I noticed was the delicious smell in the room. My stomach growled. I slowly opened my eyes and realized I wasn't alone. I looked around the room and saw my mates and their father. Then it hit me. Their mother knows Markus. She knows.
"Hey... Sunshine. Everything is going to be okay." Darevin said softly. Almost like he was talking to a frightened animal. I guess I kind of was. "We're going to handle this. We need your help though, okay?"
"Mmm...okay" I said softly rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
"Are you hungry?" Devin asked already making his way over with a plate of food.
"Starving." My stomach let out another growl.
"Here you go, Little Mate." He handed me the plate with a fork. My chicken? I think thats what it was. Was already cut up for me along with some mashed potatoes and broccoli. My mouth watered. I started eating like a starved animal.
"Slow down Sunshine." Darevin said chuckling.
I quickly finished my plate. When I looked over at Damien he looked sad. Or maybe stressed. He didn't look like the same man from before.
"Are you okay?" I asked him pointedly.
"I... yes I'll be fine." He was lying but, that was okay. He wasn't ready to open up about what was actually on his mind. I'm sure it had something to do with that... woman.
"Why do you need my help" I asked looking over at Darevin.
"You know Markus better than any of us. We just need some basic information about him. If you feel like we need to stop we will. I don't want to cause too much stress on you right now. You're still recovernig from being in the woods all those years." Darevin said. Worry was pinching at his brows.
I realized in that moment I needed to act like the Luna I was supposed to be. They were worried for their pack. Worried for my future pack, should they actually accept me fully as a mate after knowing all the things Markus did to me when we were alone. I needed to be the wolf Markus was so afraid of. I always knew he treated me the way he did because he feared me for some reason. A child scared a monster like him.
"Ask anything and I'll answer it to the best of my knowledge." I felt my spine staighten, my voicing coming out strong. I would take this seriously even if I didn't want to relive those memories. I would do what ever was necessary for this pack to stay safe. It was my responsiblity.
"How many members do you think his pack has?" Damien asked looking at me.
"When I was there I'd estimate around 100 maybe a little more maybe a little less. However, I didn't have access to outside the pack house. I do not know how many there actually were just what I colunted coming through the pack house."
"How far do you think he'll go to get you back?" Devin asked.
"I'd say if he had the numbers and support he would go to war." I said my tone completely serious. Markus told me several times the lengths he'd go to make sure he always got me back no matter what he had to do.
"I don't mean any disrespect Sunny but, what makes you so special?" Damien asked.
"I don't know. He never outwardly said anything about why he desperately wanted to keep me trapped there but, I always had suspicions. Mostly from hearing a whisper here or there. I think a lot of it boils down to who my parents actaully were in the pack. It was forbidden to discuss the rogue attack that occured but, maybe you guys know something about it. It would have happened around 18 years ago soon after I was born."
"I remember hearing something about it. The official statement was that there was a rogue attack and the beta stepped up to the alpha position. However there were rumors circulating. They said someone had overthrown the alpha family. Had killed the whole family off entirely. The Alpha, Luna and their only child. A child they had only just had... days before hand." As Damien was retelling what he knew I could tell we all came to the same conclusion.
My parents were actually the Alpha and Luna. Markus killed my parents! He destroyed my childhood and killed my family!
I will kill him.
Say my name! You're strong enough Sunny! You know who I am!
And just like that everything came back to me. My wolf! He was why I was able to shift at such a young age! He had always been there! Well up until my failed escape when we were both too weak to stay connected.
Jake!
It's about time Sunshine! I've been trying to reach out to you for so long!
I missed you so much Jake! How could I have forgotten you?
You were young when we were seperated between realms. I don't take any of it personally. Now focus back on the conversation at hand.
As soon as I focused back in it was like the mate bond was 100x stonger. My wolf reappearing apparently brought the wolf side of the bond to life. The connection was so much stronger.
"Uh... Sunshine what just happened? Why can I feel you so much stronger now?" It was Darevin asking the question. It was almost like looking at my mates had gotten clearer. Like everything made perfect sense in the world.
"My wolf is back." I said with a smile. Now everything felt complete.
"What do you mean back?" Damien asked.
"It's a long story. One for another time. We need to figure out what we're going to do with Markus." I felt stronger now. More confident. Less timid.
"We need to get some scouts to figure how big his pack is and how big the packs are that he has treaties with. We also need to get ready for the gathering. We still need to introduce you to the pack. Devin mindlink our stealth wolves and have a couple go out and gather information. Tell them I want to know something with in 3 days. Assuming Daniella sent a message to Markus via messenger bird we should have approximately 14 days before he recieves it. And assuming he won't just march right up demanding you back we should have a month or more before anything happens. We need to contact The Council as well. See what we can legally do against the Blood Sin pack since it was illegally obtained and for the crimes they commited against our mate."
We spent the rest of the night planning. Planning our next steps and planning what information was going to be shared at the pack gathering tomorrow evening.
Sunny has been on the run for over eight years. Life wasn't easy for a measly 10-year-old surviving on her own. Living purely on her werewolf instincts she's survived on her own. Honing her hearing and smell in order to sense danger long before it strikes. She's only ever known loneliness. What happens when she runs into another wolf's territory? Will all her struggling be for naught or will she finally know what it is to live?
