“Several wounded ants, a handful of generals, that one must be a princess and most worrying of all, a defiant,” thinks Wost. What these ants guard is his target, the hideous cocoon that had consumed Omori. Wost decides to dash along the ceiling using ‘Lurk’ to go unnoticed and discreetly tear open the cocoon before retreating. Finding no faults in his simple plan, he stealthily entered the room and saw the cocoon twitch. Deciding it was a pure coincidence, he continues closing in on Calamity. It wasn’t a coincidence. Having taken only a few steps, he was greeted by a black spike. Unprepared, he fails to dodge properly and falls to the ground. Refocusing his vision, he saw something unbelievable. It was staring at him. Surrounded by countless tentacles, the cocoon stared at him with its hideous eyes. Acknowledging that it had seen through his lurk skill, Wost quickly activates ‘Mirage Lv. 1’, making himself disappear.
Having lost the element of surprise, Wost began darting around, killing everything he could. Under the illusory effect of ‘Mirage Lv. 1’, none of his victims saw him. Terrified by the situation, Ari is unable to help as her siblings die one after another. Turning around, she looks to Calamity helplessly, its eyes moving wildly. They then stare directly at her as various tentacles sprout from Calamity. Ari is confused; none of her power or experience matters. How could she fight an invisible enemy? She couldn’t, but Calamity would. Launching its tentacles past Ari, they strike the air, drawing blood.
“T-the air is bleeding? How… that, that isn’t possible,” thought Ari before realising what’s truly happening. It wasn’t the air bleeding but rather their enemy. She finally figured out how to fight. Running along Calamity’s tentacles, she aimed for where they aimed, eventually managing to land a blow. Elated, she is finally becoming useful; her guard relaxes, unaware that Wost was aiming for her. Ari saw a tentacle rushing for her, but unlike before, she didn’t doubt her friend. Entrusting her life to Calamity, the tentacle passes her, deflecting Wost’s fatal blow. In the other’s opinion, she was crazy to trust a monster, but she trusted nevertheless.
“How is that thing seeing me? Does it have special senses?” wonders Wost while narrowly avoiding Ari’s attack. Wost desperately tried to close in on Calamity but couldn’t get past its tentacles. Fully understanding he is fighting a losing battle, the option of retreat comes to mind. Calamity hadn’t moved during the battle, so if he got out of range, he’d survive. Acting on this hopeful idea, he bolted for the exit while dodging successive attacks. He had forgotten an important variable, the defiant. Blocking his exit with her body was the third defiant Aila. Slashing widely, Aila aimed for where Calamity pointed, managing to hit Wost. Being sent flying back by the attack, Wost scrambles to recover, but doesn’t make it in time.
Streams of crimson flow freely before falling, one by one. On the ground, a puddle forms, reflecting the horrific sight of a wolf skewered by a vile tentacle. Ripples dance upon the surface as more tentacles pierce the wolf, creating several more puddles of blood. Surrounding this spectacle lay countless ants, only some of which still drew breath. Bearing closest witness to this was not Calamity, but rather Ari. Looking around, she saw the corpses of her siblings and enemies. It scared her; she hated the sight. Slowly turning, she stares at the scariest being in the room, Calamity. All happiness and hope had left the princesses’ eyes, replaced by sadness and desperation.
“Calamity, end this war… I don’t want any more of my sisters to die,” sorrowfully chirps Ari as she is watched by countless eyes. Systematically, eyes began to shut and melt into the flesh cocoon. Then came a giant clawed hand, covered in countless black scales, that grabbed Wost’s corpse. Emerging from its cocoon came Calamity, covered in sinister scales and supporting terrifying tentacles. Calamity’s power has increased, and two things have changed. All his eyes, not just those ingrained in its antlered head, had turned a deep red. Additionally, two large black wings lined with sharp exoskeleton sprouted from its back. Various tentacles lined with pulsing muscles wrap around Ari, lifting her onto Calamity’s back. Unknown to Ari, Calamity had stored Wost’s corpse in its empty stomach to absorb later.
“K-k-k-k-kill… enemies?” growls Calamity crudely mimicking ant chirps. Silently collapsing down, Ari grips onto Calamity, beginning to leak pheromones.
“Please, please kill… please get revenge for my sisters,” begs Ari, prompting Calamity to begin bolting out of the nest. Through countless tunnels it ran wildly, shifting the earth and producing deafening echoes. Bursting out of the hole made by Grant, Calamity let out a horrifying roar, attracting the attention of Scrowl, whose claws pinned Queen Aritsu.
Observing the grotesque monster emerging from the ant hill, Scrowl’s eyes overflow with fury. Returning his sentiment, Calamity released a horrifying war cry, produced from a mixture of ‘Howl’, ‘Screech’ and ‘Sound Manipulation’ of varying levels. Peeking from atop Calamity’s head, Ari sees the state of the battlefield. Thousands of her sisters lay dead, their corpses scattered and defiled. Looking upon the core reason for this war, she sees her mother, Queen Aritsu, under Scrowl’s foot.
“Calamity save my mother-” began screaming Ari before seeing her brutally crushed. Blood seeps out from the squashed corpse as Scrowl shakes his dirtied claws. Reflecting in Ari’s retina was the death of not only her mother, but also their colony. To her, this sight was dystopic, the worst possible event. Blood flowed from bodies staining the land, and sanity flowed from Ari, tainting her mind. Ari knew that with Queen Aritsu’s death, this colony of eviction ants would end. Ari would never become a Queen.
