“Of course it is! All powers beings have should be used otherwise why even have them!!” Obviously not convinced by Nyx logic, Rue finally broke the skin on their lip. Nyx, noticing their distress and fear or perhaps even hate for their abilities, started to think. This was too familiar for their comfort.
“It’s not as bad as it sounds. Promise! Besides you didn’t seem to mind getting rid of these humans with your other knife. Additionally, isn’t it better if there is no chance of you enemies coming back?” The cat tried to comfort Rue and every time they avoided eye contact with Nyx they float somewhere else to catch Rues eyes.
“That’s different…”
“Why?”
“I thought that… Well thinking about it now it’s dumb but I thought that Rose was someone else. Someone who I know so I might have…” Rue waved their hands around slightly trying to find the right words still mindful to not disturb the knight and seer besides them. “Overreacted.”
“You should-”
“And again, weren’t you the one who said I should harm humans shouldn’t you lecture me instead? I killed humans. I cut their threat.” Rue was losing their patience not understanding Nyx. Nothing they did made sense and they kept backtracking their statements. One second Rue wasn’t allowed to even look at other beings the wrong way and now they were supposed to completely erase their existence.
“It’s complicated. A hero shouldn’t harm anything but monsters but you aren’t a hero.” The cat tried to explain.
“That. Is. What. I. have. Been. Saying. So why do you keep insist that I play this role?” Rue started raising their voice again and their voice cracked at the last word.
“They cannot know of the mix-up. Also, this is my first time cotching and being a system to someone who isn’t a hero too.”
“Who can’t know…” Rues shoulders started tensing and they tried to build as much distance between them and that damn cat as possible. “What’s a ‘sastem’?”
“System.” Nyx corrects ignoring Rues first question.
“Who CARES!!!” Rue reaches forward but their hands met only air. Their abrupt movement send Cael to the floor causing a loud thud. Jumping backwards Rue curls up on their seat.
Miraculously Cael was still asleep.
Liora also hasn’t moved and neither has Mira. However, Aylin was staring directly at Rue. The kid swallowed the lump in their throat and smiled nervously.
“Sorry to wake you. There… was a bug- thing?” Even though it was supposed to be a sentence their voice went up at the end making it sound like a question instead.
“Were you also talking to this bug-thing or were you holding a conversation with yourself?” Rues heart skipped a beat and they forgot to breath. Letting out a high pitched laugh they wave their hand around as if they could physically slap the knowledge of what happened out of Aylins brain.
“What! No, I was just talking with myself. Nervous.” Aylins eyes harden before softening. They avoid eye contact for a second looking out the window instead.
“It must be scary. The prophesy has never been kind to the hero of the story after all.” Aylin was speaking in a surprisingly soft voice though she looked extremely awkward. While Rue had no clue what Aylin was babbling about they appreciated that she was trying to cheer them up.
“Yeah… What exactly did you hear?” Smooth Rue. They hope they didn’t come off too suspicious. Aylin decided to let it slide mistaking their terror for embarrassment.
“Not much. Only ‘who cares’. Do you want talk about that?” Rue lets out a quiet sigh in relief. Though to Aylin this action more looked like resignation. She felt bad for adding stress to Rue but at the same time the hero was a big puzzle which she felt too suspicious of to leave alone.
“No but thank you. I think I will try to get all the sleep I can.” Aylin nods stiffly once before getting a soft smile that looked almost like a smirk appear on their lips.
“That’s a cute plushy I didn’t know that you own one.” Rues brows furrow in confusion. Once their eyes look down, they realize that this whole time a soft little ball fur has been on their lap. It was none other than Nyx themselves apparently deciding that this was a better way to hide themselves than disappearing into the necklace.
“It’s fine I won’t tell anyone if you don’t want me to but it’s important that you act like a child while you still can. It’s already bad enough that you have to be the hero however that doesn’t mean that you have to act like an adult.” Rue opens their mouth quickly. “Don’t even think about lying about your age. I’m not blind.” They snap their mouth close. They weren’t going to make a comment on the comments about their age they pout.
“Night.” They mumble before closing their eyes and ignoring everything else.
“Good night. Sleep well, Rue.”
