Alien in the Basement Novel

Chapter Two - Part Two: Abby

Chapter Two - Part Two: Abby

Jan 30, 2026

Abby was ecstatic.

Finally, finally, she had managed to get her hands on a real actual alien!

This was it! This was what she had been waiting for practically her whole life. She could barely contain the excitement she felt, suppressing the urge to run around her room and flail her limbs in every direction. She could do that later, after she interrogated the alien that had somehow ended up in her basement. Right now, she needed to focus and get as much information as she could out of him before her sister finally came to her senses and started trying to call the cops again.

A small part of her, probably the part typically called “common sense”, realized that this guy could be lying to her. That it could all be some really elaborate and cruel prank done to make fun of her, but she had her doubts. Mostly because this would be a lot of effort for a prank, so she doesn’t feel like she could even be mad if it turned out to be one. Disappointed? Yes. Mad? Well, not when they clearly put in this much work to make her believe an alien had appeared in her basement, making sure there were no signs of a break in happening at all. No, if someone had managed to pull off a prank this impressive, she would be more likely to ask them how on earth they did it than to yell at them.

All that to mean, she truly didn’t believe it was likely to be a prank. No, she firmly believed that this guy really was a genuine alien from outer space. She was very confident in this belief for one very simple reason: No other explanation would make sense as to how exactly he got into their house. There were absolutely no signs of a break in anywhere, the noise was heard only from the basement and there was no sign of any forced entry down there. The only things amiss were the boxes he was laying on and the person in question. She had also taken the time while he was still unconscious to check their security cameras, and there was no sign of anyone even walking close to their house at, before, or even after the time they heard the noise. The only anomaly there had been a strange moment of static at the exact moment Meg and her had heard the crash, which only served to further convince her that this guy was an alien.

So yeah, she was way more likely to believe him when he confirmed his alien status. Of course, she was going to try and get more concrete evidence before she celebrated too much. After all, there was still a chance (however small that chance might be) that there was some other explanation for how he got in their basement that didn’t involve him being an alien.

“Alright! Let’s get started.” Abby announced to her audience of two, setting down her projector on the table and connecting it to her laptop.

“One second, um, can you please untie me first?” The alien spoke up, staring at her from where he was still tied to one of their dining room chairs. “It just looks like you’re about to do some kind of presentation and well, I think I’d be much more comfortable during it if I wasn’t tied to a chair.”

Abby hummed, thinking it over. It’s true that he did look uncomfortable tied up, and she was going to be talking for a while most likely. Besides, he hadn’t even actually shown any signs of being a threat the entire time.

“Absolutely not.” Meg said firmly the moment Abby started moving towards their alien guest. Her grip on the bat had tightened even more the moment he had opened his mouth to request being released, and her face had set into a stony glare directed entirely at him.

“Did something happen while I was gone?” Abby asked, curious as to why her sister was suddenly so hostile, especially since she didn’t seem to believe that he was an alien.

“Abby,” Meg turned to look at her younger sister, clearly unhappy with something, though Abby couldn’t tell what exactly, “This is a man, who broke into our house, and is now claiming to be an alien. We don’t know what he wants, we don’t know what he’s capable of, and we don’t know why he’s here. And now you want to untie him, do you really think that is a good idea when we know so little about him? Please, I know you are smarter than this, stop letting your alien obsessed mind take control over your ability to think clearly about a potentially dangerous situation!”

Ah Abby thought, maybe I wasn’t taking this as seriously as I should’ve been. She took a step back away from the chair, understanding that while she personally didn’t think this guy was a threat, that conclusion wasn’t exactly based on any hard evidence. Meg was right, they didn’t know this guy or why he was here. It was safer to keep him restrained until they could confirm he wasn’t a danger to them or their house. Or our planet she added, realizing belatedly that if he was an alien, he could definitely be here to invade them.

“Sorry Meg, I wasn’t thinking about that stuff, I just got excited about meeting a real alien finally.” She apologized, turning back to her computer and absentmindedly fiddling around with it.

“It’s ok Abby, it’s just, I really wish you would think these things through a bit more before acting.” Meg relaxed a bit, relieved that her sister had seemingly finally come to her senses about this situation. Abby felt a bit bad that she hadn’t realized how stressed her sister had been feeling about this.

“A simple no would have sufficed.” They both turned back to their temporary prisoner, startled out of their moment. Meg began to glare again, agitated once more by their unwelcome guest.

“You should just be lucky we haven’t called the cops yet.” Meg spat at him. He simply rolled his eyes, which Abby found to be a strange way to react to a threat, but then again if he was an alien he might not even know what “cops” are.

“Oh dear, local law enforcement, how terrifying.” Ok, so he did know what cops are, still strange how he wasn’t worried in the slightest about potentially being arrested.

“Look- I think we all have maybe gotten ahead of ourselves here, why don’t we take a second to introduce ourselves!” Abby interrupted, placing herself between her sister and the alien. “My name is Abby, this is planet Earth, and we call ourselves humans!” She turned to face the alien, smile plastered across her face in what she hoped would be seen as welcoming and friendly.

“…I’m Meg, and I’ve broken many bones with this bat so don’t think I won’t use it on you if you so much as breath wrong” Abby turned to her sister with a frown.

“Can you please refrain from threatening him for two seconds?” Abby reprimanded, to which her sister at least had the decency to look away with a slightly ashamed facial expression.

“Nice to meet you two, I guess,” Their guest started, clearly unamused by the conversation, “My name is Seth, and I… ended up here on accident while fleeing from a… highly stressful confrontation. I am sorry if I caused you two any distress with my… appearance, but I genuinely have no interest in being here or talking to either of you. I just want to return to where I was, and go about my… life.”

Abby turned back to him, starting to feel excited again. She then walked over to her projector and turned it on, causing a display to appear on the wall. Displayed on the wall was the first slide of a presentation, and had the words 'WELCOME TO EARTH!' written in the center with lots of space themed clip art surrounding the text. Turning back to her audience, she grinned widely and said,

“Nice to meet you Seth, let me tell you about our lovely planet Earth!”
