Hellfire Hurricane, a union of the storm path strix and the fire path strix. It creates a vortex and by overclocking mana output with an ethereal form it sets the wind and water ablaze. Usually the combination of lightning and fire would cause an explosion similar to Firecracker. Though in this Hurricane it was fire and ice, ice cold enough to withstand flames that could burn through a night.
The two stayed in the vortex, maintaining their mana as the sounds of fractals cracking and breaking rang out around them.
Jasper began to run over the water again, doing his best to not trip over the waves. i have to stop her.
I Have to Stop Her.
They both remember how this ended. They killed the fractals and caused a tsunami that killed those closest to the coast. Everyone believed it was the fractals that did it but it was them, it was their stupid attempt at something that caused all of that pain.
I can't… I can't let that happen again. Before he got far on the water a fractal shot up in front of him. Lighting crackled around him and he got ready to kill it but just like before, Taru slammed into it, kicking into its neck and causing it to burst. The wind around him was still chaotic, but he looked down at him for a brief moment. "If you're rushing out like that, I assume not everything is well with that fire tornado."
"You… It's fine…" He tried to force his usual smile. "I'm just concerned about your… comrade… I mean the captains flames can be very hot-"
"You don't need to lie, I'm not stupid." He landed on the water with him. "Anyone can tell you're panicked. So what does that fire pillar mean?"
Jasper squinted, turning back to it. "Hellfire Hurricane… It's a move special to me and The Captain… we did it once and never again." He grit his teeth slightly. "Cause when they drop that, all the gunk from the dead fractals and the heavy pour of mana will create a tsunami, one that they won't be back in time to stop…"
"Okay. Then we'll stop it." Taru tied his hair up in a different way.
"Is that some sick joke? Do you landlocked weirdos get joyed at our misery-" He began but paused when he saw how serious the other was.
"Of course not, however taking things head-on has always been my first thought… even if its ass." He started walking. "Besides I believe in Miss Imani and your Captain, I think they'll make it back. We just have to buy them time."
"How… do you intend to do that with just wind?" He ran after him.
Taru jumped up onto the ship and Jasper followed. Ice began to swirl around him. "I intend to take a page from Miss Imani."
The swirling vortex the two had slowly began to collapse. Imani ascended towards Vyshima. "We have to be careful in letting this down alright… anymore mana and we'll mess up the ocean here…"
Vyshima closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. "Yes… But once we let go… It'll cause a massive wave…" Her appearance slowly began to go back to normal, her ethereal form wasn't one she could hold as long as someone like Imani.
Imani frowned, she knew why she was hesitant to let go of this spell, she took her hands and pulled her close. "Yes… but if we don't stop it'll take all we have to keep it going, and the wave that will cause will be too big for them to stop."
"Them…?" She frowned.
Imani smiled. "I trust Jasper has already informed everyone what's about to happen, as such, they probably already have a plan to stop it. We just have to trust them and do our best to get back and help them. However doing that starts with taking the first step and trusting them by letting go and getting that way."
Vyshima took a deep breath, squeezing her hands, the fire around her died out. "Alright."
Jemm and Yoshi both landed next to Taru. "Hey dude whats the plan why did you move up here-"
"Oh perfect, can you take over the wind for me." Taru turned to Jemm.
"Wh… I… I mean sure but-" He held his arms out and Taru did the same, the swirling wind transferring from him to Jemm who then put his hands together to keep it stable around himself. "Okay here's the plan, a wave is gonna come this way any moment now, me and this guy-"
"Jasper." Jasper cut in.
"-Jasper… are gonna keep it from hitting the shore. Yoshi use your plants as a sponge encase we fail, Jemm, unleash that wind too to try and blow as much of it back as you can." Taru continued.
"Wait wait if I do that won't you guys get pressed in the plants you might die!" Yoshi pulled at his arm.
"That's fine, if it happens it happens." He sighed, "We don't have time to debate that right now, we have to reduce the impact it might have on the coast."
Jemm and Yoshi both traded looks before Yoshi sighed. "I'll make plants in the water and on the coast to try and slow rushing water, I'll also reinforce buildings and try to get others to higher ground with the crew."
"I'll stay here and if the water gets too close I'll use the wind to try and push it back so the plants can be effective." Jemm added.
Taru nodded. "Then the rest us up to us two." He turned towards the swirling vortex which slowly began to fall.
Taru and Jasper both jumped off the ship and dashed across the water, ice began to swirl around Taru while water picked up around Jasper. Taru slid to a stop and dashed into the wave, ice exploded across it, freezing over a big area of the wave in front of him. He continued to push mana into the ice to spread it over the wave. Jasper on the other hand pressed his hands into the water, trying to force it back into itself.
Both of them were still being pushed back by the wave, it really wasn't enough. The sound of ice cracking and being replaced and Jasper straining against the waters crashing were the only noises between the two.
The ice broke and water slammed into Taru, and Jasper broke his concentration for just a second, turning to check on the other, which caused the water to slam into him as well. He stayed above water however, his strix allowed him to. Taru did not, he had fallen under. Taru flailed for a moment, before he closed his eyes, pushing himself back up with the wind. Jasper grabbed him and pulled him up and both stood. "This isn't working… all we're doing is slowing it…" Jasper put his hands up.
Taru shook his head to get the water off of him. "That's all we can do, you didn't expect us to fully stop it did you?" Ice began to swirl around him again and he rammed into the wave again, freezing as much of it as he could. Jasper too, resumed to push on the wave, but it again broke past them and sent the two back. Jasper grabbed onto Taru to keep him from sinking under but it only dragged him along as the two tumbled back.
Jemm was still far off, watching the two as they continued to get push back by wave after wave. Worse yet it wasn't even shrinking, no matter how many times they threw themselves at that wall of a tsunami it didn't get any smaller.
Jemm took a deep breath and continued to pull the wind in. Alright, he said if they failed he was supposed to use this, but they weren't getting any closer to succeeding either… so surely those can still mean the same thing. He can't stand by and wait for the two of them to get pinned or for this to get any worse. He can't walk on water but he should try to do something before it gets too late…
Taru slammed himself against the wave again and Jasper did the same, they were both waring down quickly. Taru had a thought to use his ethereal form but it wasn't useful for channeling ice… still… he didn't want to risk them getting too close to the shore. If it came to it he may have to.
The wind picked up behind them and began to hold the wave where it was. "I… is this… help… ing…?" Jemm strained. Taru looked up, his eyes widening slightly. "Hey I said to wait for us to-"
"You… said your… self… we… are out… of time…"
That he did… Taru sighed, he's gonna have to use this moment to do something about the wave. Ice began to swirl around him, so much so that it was beginning to prick his skin.
I can overload my mana, just enough to not condense it, and freeze half of this… it'll drain me but that's fine. I'll use the wind to spread it.
He took a deep breath… and snow began to fall. However that was not him.
Between them, Imani landed. As her foot touched the water ice spread across the surface instantly. she put her hand out and frost began to grip the wave. "Captain!" She called.
From above, fire came shooting down, splitting out the ice casing she created, steam poured out as the fire tore through. It then built up as steam and water continued to pour through the cracks, until it all burst out.
Imani raised her staff. "Taru with me quickly."
Taru quickly joined her by raising his hands and creating ice around him, both quickly freezing any water that escaped while Jasper tried to redirect anything back towards the fire. Vyshima continued to burn as much of the water and ice as she could before she finally burned out.
Imani stopped freezing the water and flew in, releasing her form and catching Vyshima. Jemm let go of the winds and Taru caught him though they both would have fallen into the water if Jasper hadn't gotten them both. However the waves claimed them all as they over took all of the ice.
Thankfully, much smaller than they had been when they started. They all found themselves pressed up against soft moss and bark, though it wasn't the side of a ship that they were pressed up against, but one of the breaks Yoshi set up. Yoshi made a small bridge between the breaks, carefully walking between them and looking over the edge, "They're all alive… Hey! Over here! I need some help!" She called before reaching down and beginning to try, and failing, to pull one of them out of the water.
A faint singing filled the space as Taru woke up, in his vision… he saw purple hair with pink ends… her eyes were closed… but she had beautiful lashes… she was singing so beautifully… the room was so dim so he could only make out that her hair was deep purple and her ends were light…
mom…?He couldn't move… Was it that he couldn't move or that he didn't want to? No it can't be her, it can't be it can't be it can't be it can't it can't they were in Sunrise they were with those pirates nothing ever indicated she came here why would she suddenly show up?? They had been in the water trying to hold back a wave and…
"You're awake now… Good… Everyone was worried you may have used too much mana again…" It was Jullietta… that's not how his mom sounds. Despite feeling relief.
He still did feel disappointed. Of course it wasn't her. That would be foolish to think so. Julliette was much lighter, and her horns are purple, not to mention her hair is shorter and her irises are shaped like moons, not stars.
"Are you feeling alright? You don't look well… Is it my singing?" She tilted her head.
That song does sound familiar…
"It's fine… Your song is very lovely…" He whispered.
Jullietta smiled. She seemed… different some how. "Your eyes are like mine… I've never met another elf like you."
He furrowed his brow, she said that before too… but it seemed like one of her weird one off things. "What do you mean?"
"I'm not exactly sure… but something about the way your eyes are is odd, odd like mine." She pointed at his face. "However yours have no shape, I have vague memory of others with pretty shapes, halos, moons, planets, gems, stars… but yours are just blank… like they have yet to find their purpose."
He blinked. What…?
"Stars… and planets?" He mumbled. "Others… with eyes like mine?"
"Yes… white eyes, everyone else their eyes are normal, but ours seem… blind." She then resumed singing…
He wanted to question her more… but someone else entered the room. Jasper. "You're awake… thank the Stars…" He walked over.
Taru slowly sat up and Jasper helped him. "Where is everyone else…"
"Yoshi is helping the rest of the crew with clean up… The captain and Miss Imani are both resting… and your friend overused his path, so they're helping him get his mana back in good levels."
"Assistant… and that was my fault… I shouldn't have put such a task on him. I should go-" Taru was about to get up but Jasper stopped him. "-You should stay put, you also overused your mana."
"I feel fine…" He squinted.
"Jullie has been giving you some of hers, besides I woke up before you and you were mumbling on and on about finding someone and letting people down, I was convinced you were possessed or something."
Well that's embarrassing.
"I… See." He laid back.
Jasper stood. "You guys… helped. So don't worry. You can rest until the Festival." He turned to leave.
So it was going to resume after all… that's good.
