We were able to move on from the bad period we had. I was still upset with how he treated me during that time. We addressed a lot of it during a session with his therapist. That was the first and last time he ever did something like that. Mathew never acted like that ever again. By the end of the season Mathew again blew up and was getting mainstream attention too. The school told him he no longer had to play football either and the scholarship would stay the same. They didn’t want to risk him getting hurt when he had become their star player. I went to most of his home games. They were just as full but I could talk to him from the sideline. He was one of the openly gay college students but it didn’t really get that much attention because we didn’t post pictures together. Other than to our personal accounts. He hasn’t made a post since his graduation post from highschool. School life stayed the same for the most part, he stopped parting for a while. At the end of the season we went out but he doesn’t drink excessively like before.
Over the summer it passed that college athletes could do sponsorship deals. I convinced him to open a public account. I started posting Mathew’s videos online. I ran the account for him posting his practice videos, some game highlights. It wasn’t huge but he gained a lot of followers to get sports brands and energy drinks attention. His money worries he used to have could have been erased if this had been available all along. He said he wanted to buy us a house with what his parents set aside for him. We don’t know where yet though. I tried to get him to do more stuff for his account but he didn’t want to. We stuck to just posting his atheistic stuff and working out.
His last year he got way more attention from mainstream media because he was getting scouted by NBA teams. With the rise in fame came a more haters. The homophobe trolls still didn’t make as much noise but they were there. I think it would get more attention if they were pictures of us everywhere. The only pictures available to the public are just pictures of us together at his games. Sometimes trophy pictures and other stuff of that kind. If they looked hard enough, probably in the background of some random person's picture at a party.
Both our parents came down when he graduated. We celebrated him and they tried getting us to move back home. Mathew signed a contract with a NBA team from San Francisco so we would probably end up moving to California. We sold our stuff and went back home before moving to Cali so Mathew could start his practice for the season.
