...
Zaire woke up later than his usual time because he didn't have to go to work anymore. The house was quiet... very quiet, save for the soft pattering of rain outside. His sock-covered feet padded down the hallway to Destiny's bedroom to see if she was already gone and she was. She could have at least woken me up to make her lunch for work. He thought to himself with a sigh but he was also grateful because he absolutely needed that sleep... it felt refreshing. He sighed as he made Destiny's bed quickly before getting started on his day.
Zaire didn't enjoy sitting still for long because it made him think and thinking a lot was not something that he enjoyed, he preferred being too busy so he would not have to think about his problems. Sitting still also made him weirdly dizzy and anxious, it might have been the side effects of the medication that he was taking. He took a shower, cleaned the house, fed Doll before eating then decided to catch up on some school work. He was working on getting his undergrad degree in business administration... he didn't like it but he was just doing it because it was what his whole family did as well. His parents went through a lot to make sure that no one find out about him being an omega so he could have better education and job opportunities. Omegas were not considered for most office jobs or most jobs in general because of their inferior genes and most employers were not willing to be flexible when it came to heat periods. That and the fact that his family has had a long line of only betas before him and him being an omega was a rather unpleasant surprise. Betas were the second most desirable second gender after alphas.
The classification or ranking system for secondary genders was a very important decider for each person's standing in society. The first class was dominant alphas: business owners, generational wealth and all the crime that you could think of- that they can easily get away with on a random Wednesday. Betas: there was no further classification for betas... no dominant or recessive but they were well respected because they were "convenient". No heats, no pheromones and just an overall easy group to work with. Recessive alphas: regardless of being alphas... they were a little looked down on because they were mostly submissive, which was not a very desirable characteristic for alphas. Alphas are meant to be dominant. Dominant omegas are mostly desirable for carrying healthy alpha babies and their beauty along with their pheromones were strikingly lovable, then at the bottom of the litter was recessive omegas... weak pheromone scents, may or not be able to carry babies, very weak against alpha pheromones and that was unfortunately what Zaire was. A recessive omega.
He had been on suppressants since he was fifteen years old and he honestly wasn't even sure what being an omega felt like. His secondary gender presented when he was fourteen, he had one heat before his father decided to get him suppressants, side effects be damned- his father didn't care. Injection suppressants that required him to take them once every two weeks. They would sometimes make him sick but he would choose them over a heat... his first heat wasn't exactly fun either. His suppressants sometimes failed to completely stop his heat but it would just feel like a really bad headache or he would feel a little sluggish but his heat wouldn't fully hit. Their parents were now dead but he was already in too deep with the "beta persona" he couldn't just drop it. Destiny wanted him to because she was scared for his health but he just couldn't. He also wanted to but he was too afraid... like his parents would rise from the dead and punish him for it.
It had been a week of lazing around the house, while Destiny was at work or out with her friends. On Friday night, she had offered Zaire to come along with her, her boyfriend and her friends to some club but he declined, saying something about schoolwork... which was true but now that he was finished with it, he was watching a movie while Doll sat at his feet. Zaire hadn't noticed just how much time had passed till he heard a noise downstairs, Destiny and friends tumbling inside the house, some of them falling, some of them laughing and Zaire just knew that they were crazy drunk. He paid them no mind as he kept on watching his movie before his bedroom door swung open and Chantel fell inside.
Zaire chuckled as he got up and came to help her up, making her take a seat on the edge of his bed. It had obviously been a long night seeing how she had a single shoe on, her lace was lifting a little and she was missing both her lashes. Chantel sat up straight trying to pretend to be sober as she smiled, "Hey, Zaire. I hope I didn't disturb you."
"No, you didn't. Would you like some water?"
She shook her head as she reached into her bag, "Destiny told me that you quit your job. Good... I hated Gina's big-headed ass. She also told me that even though you haven't told her, she knows you are probably looking for a job again because you just can't sit still." She rambled with a chuckle as she pulled out a very crumbled paper and tossed her purse on the floor. "I found this flyer at that club... it was amazing. They are looking for servers and betas get first picks. They also hire omegas and some alphas but you are a beta, I'm positive that you will get it." She explained trying to straighten out the paper but was embarrassingly failing.
"Let me." Zaire said softly as he took the paper and opened it. Club Obsidian... he read the clubs name before gently placing the flyer on his desk. "Thank you, Chantel."
She blushed a little before she sighed. "I know alphas and betas are like a doomed pairing because we can't have children and I can't have children because I'm recessive, and also can't get you pregnant because you are a beta but I would take care of you. You wouldn't even have to finish your degree. I might not be as rich as a dominant alpha and just because I'm a recessive alpha, that doesn't mean that I'm submissive... I can totally take care of you."
"We have been over this before, Chantel. I just like men more... not that I like alphas, I like men." He was attracted to alphas, very much so but that was the omega in him and couldn't just say he was attracted to alpha men because that would be weird for a beta. Betas normally got into heterosexual relationships with other betas because that was how they could make families. It was already weird enough that he was a gay beta. He chuckled as he watched her pout... yeah, she's very drunk. He thought before Destiny walked in.
"Stop bothering my brother, Chantel." Destiny slurred drunkenly as she pulled Zaire into a hug, which he returned. "Did we wake you up?"
"No, I was going to go to sleep after the movie." Zaire said relaxing into his sister's arms because she wasn't letting go.
Destiny happily hummed, "My lovely little brother. You should have really came with us... it was really fun out there. Next time, we are taking you with us and you cannot say no." Zaire nodded because he knew that she was not joking.
"Baby?" A voice called softly before Ty peeked inside the room and Destiny finally let go of Zaire. Ty was Destiny's beta boyfriend and they had been together for over a year already. "Zaire!" He greeted Zaire with a smile which Zaire returned. Ty was also drunk but he looked a little better than the other two.
"Hi, Ty."
"Let's go to bed, baby." Ty said as he pulled Destiny to him. "Good night, y'all." Destiny grabbed ahold of Chantel's arm pulling her along with them as they all said their good nights and shut Zaire's bedroom door. He went to go back to bed but he caught sight of that flyer again and sat at his desk to read it over before going on to the club's website.
"It seems pretty high class..." he whispered to himself. "... but I'm only there to work, so it shouldn't be a problem and I can just blend into the background. Maybe in my previous workplace I stuck out like a sore thumb because there weren't many of us working there. What do you think, Doll?" He turned to his half-asleep feline friend. "I agree." He nodded, pretending as if Doll just back him up. "There're also omegan workers here, so it must be a good environment..." he trailed off as he scrolled on the webpage seeing the pictures of the fancy establishment and information. "Mr. Black..." he read the owner's name and it made him shiver ... something felt almost familiar or was it fear but he sent his application either way.
