Ambiguous Attraction.

Chapter 3.

Chapter 3.

Feb 03, 2026

...

"You ready?" Destiny questioned as she started up the car and Zaire nodded, adjusting his glasses. He didn't feel like wearing any contacts today and on most days he would just choose to go out blind because he just didn't care but since he was starting a new environment, he needed to see everything. It had been a week since he applied for a job at Obsidian and he finally received a call just the previous day. They called him to come in , not to start work yet but to familiarise himself with the place. He was nervous but also excited because the lady that had called him was very nice... he had high hopes. He was secretly wishing that everything worked out and that he liked the work environment because he still was not entirely sure about actually working with his degree. "Are you nervous?"

"Yeah..." he breathed out. "I just hope that nothing unpleasant happens."

"You took your suppressants, right?" Zaire nodded before she spoke again, "Then you will be fine. There are omega's that work there as well, you should make friends... maybe if you start hanging around omegas you will finally be fine with being one too." Destiny suggested with a smile, though Zaire was feeling reluctant to agree. "Even if you don't want to live as one... at least, make friends. You have never been around omegas before you might be more comfortable making friends with them since you don't like being around alphas or betas much."

Zaire nodded before mumbling, "I will think about it."

"Great!"

Over twenty minutes later, Zaire was entering the building with a big Club Obsidian sign before being greeted by two very big security guards standing in what seemed to be the lobby. Both obviously alphas but Zaire couldn't catch their scents, they might have been put on suppressants during working hours. One of them, a woman held out her hand to Zaire and he finally remembered that he needed a pass to go inside. He pulled out his phone to show the woman the entry pass he was emailed yesterday and she started speaking into her earpiece, "Hera, one of the new staff is here." She stood silent for a minute before turning to Zaire and giving him his phone back. "You may go on inside."

"Oh...okay. Thank you." He muttered as he walked in through a second pair of doors and was met with the Club Obsidian that he saw on the website pictures. Two bars, a dance floor, a stage, booths and tables. He looked up at the high ceilings in astonishment... It's really pretty. He thought as his eyes scanned the room. A long staircase leading on to the second floor, hanging lights, minimal but just perfect decorations all around. The rest of the new hires must have been running late because he seemed like he was the only one there. He was startled out of his curiosity by a door shutting beyond one of the bars before a tall woman stepped out. She had long red braids, a black suit on: without the jacket and some black heels. She was gorgeous... Like very gorgeous. She walked up to Zaire before holding her hand out with a smile and he shook it.

"You must be Zaire Smith. Beta, right?"

Zaire nodded as he let go of her hand, "How did you know?" He asked. He figured there must have been other people who applied. The job advertisement didn't exactly specify how many people were needed.

She chuckled. Her voice was steady and rich... She must be an alpha or at least a beta. He thought. "You are the only hire, darling and I was the one who called yesterday. I'm Hera Rock. A beta. Let us step into my office." She introduced herself before she walked ahead, Zaire following closely behind her. She was taller than him and the heels were definitely making it worser. She held the door open for Zaire as he stepped inside the cozy room. It was warm and whatever fragrance she was wearing was heavenly, he settled down as she rummaged through a cabinet, pulling out a black duffel bag before she came to sit opposite Zaire and placed the mysterious bag on the table. "These are your uniforms, you get four. Monday and Wednesday; it's the black and white, Tuesday and Thursday it's the black. You normally won't work Fridays and the weekends. Your staff pass is also inside." She explained as she opened her laptop. Zaire was making mental notes on everything she was saying but was a little panicky, afraid that he will forget. "You are allowed to take notes on the uniform thing."

"Thank you." He pulled out his phone and started writing down on his notes app.

"You may be called in to work sometimes on shifts you are not working because we have a number of omega and alpha workers who get their heat and rut periods suddenly but we try to keep record of those periods so that it is not too inconvenient or sudden for you to cover for them." Zaire nodded as he wrote that down as well. "You will be paid for that extra work. On your application, it says you would prefer to work day shifts ..." she trailed off, reading from her laptop.

"Yes, ma'am. I don't have a car for me to work late." Zaire explained.

"We do offer staff transportation. Since we have omegas that work nights here. You will be fine. The shifts normally shuffle around after a month or two so, the night shifters will work day and day shifters work nights... you will be notified every time that happens."

Zaire nodded, a small shocked look on his face. "But isn't staff transportation a big ask... I mean, you are already paying me?"

She chuckled before leaning in with a small smile on her face, "Leo, the owner of this place has very deep pockets... if you get a chance, abuse it and he is a considerate person. Not nice, just considerate." She said as she finally closed her laptop. "Let me show you around." She offered as she stood up and Zaire quickly put his phone away and took the duffel bag. "You start working tomorrow at 9am. Don't be late." Zaire reached for his phone again while they walked and quickly wrote that down. He hadn't even noticed that Hera stopped until he bumped into her back.

"Oh, I am so sorry. I wasn't looking..." he said quickly as he put his phone away... his nerves making him panic.

Hera chuckled, "It's not a problem. Relax. It was my fault for suddenly stopping really."

"Who's that?" A deep voice startled Zaire because of the amount of alpha aura that was dripping from it and he hadn't even seen the owner. Hera stepped aside to allow Zaire into the man's view.

"This is the new hire that I told you about... Zaire Smith. Zaire, this is Leo." Hera said as she pulled Zaire a little closer so that he could shake Leo's hand.

"It's kind of rude to leave me hanging." Leo teased as he still held his hand out.

"I'm s-sorry..." Zaire stammered out as he shyly shook Leo's hand and finally lifted his eyes to the man. "My name is Zaire... I didn't mean to be rude." Zaire could not help but stare. He had never met a dominant alpha before and had only seen them in passing but he didn't expect Leo to look so entrancing. Tall, a lean-ish muscular frame, handsome and intimidating. The man's hands had big rings adorning them and jewellery on his wrist, neck and studded ears... not too overwhelming, just the perfect amount of flashy. He wore black slacks, a black shirt with the top button open and a black long coat. His tattoos were peeking out from the top of his shirt and back of his hand. His dark skin glowed under the club's lighting also accentuating his greyish eyes.

"Nice to meet you, Zaire... I would let you ogle some more but I do have to get to my work." He smiled, showing his gold grills which Zaire thought were so cool.

Zaire dropped Leo's hand like it was hot. He was feeling very embarrassed and couldn't bring himself to lift his eyes anymore as he shuffled closer to Hera, silently praying that they could just keep walking. "I was just showing him around. He's starting tomorrow. I'll come up and see you in your office soon." Leo nodded before giving Zaire one last glance then walked away. "Let's keep moving." Hera strode down the room and Zaire tried to keep up with her long legs and if he missed anything she said, he would pray it wasn't important because he was a little intimidated by her and couldn't bring himself to ask her to repeat herself.

I'll just get it along the way. He thought as he held his uniform bag tighter.

Zaire tried to fight it.

He tried to fight the burning attraction he felt towards Leo... thinking it was nothing but pure admiration towards an alpha that had shown him kindness, but now he couldn't. Leo was trouble and Zaire couldn't afford trouble, hiding the fact that he was an omega was already hard enough. Zaire was alone and wanted to keep it that way but that was hard because of the alpha that kept seeking his company. And, with the question of whether or not they will ever be anything more, things start to get difficult to navigate between them.
