"You said he's a beta, correct?" Leo asked as he stood with Hera on the second floor of the club watching the first floor. Zaire had begun working and was moving around the tables, wiping them, serving drinks and clearing them out once the customers were finished. It wasn't very busy... it never was during the day. Obsidian was Club Obsidian when the sun came down... right now only about eight tables were occupied by families, friends and couples enjoying what the menu had to offer from food to drinks.
"Uh-huh. Trust me, I double checked. Especially since he froze like a deer in headlights when he saw you for the first time. He might just be shy." Hera reasoned with a shrug. "I like him."
"You like anyone who seems remotely submissive. How many omegas and gullible betas have you flirted with in here again?"
"That's not important." She said in a sing-song tone as she leaned over the railing to watch Zaire's movements. Leo could practically see her tail wagging in excitement at having a new face around. "He's cute."
Leo couldn't deny that but he had a bad feeling about the man, and his gut was never wrong. Something about him felt unsettling like an unknown feeling was clawing under the alpha's skin. "Keep an eye on him." Leo said before he walked back into his office. He sank into his comfortable office chair as he stared at the wall on the opposite end of his spacious office. The mirror that sat occupying most of the wall wasn't there to reflect anything- it only did that through the human eye but to Leo it was a window he used to watch Akuma, his pet Doberman while he worked and sometimes it was a door. Akuma was his longest companion and was a rather feral demon dog but the alpha liked him and decided to bring him to live with him. His father insisted that he guard Akuma closely in order to avoid any unwanted human attention. From the mirror, Leo could see Akuma lying on the alpha's bed, his red eyes closed as he napped. His essence was thinning because of how long they had been away from their home and it bothered Leo but he couldn't just up and leave.
"We will go back soon... just hold on a little longer." Leo whispered more to himself before he leaned back into his chair. Just a few more months. He thought.
Zaire had just served a few tables some expensive dishes and drinks before he slipped into the back room to take his break. His supervisor had let him take his break first while she worked and he was grateful because he was starting to feel really hungry. "You are doing great out there." One of his colleagues; Quan... Zaire heard his name was, said as he sat next to him.
"Thank you... You also make really pretty drinks." Zaire also complimented Quan's bartending skills. He kept his eyes low focusing on the sandwich Destiny made him for his lunch.
Quan tilted his head to the side with a small smirk. "We never got properly introduced, I'm Quan."
"Zaire." He replied simply.
"You don't seem like you are all that interested in me sitting with you." Quan said feigning being hurt.
Zaire quickly shook his head, feeling a little bad, "It's not a problem, I promise. I'm just not really good at socializing but... you can stay."
"Then, I will." Quan chuckled as he took a sip of his coffee and leaned back on the small couch while Zaire ate quietly. "How are you enjoying your first day?"
Zaire took a glance at Quan's face before answering, "I like it. People don't pay much attention to you while you work... it's nice." Quan hummed with a nod and Zaire asked, "I thought there would be more omegas that work here?" He asked because he had only come across two omegas exiting the changing rooms but hadn't seen them all day after.
"Omegas work upstairs and most prefer to work nights. Apparently the tips are crazy good up there when the sun sets." Quan explained turning to Zaire with a curious smile. "Why do you ask? You fancy yourself an omega?"
"N-no... it's not that!" Zaire answered with his cheeks warming up. "It was just a question."
Cute. Quan thought. "I'm relieved." Zaire blinked in confusion before Quan stood up, chucking his coffee cup into the bin. "Do you smoke?" Zaire shook his head as Quan turned to another door that led outside. "I'm going to smoke. Eat... lunch will end soon."
Once he stepped out, Zaire was left alone as he kept eating. Maybe Quan wants to be friends? He thought and was a little happy because he didn't have friends other than Destiny's friends. He was homeschooled, he was doing an online course for his degree and his previous job didn't really make him excited to socialise. He walked back out a minute before his lunch ended to join his supervisor, Leah who was sorting the menus and discreetly waiting for anyone of the customers who needed her to call. As he worked, he would sometimes see Hera passing and she would wave at him or wink and he would quickly look away with a blush. She seemed to enjoy watching him fidget every time before she went into her office.
Hera disappeared to the second floor every now and again... probably to see Leo. He wasn't given a tour of the second floor and so he figured that was none of his business but he was a little curious. Leo hadn't come down even once. Zaire saw him watching over the railing earlier but then he disappeared afterwards. Something about that mysterious alpha made him nervous but curious all at the same time. Zaire thought that it must have been because Leo was the first dominant alpha he had ever met. That has to be why.
