Nyx stays quiet for a second looking into the air as if they were reading something.

“My purpose is to help the hero seal the sleeping one. One way that I do this is to make sure that the hero awakens their powers but no memories from their previous life.” Rue frowns since this only gave them more questions and hardly any answers.

“That’s all nice and shit but what does that have to do with me, you amnesic cat, I am not the hero.” Rue speaks slowly as if Nyx was senile. The cat huffs in offense and mumbles a ‘not a cat’ before focusing back on the rest of the statement.

“That’s exactly the problem as we have discussed thousands of times now you are not the hero. This is getting quite tiring actually! Anyways that’s the problem once again. With my help the hero was supposed to unlock their powers but now due to me being bonded to you I have instead helped you unlock the powers of your previous life.” Rue titls their head and leans forward to be closer to Nyx.

“Previous life? I had a previous life? Not only that but one with such weird powers.” Rue was smiling slightly. “That’s so cool. So, is everyone a reincarnation? I mean it would be a coincidence if me and e- the hero were the only reincarnations.” Rue acts completely oblivious to their slip up when Nyx raised an eyebrow. The cat sighs already done with the kids’ shenanigans.

“It’s rarer than you think!!! But it doesn’t really matter. Most people get from being reborn are vague memories which are usually not very helpful and have no powers! Those are locked tightly in their soul and kept contained by some of their live threats. But never mind that. We have to find out who you are the reincarnation of to find out what powers you have.” Nyx explains and starts to circle Rue and the tree as if they could find out who Rue was in a previous life by simply looking long enough.

“Can’t you just give me my memories.” Rue was trying to follow Nyx constantly either moving their eyes or head to keep the cat in their field of vision.

“No, don’t you remember? I can only suppress your memories, not give them. Besides, mortals aren’t allowed those memories. You can know who you were previously but even if you get those memories that person is no longer you.” Rue gave up on tailing Nyx and leaned their head against the tree trunk instead.

“This is sooo complicated.” They whine quietly.

“Did you ever have a strange dream? Wanted to punch someone you never met?” The cat still didn’t stop making rounds around the tree and Rue.

“Right now, I want to punch you. Does that count?”

“NOPE!!! You already met me.” The cat loudly proclaimed.

“I did want to choke and punch you when we first met too but you were quite irritating.” Nyx finally stops and huffs in offense.

“Excuse you but I am a delight!” But they both suddenly frown.

“Do you think I knew you previously?”

“I doubt it. I would remember with powers like you. They never would have left you alone.” ‘They’. This is the second time that Nyx has mentioned these unnamed entities. Immediately the cats pupils turned into slits. It noticed the human’s interest.

Snap

Rue curses their luck when they hear a tree branch snapping. Praying that it was only an animal, Rue cautiously approached the place where the sound came from but not before getting their knife out. Approaching it they saw nothing.

Out of nowhere someone jumped towards Rue from behind. Spinning around they block a spear which was heading straight for them. Pushing it away Rue tries to gain more distance between them and their assailant.

The spear which has an amazonite imbedded in it and blue and green accents. Finally, Rue looks closer at the attacker who for a few seconds stopped their attack as if also seizing Rue up.

He has straight blond hair that reaches his shoulders and freckles. Obviously fancy clothes, a white button up, suit pants and a green suit vest which seems like a horrible combination to fight in, but he appears unbothered. He also has pink eyes that appear red in certain lights. Eli Evans.

Apparently losing his patience Eli advances forwards twirling his spear and just barely avoiding cutting Rue. He wasn’t aiming to kill not yet.

“Don’t you have something you should give me?” Eli asks rhetorically. Rue doesn’t immediately answer instead still trying to get away.

“What cat got your tongue? If you remember correctly you used to be quite the chatterbox.” Eli clicks their tongue in what Rue assumes is annoyance for some reason.

“Seems like you are doing quite well chatting up the entire forest yourself.” Rue throws their leg back kicking Eli away when they got too close and cutting a few of their strands.

“Give me the hero’s relic, Rue.” Eli demands while holding their hand out. Slowly Rue shakes their head. Can they ever catch a break? Seriously was there ever a point so far where Rue was talking to Nyx and did not get interrupted? And in what a short time frame too.
