The Prophet stayed on that mountain for days, meditating with the stone. In the silence, he heard its sobs shift — no longer heavy with terror, but soft with longing. “O Prophet,” the stone said, “I now weep not because I fear the Hellfire, but because I long to be near the Light of Allah’s face.”
The Prophet smiled. This was the path of the awliya (friends of Allah) — to begin with fear and end in love. “This is the way of sincere servants,” he said. “Fear awakens the soul, but love carries it to Allah.” He recalled a hadith qudsi: “My servant continues to draw near to Me with voluntary deeds until I love him…” The stone was no longer a symbol of dread, but of devotion. Even a stone, hardened by nature, could become a mirror to divine love when exposed to the light of the Qur’an.
In a valley tucked between ancient mountains, a Prophet of Allah SWT wandered in the silence of dawn. His heart was full of remembrance (dhikr), and the air echoed with unseen praise from creation. As he sat in solitude beneath a towering rock, he heard a faint sob — soft, trembling, like a child in prayer. He looked around and found no human soul. Then he noticed a small stone, resting in the mountain’s shadow, shivering as if in pain.
Surprised, the Prophet asked, “O stone, why do you weep?” By the will of Allah SWT, the stone answered, “I cry out of fear of Jahannam Hellfires, for I heard a verse that even the stones may fall for fear of Allah SWT (God).” The Prophet, moved by this miracle, wept too. For even a lifeless stone knew what many hearts had forgotten: the awe and terror of standing before the Almighty Creator.
