Royal Meat (Part 1: Thief's Meat)

Royal Meat (Part 1: Thief's Meat)

Feb 15, 2026

“Nothing like a fresh meaty steak from a farm animal.” Jo says as he serves up a freshly cooked well done Steak, you sit up as if you were sitting with your Boss. But it's just you and the bar. “So let's go back to a classic one…”

It was 670 of a cold winter. Harsh as always with no end, hungry is loud like the wind so tetons just rise. In a royal kitchen a cook paces alone. They are called Richard Hopps, the king's chef who's the best of the bunch. But even the best can't make gold out of thin air, and that is not the only thing that is getting thinner at this moment. For you see the king of the Red Clover kingdom in the middle of the land was losing patients for his cook, and the lack of a real meaty meal. Hopps knows too well that the king has a habit of sending those who displease him to a painful end, like the poor thief whose body is headless from the morning early. And that's when Hopps got a wicked and possibly a twisted idea. He sneaks into the dark of winter where light from a touch is blinded by snow, and slices off the leg of the headless thief's body. In Hopps mind, why let good meet go to was unless you wish to join the pile of bodies too. Hopps also knew enough to be sure not a soul would notice a missing leg or two. He cleaned the dead man's leg and chopped it into bits of cubes. And with enough seasoning broth. It was unable to be seen as human meat. He gold it pigs stew and served it to the royals of the hall, and the King, he loved it. But something changed in Hopp's heart after hearing the joy it brought the ruler and his family and noble allies. Not joy and not thankfulness, but a thrill. The thrill of getting away with an act that God would be sicken by, and Hopps wished for more. But now he didn’t just want some simple thief or drunker meat. No, he wanted very fine and classy meat. And the supply is sitting and fattening itself right in front of his very eyes. At night as the candle lights hushed and the cold winter was roaring outside. Hopps sat awake in the kitchen thinking of how to get a noble to the Head man's ax, without bringing eyes to his own blade. And just the same, who should be hitting the chopping block first out of the 7 of them. He knows the King is safe from his hot pot, but that only leaves 6 “Piggys” left. There is The General, The East wing and West wing Nobles, The Prince , The Fool and finally The Prince's wife / The Princess of the kingdom by the sea “Sea-Holly Kingdom”. So many to choose from and one wrong move and he will be meeting the same faith as tonight's dinner. But then something clicked in his head, why not the Fool. The King may love his jokes but not so much his son and daughter in law. The kingdom of Sea-Holly is a much grim place and the Fool does not show kind words to them. It would be easy like cutting fresh peppers from the garden bed, to make the King send the Fool to the ax very soon. All Hopps needs to do is plant that seed of worry in the King and Prince head that if the Princess of Sea-Holly is treated like a prop for humiliation that the thin relationship of the 2 kingdoms will lead to a full blown battle. And in winter where food is slim and the battlefield shows no mercy to the land, it would be the end of their rain. But how should Hopps get the Fool to risk his neck for a chuckle, maybe slip the poor man too much hard booze in his flask before his performance. And nobody would be the wiser. The only real problem he has now, is what vegetable would go well with a fool's arm.

Back in the bar Jo takes your clean plate, and heads to the back to clean it up. Jo tells you “ What a strange choice in meat don’t you think, I just think someone eating one kind is stranger than most food. But when there is little to no good meat left, I guess even your fellow man starts looking tasty with a side of gravy.” You give him a knowing look, He replies with “Oh you wish for more, I guess this tale still has more to tell, and we are just at the Appetizer.” Jo chuckles a bit and then heads to the kitchen for your next meal. But do you still have room for more?
