Souta woke up with a horrible, throbbing headache in a cart made of ebony, which effectively reflected the light seeping through the cracks between the boards. One of the considerably larger cracks in the ceiling shone light upon a little sliding window on back of the cart. Upon opening the window, Souta got his second blinding of the day. Once his eyes adjusted, Souta saw, through the bars on the window. a street that looked like it jumped straight out of one of those movies imitating olden times. Though it looked about ten times dirtier, what with the roads being covered in horse poo, and all the houses looked like people threw rotten tomatoes at them and the remains were never wiped off. Not to mention the smell! The sewers smelled even worse than the rancid horse apples, and there was an abundance of such smell wherever you went since all the toilets connected to a small river beside the road that was almost completely covered by bridges to peoples doors. The whole town seemed to be built upon a mountain's foot. The castle was built in the side of the mountain fairly high up for all to see, with a single winding path several miles long, up the foot of the mountain leading to an opening right below it. The horses carried them down this mountain at treacherous speeds. Souta saw several doors close as the cart passed by. Several times a bump made the cart fly several feet into the air. The ground suddenly became flat and the path smother. After several minutes the surroundings became wooded with stark black trees. It seemed
Iike the trees were soaking up the daylight. It became almost pitch black. After what felt like several hours the cart suddenly stopped. It was still pitch black and zero light spilled in as the cart door opened.
